RE: The Last Two Months Before Nuclear Armageddon

This from Jay Kuo

Quote:
Good morning, all. We are facing exactly the mirror side of what we were facing in 2016 if you think about it. We have a very narrow victory path that relies on knife’s edge wins in a few key states. Trump’s team is scouring for votes, and we are going to have to fight to keep each state in our column. They will demand recounts. They will challenge ballots. It will get nasty. But we will have to stand firm.

Where it looks like we stand (summarizing numbers from the election project and the NYT quickly—hope I get this right!)

NV: We lead slightly. No more ballots are left to count in Nevada except mail-ins. Those nearly certainly will only help us, as they have everywhere else.

AZ: This race has been called for us but counts will continue today.

WI: We lead and absentee ballots from Green Bay remain to be counted. This should help us.

That puts us at 255 E.C. Votes. Any of the below states puts us over 270:

GA: We trail but handicappers give us an edge of 0.4% once the ballots that remain uncounted from Fulton, DeKalb and other Dem strongholds are counted.

MI: We trail but most absentee ballots remain to be counted and will likely push us into the lead there. (Update: We likely will go into the lead later today based on how the absentee ballots are going our way.)

PA: We trail but well over a million and a half absentee ballots remain to be counted. This will take the longest but I don’t think we’ll wind up needing this state to carry us past 270.
And he's still screaming fraud, even though it was he who wanted absentee ballots thrown out

EDIT: MI has been called for Biden. It's a small margin, but larger than the margin by which Trump won last time.

Trump's response to the turning tide:

Quote:
Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!

wasn't complaining about that last time, was he?

Those aren't surprise ballot dumps, those are absentee ballot, perfectly legal, and a staple of the US electoral system.
Only someone with little to no knowledge of such a system would be complaining about it.

Out of interest where do you and everyone else stand on voting being compulsory?

I'm undecided.

I see the benefits of compulsory voting in that it would provide an accurate picture of where the country lies politically but I also believe in freedom of choice.

I'd err more towards it if it included a 'none of the above' option, but not 100% towards it.

I would love a none-of-the-above option, but I don't feel I should be forced to vote if I find every candidate doesn't deserve my vote.

I think if you had a none option you could then start to gauge how many people don't care versus how many people do not have the options they wish they had.

I believe Australia has compulsory voting and does have a none of the above option.

You could argue that compelling everyone to at least 'turn up' to vote (or online or by ballot if available) makes sure everyone is not complacent.

I suppose theoretically compulsory voting could be open to abuse, if for instance a movement were able to mobilise a disenfranchised group (bored young people?) to sabotage a campaign by deliberately voting for a fringe nutter - the BoatyMcBoatface conundrum if you will.

Voting should at least be as easy and frictionless as possible.

You could do that with non-compulsory voting, so that's not a major concern as far as I'm concerned....

Biden wins Wisconsin

Trump demands a recount.

Earlier today, Trump demanded all counting be stopped after it looked like he was winning.
