General Forum
Stalwart 1960s tv star and character actor Bill Franklyn has passed away aged 80 following a long battle with prostate cancer. Best known for his appearances opposite comedy legends such as Morecambe and Wise and Dick Emery, Franklyn was also the star of early-sixties spy caper "Top Secret" (now completely lost) which led to him fronting the long-running Sch... You Know Who campaign for Schweppes Tonic.
In 2004 he became the second voice of the HitchHiker`s Guide To The Galaxy on Radio 4.
A class act in so many ways.

My suspicions were aroused when I saw he was wearing Battle of the Bulge ribbons.
There are no ribbons for the Battle of the Bulge!
Precisely.
Bill. RIP
Todays The Day. Tomorrow can wait...
What a guy, what a voice, RIP my childhood :(
Sue
retired newsie and reviewer with lovely legs :D
Also used to be the voice on radio 4 quiz programmes like Quote Unquote.
Very distinctive voice, you could never mistake him for anyone else.
As Sue says, another bit of my youth disappears.

I take nothing on trust, proof required. :D
Snaps
When we are born we are naked, wet, hungry, and we get smacked on our arse. From there on in, life gets worse
One of those people who could make you smile with just one look. You just knew a dry quip was coming from those lips.
... If found, please return this person to the insane asylum, as it really annoys them when people do that :¦
Didn`t he also present another spy/quiz/comedy type show in the seventies?
Just saw him in an episode of The Avengers on BBC4 last week.
Another fine British acting stalwart passes away.. :(
