Long time lurker - finally posting for opinions on my current project...?

JamieM (Competent) posted this on Monday, 14th August 2006, 18:36

I`ve been a member of DVD Reviewer for about 5 years now, and apart from the odd post here and there, I am generally what I think is termed as a `lurker` - I visit regularly to enjoy reading everyones posts, opinions etc, but rarely contribute myself.

So, after all this time, I`m wanting to get everyone`s opinion on a little project I`ve had simmering for a while. I am a designer by trade, and dabble in writing stories - screenplays to be specific. I figured, where better to get peoples opinion about a screenplay than a site dedicated to movies? The problem with the written word is that you have to read it to get a good feel for the story. So, to allow people to get the `flavour` of my ideas, I decided to produce what is essentially a mini website that gives a small taster as to the nature of the screenplay.

So, I invite you all to please take a look at the mini-site for my screenplay called `Sentient`. Please have a poke around - the site contains a short trailer, some concept imagery, and a synopsys of the stroy, and let me know what you think? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. For ovbious reasons I haven`t included the screnplay itself on the site, but the site contents should hopefully give you an idea of where the story is going. Please note, the site requires Flash Player 8 to be installed, otherwise you will miss a lot of visual content if viewed with a previous version of Flash. The site is about 5MB in size (due to it`s highly visual nature), so takes about 20 seconds to load on a 2MBit connection.

I look forward to hearing back from you all!

I`m a great believer in concept over usability and any site that steers well clear of Jakob Nielsen and his bloody rules is ok by me! So in that respect, I really liked the design.

The synopsis, I`m not too sure of. Not enough detail to get me interested. Is the main protaganist a private detective or a police detective? How did you research the russian element of the story? what do you mean by underground war? and how does that effect the world? I think you need to eloborate a little to add a little interest to the story. It all seems very one dimensional and em.. how does a detective have a pioneering nueroligist as a side kick?

:o :o :o :o
An astonishingly professional site! :o
Have you really put that together for your story? Flash, music, effects etc.? :o
In the trailer, when it cuts to movie footage, what is that? Not stuff you`ve shot?..?

Obviously, can`t say too much about the `story` `cos it`s not there but if you put as much effort into the story and it`s as creative as the site, it could be gooood.. or could be all style, no substance.. more info needed...

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Well, the site is fantastic, a hell of a lot better than most movie `sites` out there. The story is intruiging, but I`m a little comfused about the trailer. Has the screenplay been shot? or is it just a mix of flash shots from other movies? (Thought i saw some Entrapment and Ronin shots in there)

Oh, and here`s the poster as your link doesn`t seem to be working

Just as well you detailed your history here or I`d be screaming "Viral Marketing!" about now. If the screenplay`s half as good as the website I`ll be well impressed. As it is it already looks like a fantastic trailer for an XBOX game or similar - you don`t fancy taking it down that line?

Look forward to seeing more of it in future - good luck.
