Please tell me the News of the World is going down for this

This is getting beyond a f***ing joke

News of the World Hacked Millie dowler`s phone

Before Millie was found, her family were frantically calling her mobile, leaving messages, imploring her to get in touch.

The C***s at the NotW were listening to the messages, then DELETING the ones they`d already heard, thus giving Millie`s parents false hope their daughter was alive, as her mobile account was coming up as active

It`s really sad that people are buying the NotW, surely that makes them almost as bad as the journalists working on it.

News International`s making harrumphing noises about helping the police with their enquiries and all that, but you`d think it would pay Rupert Murdoch to scupper the NotW, making proclamations about zero tolerance of dodgy journalism and bringing News International (har-har) into disrepute.  Give a fortnight for the smoke to clear, then launch a new Sunday Sun (or whatever) claiming that it`s Not The News Of The World.

Whatever happens, I`d hope they can hang that bloody private detective out to dry.

Maybe it`s time newspapers were licenced.  The licence would entitle them to publish, the funds paying for a new version of the Press Complaints Commission (with added teeth), which could fine a paper its weekly gross income for an infraction and withdraw the licence from a paper overstepping the bounds.  The PCC has demonstrated itself unfit for purpose (self-regulation never works), so maybe it`s time to put a proper government quango in place - Ofrag maybe.

The rest of the press should also get its act together and say they want something doing as well, as the NotW is bringing the press into disrepute.  As it is I honestly see the Millie Dowler case as part of a canker in the press that includes the phone tapping shenanigans and the hyped-up expenses scandal which was engineered by the press to bring down the Government (if you ask me).

I heard this on the radio this morning and felt sick to the core. The insensitivity involved in such calous actions defies belief. We can`t even begin to imagine the added distress this has caused the Dowlers, first with  the false hope the action provided, followed by the upset to discover a reporter was hacking the phone. FFS!!!!!

Why are we surprised to find the gutter press in the gutter.
I suspect that behind all the tutt tutting from other papers are some relieved people that it`s the NOTW that got coped.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

Just so we`re clear, it wasn`t a reporter.  It was a private investigator hired by NOTW.

No, it was that PI hired by them.  There is currently, to my knowledge, no evidence suggesting that reporters were involved in the actual hacking or listening/deleting of messages.

And don`t think for a second this is a defence of NOTW in any way, I just think it`s important to be clear on the facts as they stand.  Personally I hope Mulcaire (sp?) goes away for a very long time and any proven links to NOTW reporters and executives go the same way.

Si, I suspect that makes as much difference to me as it does to Millie`s parents. It`s the NOTW`s fault either way. They paid this man to get them information for their story, and didn`t give two hoots about the consequences.

Just heard a caller on 5live say this is worse than rape. I am guessing he is a NOTW reader.
