RE: Early PS3 reports from gamers...they`re very impressed!

Graphic wise saw a couple of game clips on BBC News24 Click program at the week-end, the F1 game graphics were very impressive, looked better than my friends 360.
I`m biased, but I think the Ps3 will take the lead in the end.

BTW did you notice the number of ventilation holes in the Ps3?

RE: Hmm...Sky Engineer sounds dodgy

Sky contract their work out don`t they. The last engineer from sky I had looked as if he had just come out of prison and was sizing up the joint. He was SO scruffy and dirty it was hard to believe he was legit. Did an ok job, but I have never felt so uneasy with someone in the house like that before.

Yep, it looks like DV, but it is full rez hi definition. Steve Roberts at the Restoration Team reckons:

...there`s something very odd about the movement rendition - although captured progressively, it has the feel of filmised video. It`s got that weird "averaged" look to it.

I`m told that for some reason the Torchwood production team don`t like using the built-in HD-->SD downconverter in the Sony HDCam VTRs* (which the rest of us in London use all the time perfectly happily) and so are playing out SD direct from their HD editing or grading platform instead. It`s possible that they have something set wrong, I suppose.

I`m told it looks wonderful shown in native HD, but I can`t comment as I`m not one of these more-money-than-sense types who can afford bleeding edge technology. I`m lucky if I can afford any bleeding technology.

*that`s the welsh for you, never going to be told anything by the english. (now I`ll be in trouble!! chode)

Funny that, The DW team (ok, RTD), has said they won`t be filming DW in HD because of the cost of the FX in HD, and then they film TORCHWOOD with FX in HD. Less effects I know, but you would have thought they would look better.

How did the birdie look in HD, Ogster?

Also watched it again last night and now think it`s not too bad, it was just that god awful cybergirl suit that threw me wednesday. And Ianto`s over the top acting along with the cybergirls non-acting.

Three in One: Whats your Favourite Book, Song and DVD/Video of the moment?

All rolled into one for me.

Reading Peter Hoeq`s `Smilla`s Sense of Snow` again.
Kate Melua`s `Nine Million Bicycles` on the CD. Saw her sing on BBC breakfast on a north sea gas rig and had to get her album, the second track just seems to be hard wired into my soul at the moment.
And real nerdy, going back in time to when I was a kid standing on platform 2 looking up at big green giants with fantastic bellowing engines as they pulled their trains out heading for London and being so totally blown away. So I`m watching `Destination Ramsgate` a video of the view from the cab of a preserved Deltic diesel locomotive going from Birmingham to Ramsgate in 98`.

Mind you I can do all three at once! read while listening to the music, and occasionally looking up to see the world going by. Think that`s a real lazy afternoon ;)

RE: Just helped to bury my cousin`s 6hr old baby girl

As others have said, sometimes just being their close for them helps more than words ever will.

My younger sister lost her second little boy hours before they were going to induce him. I got to the hospital that evening and they had put him in a cot in a room so I could go and say hello. Looking at him their, all I wanted to do was pick him up and hug the life back into him. When I got back to the car I just sat their and cried my eyes out.

All you can do is hold it together and be their for them. Give them someone to hold on if they want while they try to make sense of the world as they come to terms with losing their little girl.

RE: TORCHWOOD. the season 1 thread :)

Gee! What a bunch of miserable burgers some of you have been about TORCHWOOD. (and you know truly folks that I think you are a wonderful wonderful brunch of grapes really :D )

I thought it was great, and wow!, yes, it could have been better if the beeb had the millions of dollars to spend the US tv company`s have, but then they would be doing the same thing each and every week to keep the American dum-dums watching. EVEN X-Files did that. And much as I loved the first couple of seasons, boy oh boy did they have some stinkers!

The BBC should really know its place and make cop shows and eastpenders.

Thoughts on what has already been said,
I think the swearing is to stop anyone saying `oh well, it`s off Dr Who and that`s a kids show, so this must be to`, but hopefully it will settle down.

Wouldn`t Torchwood have noticed the TARDIS on their backdoor refuelling or was it their annual daytrip to Bangor.
I assumed that Torchwood Cardiff had been mothballed along with now lost Torchwood 4 as Torchwood organisation became London centric. With the kaboom! of London, and closing down of it, we will no doubt find out that when Jack came to be the new boss and found their was a base at Cardiff he moved the now small Torchwood centred around him their in hope of running into the Doctor again. seeing as he is now immortal, he can wait for the doctor and Tardis to return.

and why have we only found out that capt jack can`t die?followed by
I thought of two things - he was infected by those nano robots in WWII, or he could die and the Tardis bought him back to life, and since then he can`t die.

we found out the same time as you!, Ras mentioned the cause of it, when Rose infused with the Time Vortex at the end of season one, says `I bring Life` and Jack just killed by the Daleks breaths again. And as he says since then, he can`t die. But it does kind of freak people out. if he tells em :)

RE: Anyone playing `JUST CAUSE` If so HELP*

Big red face, BIG RED FACE

Ok, so what did I do, well I was sure I had shot at all the barrels at the roadblock just in case. Played too many games not to know about exploding barrels. So some how I missed one, and after getting really p*ssed with the game, shot a round into the barrel next to me, the one I`d missed it turns out, and blew myself up, BOOM!

