A couple of days ago, I was in British Heart Foundation charity shop, which is one of the more 'expensive' charity shops, and even it was selling dvds at 3 for a pound including numerous Bond double disc ultimate (ha!) editions. It reinforced that my dvds are now next to worthless. In fact, I should be charging them rent for my shelf space.
Fast forward a few years and it will be, Grandad, what are these? Why do you keep them?
I may as well have collected coal scuttles or poss tubs.
My house has become a museum!!
What to do??

charge entrance?
Our PS3 broke, but have PS4, it's not worth selling the PS3 games, as would get so little for them, so they'll either go on loft or sit on shelves with 100s of dvds, some of which are still in cellophane :(

For the last year, I’ve been listening to my old cassettes again after some twenty years. It’s been fun rediscovering some old, forgotten music.
You think DVDs are bad, I drop around £4 a week on average at Poundland on Blurays. They’re only £2 each, and it’s cheaper than renting. I get to see films I’d never have tried otherwise, and occasionally find some decent bargains.
But it does mean I live in a world of piles. God help me if there’s ever an earthquake.

I've upgraded most of my DVDs to Blu-ray, but there are some like TV shows or the odd movie that are not available in HD (or were recorded on video in SD), which I keep around.
It does feel a shame though, at least I won't be upgrading all my Blu-rays to 4K! Although I said that about my DVDs...
Lots of places don't sell CDs anymore but still sell vinyl, it outlasted them which is quite amazing. For reasons I don't get, some people seem to be interested in VHS again, the world is a strange place.

I know, I know......but 33p for Goldfinger double disc with booklet. It makes me want to weep!
I do also have a drawer full (and a box in the loft) of good quality stereo VHS tapes of mainly concerts and music docs taped from Sky on a high end Sony VCR. Most are on lovely BASF chrome 4 hour tapes.
Of course, the subject matter and much, much more is now free on YouTube.
Still at least my box of 80s and 90s Playboy magazines, also in the loft,a are appreciating nicely.
And yes, the Sony VCR and much more besides is up there too.
Just waiting for a new show called Crap in the Attic to begin.
i have at least 2 VCRs in the loft, and there's still one plugged in in the dining room! Can't remember last time it was used though.

I had boxes of dvd's in my mates loft, he just moved and moved them into the static caravan i bought this year, I havent been back since and am not 100% sure i will be able to get into said caravan :), but, and its a big but i do miss watching my old tv box sets of Ronnie Barker, fools and horses, Steptoe and Son etc when i get back. The hotel im at in the Channel Islands has its own cinema which i use more than the guests so have been picking up a few 4k movies as i can watch the blu-rays here.
My VCR has a hard disc and a DVD player in as well, only use it as a PVR now, and even then only for non iPlayer channels.
