Page 1 of Guitar, Drum newbies........
General Forum
Any of you lot used http://www.smhtp.com/home.php to learn guitar or drums?
Looks pretty good, albeit the usual costs involved downloading tuition vids (£3.50).....
Just wondering if this was/is a good aid to playing and technique....

Personally I would suggest getting yourself a real tutor, might be costly but worth it because it aint just about learning a few songs, you gotta learn theory behind it to get the drift.
But I am aware that showmehowtoplay.com is a good website for online learning and £3:50 don`t seem that bad, so if you really want to I guess it aint a bad idea, just buy some guitar learning books to back yourself up. :)

Proud dad! :D
Matters not at the mo, tried to re-string this one and made a total arse of it. Dunno what I did wrong, but it makes the same sound regardless of finger/fret position.... Off to the guitar shop we go..........!

Well that I am, but unfortunately THO doesn`t take too kindly to being mistaken for a fella on this occassion. :D
I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
I hate answering the phone at work - It disturbs my sleep.
you may have used the wrong guage strings for you guitar, i had this problem a while ago.
take it to the guitar shop and the magic guitar pixies will tell you the right guage for you.
If you`re looking for a short cut to playing guitar quickly, then check out the barre chord - a simple gateway to playing a heap of stuff with minimal experience.
Live a life you love, use a god you trust, and don`t take it all too seriously
Tutors can be funny f***ers though.
When I started playing bass, I got one that was utterly obsessed by technique.
Took all the fun out of it.
Used to make me play stuff, which I`d nail.
Then he`d tell me I`d ended on the wrong finger. :/
Christ, I was watching the Creme re-union gig in HD the other night, and Jack Bruce played 90% of the gig with one bloody finger!.
It did my head in, so I jacked it in.
I don`t care if I`m techinically inept, if it sounds right, it is right!
Remember, bass players don`t make mistakes.
If you hear a bum note, it`s `jazz`. ;)
There is so much free stuff on the internet, the only reason I can see for buying anything is if you have hit a roadblock, and just aren`t improving, or the fun isn`t there anymore.

My favourite tab site was shut down......sniff..... :(
It was `bass tab archive`
I have a good ear, but tabs sometimes help.
Can`t read music, no interest in being able to do so.

You think barre chords are a `simple` gateway ? Took me a year of playing before I could comfortably play barre chords (still hate `A` shape ones !)
Easier to learn a bunch of open chords and teach yourself Bob Dylan`s Greatest Hits or everything Counting Crows have ever written !
