Page 1 of Hospital Check-ups

You get to a time in your life when visits to the Doctor and to the Hospital become a more regular occurrence.  At lunchtime tomorrow, I start a 24-hour fast prior to having a Flexible Sygmoidoscopy (that`s like a budget version of a colonoscopy).  I have to fast and take two doses of some jollop to purge my insides so the decks are clean when they shove the camera up.

I am ready to climb the walls at the moment as I am nervous about the procedure and I am concerned about my old folks` wellbeing while I am out of action.

Just shoot me.

As you say when you get older you start worrying about your health especially if you get a scare.

I had that this year, re:- my pain the the ass abcess, and though I was ready to meet my maker, and would have been glad to, to get rid of the pain. It goes well beyond embarassment when that happens and in to the doctors I went. Took a while but back to normal now. Thank goodness.

Mark, it`s uncomfortable, embarrassing and a bit painful but it all passes very quickly.
The pain is caused by the equipment pushing air in front of it thereby giving you the feeling of wind pains but a little more intense as each push feels like cramp.

It doesn`t take long and once it`s over, it`s over and you`ll be fine. Those two sachets of (I`m guessing Picolax or similar) are far worse and seem to ake an age to actually start working then...erm... be sure to be near some "facilities" ;-)

Hopefully you`ll find the cause of whatever has initiated the referral, in my case we literally go blindly on....

Picolax is great stuff... we use to have a lad where i worked (20+ years ago), who would keep wandering into the staff area and eating all the chocolate biscuits that were there.

To teach him a lesson, we melted a bar of chocolate and emptied a couple of sachets of Picolax into the mixture, then we covered some biscuits with the fresh chocolate mix.

Result was... he never came in pinching the chocolate biscuits again!

Thank you everybody for your kind thoughts.  I`m back safely in one piece fighting fit and fit to fight. 

I`ve seen parts of my anatomy I never thought I`d see (including my spleen) - all as part of a video show in the operating theatre that was strikingly similar to the Doctor Who title sequence.  All that was missing was a little TARDIS but I`m fairly sure if there was one up there it wound up flushed away during my nighttime ordeal with the Moviprep. 

The problem that could have required banding was - in the opinion of my consultant Mr Ravi - not a problem.  I`m sure further issues can be avoided with a little dietary care.  He gave me a clean bill of health and I was discharged around 4.00pm refuelled with tea and toast.
