Page 1 of Ken Clarke, Should he go?
General Forum
Not to start a big hoo ha or for a minute suggest that rape is not the most hideous crime but surely the man made sense in saying that rape and an 18 year old guy sleeping with a 15 year old girl which is considered rape are completely different??
I`m actually inclined to agree with you. The situation you describe is rape only in legal terms (and rightly so). Having someone drag you into the bushes and perform an horrendous act on you is a completely different act all together, and anyone with half an ounce of sense can`t deny that fact. He wasn`t belittling rape victims (which seems to be being inferred) but merely voicing a widely-held opinion.
It`s typical media jumping at the chace to discredit a polititian on the mereest whim

RE: Ken Clarke, Should he go?
I listened to the interview on 5live at the time and thought he was struggling to get his point across. His main problem is not what he was saying but the way he said it. The fact that he sounds so ****ing smug was never going to help either.

They could be announcing the death of their nearest and dearest and still sound smug.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
He always reminds me of The Mary Whitehouse Experience, and Safety First with Baddiel.
Now there was nooo neeeed... for that to happen.

Ken Clarke should have gone years ago. You can tell by his thinking of a violent crime like rape having "degrees" that he still thinks like a QC. He doesn`t need the tabloids to discredit him, he obviously thinks of the rest of us as beneath him, and justice as a philosophical exercise with no responsibility or consequence.

I think I agree that the two are completely different, and should carry completely different sentences. I must admit, I read the story on the BBC enws site earlier, and got quite angry as it did seem to be reported as though he was belittling victims of an awful crime, I had forgotten that the situation with the eighteen year old and fifteen year old, and similar circumstances were considered rape, and they definitly should be treated less harshly than violent rape IMO.
RE: Ken Clarke, Should he go?
excellent blog here that pretty much sums it up.

But it doesn`t Matter what he REALLY said, it`s what the tabloids tell the s***-swallowing public that sells copy
