depends how portable you want it and if you want traffic updates. Garmin is more portable than the TomTom and the traffic data is sent via fm reciever were the tomtom uses your mobile phone. Which of course costs :)

Yeah its a crackin lil gizmo for £99, I bought one a few weeks ago to get me down from here in the sunny North East to Brighton on my holidays and it didnt let me down, it was amusing for a couple of miles where the A1 has been slightly redirected as it had me driving thru a field for a few miles and was constantly trying to find me a way back onto the road I was already on lol.... apart from that it was fantastic...now and again it throws an odd command at you such as `turn right` while driving down a motorway when it should have said left but I suppose every system gets confused now and again. I havent used any other satnav systems so I cant say its better than any others or any other are better than it, but for £99 you cant go wrong

I got mine from comet btw

Friend of mine uses a TomTom (got it for his work) and within the first couple of days it helped him find one place where he had to work (took him straight to it) where if he had tried to find it without, he thinks that it would have taken another couple of hours just to find it.
Also, my cousin has a satnav, where they had to take their daughter to a Brownie/Guide camp right out in the sticks somewhere. Anyway they had someone that knew the way there so they followed them and when they got there, they marked it on their satnav so that it could take them back there to collect their daughter.

But they`re not perfect ;)

Personally I am loking at the TomTom one becasue you can get a powered bracket that runs off the ignition. This means it sits on your vents and looks like a moby holder. So unlike the suction cups you dont have to keep taking it off to stop people breaking into your car.
