UHD Disc Player cleaning
So how do I clean the Lazer. On my Sony UHD player? Just lately it seems to take ages to load a disc, and can either fail to load or only load the video or the audio instead of both. Firmware's up to date so I figure it needs cleaning, but how? I knew where I was with DVD, but never seen anything to clean a 4K player with.

RE: [VIDEO] BBC is making a Victorian-era War of the Worlds TV series
Thoroughly enjoyed episode 1, but agree that the emphasis on dominant females is very ottthese days.

RE: [VIDEO] Joker
To give you an idea of how good the movie was, everyone who was in that cinema with me sat there until the end of the credits and the lights came on, then as we all stood up, everyone was exchanging comments. Wow. It blew me away. Amazing. Etc. Everyone.
You don't see that very often!

RE: [VIDEO] Joker
Yes, it is. It's a fascinating account of how a relatively normal man with a simple nervous condition gets wound up to the point of insanity.

RE: [VIDEO] Joker
I saw it yesterday and it blew me away.
Phoenix's performance, the cinematography and the soundtrack are all Oscar-worthy.
I can't recommend this film enough. It's stunning.

RE: 4K UHD blu-ray disc player
They are all smart these days. Don't buy the LG. It is flimsy in comparison to others. I have the Sony UBP-X800 which is their priciest (and first 4k player, but it is solidly built and runs silently. I'd strongly recommend you go with Sony. And yes, it's worth moving up to UHD discs. I have a substantial collection now.
Just beware of all the old movies currently getting rereleased I n the 4k format.
Same old problem. The digital "restoration" often makes them look worse than previous DVD/BD releases.

RE: [VIDEO] Chernobyl (HBO / Sky Atlantic)
I'm finding the series totally rivetting. I can't wait to see Episode 3. They only seem to suggest that the radiation causes Thyroid Cancer, but being a survivor of the Big C myself, I can't help but wonder if the increase in cancer occurrences from 1 in 3 to 1 in 2 in recent years has anything to do with Chernobyl, and that scares the bejeebers out of me.

Are Huawei Spying on us?
When the US started making noises about preventing Chinese tech firms like Huawei from selling their phones in their country, my initial reaction was to laugh. After all, the Mate 20 Pro is amazing piece of kit that I would love to own.
But I've been reading more and mulling on the hazy info that's available, and now it seems feasible that we might be being spied on via our smartphones and other smart devices.
So how concerned are the rest of you, and do you have any tips to prevent it happening?
I'm a stock Android user, currently on Oreo with a Razer phone andI have AVG running, but is it enough to feel safe?

I knew it would have to happen eventually, but I really feel this loss. Can you imagine what this world would be like if he'd never been born?

I loved the first season but gave up on season 2 quite early on. I won't go back. They f***ed it!

Was it really 10 episodes? I binged it in 2 days. It felt like about 6 episodes. I really enjoyed it. Excellent production. Very well acted.

RE: [VIDEO] Westworld Season 2
I loved the first season, but I'm losing the will to live with this season. Really not sure if I'm going to watch episode 7. Maybe I'll wait until the end of the season and see what you guys are saying, then binge it all on catch up.

RE: Disc sales down 14%
Heehee I'm ahead of a lot of you now. I spent years behind you all. I swear by solid media as streaming just doesn't cut it where playback quality is concerned, and I love to watch movies again and again. My 49"4K screen and surround sound system make both 4K and Blu-Ray discs look amazing. I just got "Blue Planet II" and "It" in 4K this week. Can't wait to watch them. I can afford the disc prices. God, DVDs used to cost just as much when they were first launched in the early Noughties!

RE: Bright
I watched it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also remarked on the Alien Nation similarity at the beginning, and also noticed the 5th Element similarity, but it is a story of Wizards, Fairies & Elves, with a funny script. Good fun! I'll definitely watch a sequel. And to me, it makes no odds whether it would sell at the cinema or not, as I hardly ever go these days. Too bloody expensive!

RE: [VIDEO] Electric Dreams (Philip K. Dick)
I've loved this series so gar, but Crazy Diamond left me scratching my head. Too many unanswered questions. Basically, I hadn't got a clue what was going on!

RE: [VIDEO] New Star Trek coming back to TV in 2017!
I think this series is visually stunning. Hate to vogons - sorry, klingons. I have decided the only way I can judge it is to ignore that it is supposed to be Star Trek. It isn't. It fails miserably as a Star Trek series. But as a new sci-fi series, it has possibilities, if they could just drop those bloody klingons!
My biggest decision has been whether to watch it in 4k HDR and full Dolby 5.1 surround sound yhrough my 4k player, or in 4k Dolby Vision with Dolby PL II through my telly. As I couldn't discern any significant difference in the audio, I opted to watch it through the TV, and can confirm that Dolby Vision is better than standard HDR, which is a pity, as so far it has not yet appeared on any discs.

RE: [VIDEO] Electric Dreams (Philip K. Dick)
I can't wait for this series. I was devastated when he died, before Blade runner had been released. I've read almost everything he ever wrote, including his early pulp fiction from the 50s.
My favourite author. Period.

Anyone Reviewing 4K Discs?
Having just moved up to the new ultra HD media, are you reviewing these discs yet on Reviewer? Just thought I'd ask. Inevitable in time, some movies will be rereleased in the new format, and I'm hoping to find out if the upgrade will be worth it.
Ta. x

RE: ARC connection
It came to me in the dead of night, as most things do. The poxy HDMI cable I used was only 2.0 so it was compatible with 4K and HDR. I needed an HDMI 2.2 lead to get the ARC connection to work. Ordered one from Amazon. All should be good tomorrow!

RE: ARC connection
Thanks for answering. It's definitely mapped correctly. I've decided not to be too geeky about it & just connect up with an old digital optical cable, which works just fine!

RE: [VIDEO] Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
I intend to see this because I like Luc Bsson's style, although it seems dated in a weird way from what I've seen so far. More 90s than anything. Can't wait to see it though.

ARC connection
So, since getting my LG 49UH770V telly, I now have a Sony UBP-X800 4K disc player and a Pioneer
VSX330 4K amp.
All pretty good so far, although I have since realised that I can't passthrough the 4K signal from the player to the TV via the amp, because although itsupports 4K, it doesn't support HDR.
Anyway, I was trying to set up the ARC connection with the TV. Right type of cable connected to the right connections on both pieces of equipment. Audio output on TV switched to HDMI ARC and audio input on amp switched to TV...silence.
Any ideas? I am sure it has to be a setting onthe amp that I'm missing but I can't find anything.

RE: Tablet games hidden costs
This is becoming a huge problem for parents of youngsters. I feel lucky that I had my kids n the 90's, so they were old enough to know better before these "games" came along!

RE: New TV time - advice please
Well, I got my telly last Sunday. Ended up getting a Super Ultra HD 49incher with HDR Plus and Dolby Vision, and Harmon Kardon Virtual Surround speakers, which are supposedly on par with sound bars. It does sound nice, but not as great as expected, but I do have a 5.1 system.
Now TV took a bit of faffing about to set up. You log in with your existing Sky account, but the last software update caused a glitch so that all non-alphanumerical characters aren't recognised. So I registered my 3 months free Entertainment pass to my Sky account, then couldn't log in on the TV. Googled the isdue and discovered the ONLY workaround was to create a new account, so losing the 3 free months. However, I got one month of free Entertainment AND movies, so it's swings and roundabouts, I guess.
Sky tried their damnedest to get me to stay. Instantly offered to drop my £38 monthly fee to a mere £22, which just p***ed me off, to be honest.
But it's all rigged up now and its bloody lovely.
