Just got car. Needs Taxing. Can I drive it if on way to tax it?
It`s MOTed + Insured.
But I have to go to Trafford to sort out Tax as it previously had disabled tax on it!
Will I get a fine if pulled or am I allowed to drive it if I am on my way to tax it?

A friend not only got fined but also a bullet against his name for driving without a tax disc while he was on the way to do just that.

Is it currently on a SORN ? (Statutory Off Road Notification)
If not, they may want to know why not.
My brother forgot to do a SORN for his motorbike, and got fined when he did get around to applying for roadtax.
Apply for it online,it works a treat.
No risk of getting pulled over then.

BTW,driving without a tax disc does not invalidate your insurance,so don`t worry too much about having an accident if you do decide to `take the chance` and drive to the licencing office.

I once bought a car from Brighouse Car Auctions. Drove it back without roadtax or insurance, as many cars are sold without roadtax. I was lucky.
The next week on the single road from the auction to the motorway there was a posse of police cars. They stopped everyone, not only checking Tax disc, idnetities but asking if they had a job or were on the dole!!

Can`t do that as it is changing from Disable tax to normal tax which can only be done at a DVLA office.
If I did get pulled, what is the offence. If it`s no `road tax` then when I get it, it ill be purchased on day of offence and, back dated to before the offence happened so technically no offence would be commited. If it`s not displaying a valid `road tax` licence then what happens when you apply online. You have to wait up to 5 days to get it through the post so does that mean you risk a fine if you drive before it arrives???

Oh sod it!!
I`ll get the train and a bus. Lot of hassle but cheaper than a fine!

You can drive a car on the road without tax and mot if you are taking it for a pre-booked appointment at a garage, however I don`t know if the same rules would apply for road tax.
Credo!

Well i am driving around with an out of date tax on the car at the moment, because i renewed on line and the new disc has not arrived in the post yet. Part of me wants to be pulled over so i can have a row with a copper when i know i am right :p