So if anyone else gets stuck here, kick yourself and shoot the darn barrels. :D

A big thanks droogy, I had to wing it at the start as their was no instructions with the game from Blockbusters. I`ll start again and hopefully find some grenades dropped by the troops at the beach landing point.

Anyone playing `JUST CAUSE` If so HELP*

Hi,

Just rented this for the week-end to see if its any good. And I`m stuck right at the start at the roadblock, can`t get into the bulldozer to move it, can`t find grenades to blow it up. What the heck do I do to get the Hum-Vee past it? Tried just getting back on after killing all the solders for him to drive around, theirs space, but he just stays their not moving. I`ve tried looking around for something to use to either get in it or move it, but as soon as you move away looking your contact at base gets topped and its mission failed. I stuck for what to do.

BTW can`t wait for Test Drive Unlimited next year on the Ps2. Not as snazzie graphic wise as on the X`box 360, but now I don`t have to buy one to play what looks like the best driving game around.

RE: POLL: Should muslim women remove thier veils

Hello All,
Interesting seeing all your views.

I have to say I think wearing the veil over the face in a western country is rude, a matter of bad manners on the wearers part (I have no problem with any woman wearing clothing from her neck to her toes, or covering her hair. Nuns have been doing it for centuries). I see it in the same way as a western woman going out and wearing a short skirt and top in a muslin country. it is disrespectful to the people of that country. As someone has already said, `When in Rome`.

And before someone says well this is their country too, they were born here, and they have the right to choose to dress that way if they want too. Well, no they don`t.

If their parents, grandparents, came here from a country where that is the way for a woman to dress, they knew where they were going when they came here, and they knew how people, and women in the UK dressed. And if you can not accept that, well, don`t come here. As far as I`m concerned coming here means that you accept that, and that you should try to fit in with your new country. And that does include the way you dress.

If someones religion says a woman should not show her arms, ankles or whatever, or simply prefers not too through choice, well their are enough lengths of dresses on sale for a woman to choose how much, or how little she shows of her self without dressing in a black sheet with only her eyes showing.

Help! need advice on a cheap DVD player that plays NTSC DVDs on PAL only tv`s

Sadly the old £35 Yamada 5520 has died, only really used it for copying home DVDs to the panasconic, and playing NTSC DVDs on my PAL only tv. As the Panasconic while playing the ntsc disc`s, does not convert them to a pal signal.

Can anyone recommend a replacement?

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

Nick, Dr Who science has always been a bit on the shaky side. I found that out when I was seven, when I discovered I could not build my own working Tardis, and that the parents vetoed every plan I had for sneaking aboard the Dr`s. :D

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

Also, as has probably already been said, if its strong enough to pull a million daleks straight in, surely even a small amount of void stuff would have been enough to rip billies arms off.

The Doctor said the Daleks were soaked in the void stuff as they had gone into the void during the War. The Cybermen also as it had taken them three years to cross the void to get to this earth. While Rose, the Doctor, Mickey and friends had zapped across the void in seconds, so did not have the same level of void stuff.

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

My list for 2006 is:

1. The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit
2. The Girl In The Fireplace
3. School Reunion
4. Army Of Ghosts / Doomsday
5. New Earth
6. Tooth And Claw
7. Rise Of The Cybermen / The Age Of Steel
8. The Idiot`s Lantern
9. Fear Her

Just loved the way the Daleks dismissed the Cybermen. The arrogant, totally insane pepper pots we all know and love.

What a great two parter. Rose as we all knew she would ended with her dream family of Mum and Dad, all be it on the alternative earth, and things came full circle with her being back with Mickey. Her only loss being the greatest love of her life, the Doctor. Marvellous way to end Rose`s time on the program.

Can't say I'm too happy with Catherine Tate being in the Christmas episode. I hope we are not going the way of the US sitcoms of when they are hot, every tv cleb wants gets a look in. This will make two tv 'comics' I find embarrassing to watch taking over and spoiling an episode. There are enough good actors out their to not need to hire 'star' turns. Still we will have to wait and see. I like the way the bbc is not saying they have a transmission date yet for the Christmas show. Like it's NOT going to be put out at prime time Christmas day. Who do they think they are kidding.

RE: Zovirax has been disabled.

I have to say Zovirax got what he deserved.

No one has to post on a thread, you make a choice to, and by and large get to spout off about subjects that would have people clearing a large empty space around you if you did it at the pub or club. BUT their are unwritten rules, you do not go and sh*t on some ones bereavement. It does not matter if its a human one or a pet one, If you disagree, you stay away.

I belong to other forums where a strict code of conduct is in force. He would have been thrown out of them long a go. DVD reviewer is a remarkably easy going place, so if you can`t stay within the bounds they set. You have no place here.

Never going to happen, Terry Nations estate is VERY protective to wards the Daleks, hence all the shenanigans in getting them into the first RTD series.
