RE: Demons - ITV

Lasted 10 minutes in our house. Dire stuff.

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

I would hate to see that happen so I guess that probably makes it exactly the kind of thing RTD would do. Could be nice to see 9th & 10th doctors having to agree to it though.

But surely too much has happened - apart from anything else it would leave Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures in a difficult position.

RE: HELP!!!

Try pressing CTRL & ALT & one of the arrow keys - it`s often a shortcut to rotate a screen and easy to do by mistake.

RE: .mac is it worth it ? what does it really do ?

From what I remember when I had my trial 18 months ago it`s really just a web hosting service that`s sepcifically set up for Mac users that is designed to work seamlessly with websites built with iWeb, allowing a lot of the advanced features that you can`t (easily) use if hosting your site elsewhere. BUT I found it dreadfully slow as a host of a website, which was fairly image intensive but it was painful to use in comparison with teh same site hosted elsewhere.

Might be of use to true beginners looking to make everything as easy as possible but I don`t think it offers value to those capable of going elsewhere.

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

Thought the Christmas ep was really poor - pretty much an action only ep with RTD trying to make us care about characters and failing miserably (for me at least). I enjoyed the Children in Need 5 minute one, 100 times more than yesterday`s. Only 1 or 2 lines that made me smile. Disappointed.

RE: Any Fridge Experts Out There? Problems With A Hotpoint Fridge Freezer

Think we had one of these a while back although don`t know the model number. We had problems a couple of times with frost building up on the inetrnal sensors and were told that despite it being `frost free` it isn`t really and should still be defrosted every so often. Maybe worth giving that a go if your freezer isn`t too full.

Worst case scenario if it packs in there are often fridges/freezers up for offer on freecycle if there is a group near you, that could do you over Christmas

RE: Where Oh Where Could Little DS Be?

If you have a Debenhams store near you many of these have a GAME concession in them and they often have stock when the GAME stores have run out as no one remembers they are there. Wife picked one up in Debenhams last weekend.

RE: Scotland

Well this Scotland supporter has no complaints. Had Ferguson`s goal been chalked off we couldn`t really have objected. Yes, the `foul` that lead to the Italy winner was a joke but those kind of decisions happen all the time.

In a group where we were expected to come a distant fourth we managed a close 3rd and with our ranking now improved we should get into the second pot of seeds for the world cup draw, so in theory we shouldn`t end up in such a ridiculously hard group. At least we didn`t get the draw and have to be waiting for the France v Ukraine result. My one real regret is that I think had we actually got there we could have performed well, rather than teh way it usually ends up when we reach the finals.

POLL: Film/Book/Theatre Reviews - what is their *main* purpose?

This post includes a poll.Having a debate elsewhere about the primary purpose of reviews and I`m interested to see how others view this.

RE: Did you get the new JD Freebie?

Yep, nice. Although I quite liked the poker dice too.

RE: Apple iPod nano 4GB Silver £69....

LOL....just passed on this news to a mate who was boasting to me yesterday how he`d ordered 2 of them from Amazon for £79 a piece..he`s not happy now.

Well, if you`re feeling generous you couldpoint him in teh direction of their not very publicised but very reliable `price drop` promise for items that are reduced within 30 days. Did me nicely with the B5 Complete Universe box sets a few months back. More from an older thread at MSE...

RE: New Ipod Touch - how wee?

I don`t think there are many people who would suggest the ipod touch is a great buy as a media player. if you`re looking for something comparable to the Archos offerings then the ipod classics are surely a closer alternative. What you get for your £199 for an ipod touch is the wi-fi capability and internet access. As more places offer free wi-fi and wider areas start to get coverage I could certainly see me paying that as a one off fee to have true mobile internet access. Yes, you might be better getting it as an iphone when they arrive in the UK but being able to have it without the contract is a nice option.

Personally I`m more concerned about the decision to make the ipod nano a mini media player rather than just music. I`ve never really understood why anyone would watch video on that size of screen, but I think it`s a mistake to have bulked it out to give you this - the attraction of the nano as a music player was its size.

Don`t see me buying any of these any time soon - quite happy with my 1st gen nano, but I`ll certainly be popping into the Apple store for a play.

RE: Which famous persons death affected you the most?

Douglas Adams. Far too soon with so much left undone.

RE: 4x500ml coke = FIFA 07 game

You`re welcome - mine arrived this morning as well. (Football from the offer arrived a couple of days ago.) Well pleased with this promotion as I ended up winning two sets of match tickets as well. Thank you Coke.

(sorry Barrs for my short period of desertion from Irn Bru)

"Black Watch" play on BBC2 Scotland tonight (Monday)

"Black Watch" is the play by the National Theatre of Scotland that took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm in 2006 and has since toured Scotland to sell out audiences. It tells the story of a group of Black Watch soldiers who have left the army following a tour in Iraq.

It is an incredible piece of theatre but I`m not sure quite how it will translate to the small screen - this is a filmed performance of the play, not a TV adaptation.

If you`d ever be likely to see the play live, I`d not recommend watching this as it could ruin the experience, but if you`re unlikely to ever see it in a theatre it should be well worth seeing on TV.

This is only on BBC2 Scotland tonight at 10pm so those of you elsewhere will need to use the option of watching it on Sky (Channel 990) if you can. I`m not sure if you can get regional BBC2 on cable.

RE: Monday was a quiet day for news obviously (Land Registry Rant follows)

I thought the problem was that they now make scans of the actual documents available - including mortgage account details, amount of mortgage, and teh bit that was causing the fuss - signatures. At least that was my understanding from the bit I caught on 5 live.

RE: Edinburgh Festival 2007

Okay, Wednesday saw -
"Damascus" - not the big political play a lot of people expected but probably much the better for it. Political cultural issues are largely on teh edges and this is more about teh individuals. Pretty funny with good performances.

"Mehndi Night" - youth theatre show about the traditional Bengali version of a hen night. Sharp, funny and very well performed. Everything it should be.

Back through again on Saturday for -
"Armageddon & Fishcakes" - just about funny enough to make a good start to the day.

"45 Minutes" - simply awful.

"Rebus McTaggart:Crimewarrior" Hilarious. Very very funny just about all the way through. More consistently funny than last year, but maybe not quite as sidesplitting.

"James II" Good historical play in a gently humourous style with excellent `close up` acting from all involved. Brilliant.

RE: Edinburgh Festival 2007

3 more on Tuesday for me...

"The Butler Did It!?" - p***take of Agatha Christie style romps. Started slowly but warmed up in the second half to a great finish.

"Turn Me To Stone" - Bit of a stange tale but some strong dialogue and characterisation, but the two parts of the story don`t really mesh.

"Killer Joe" - (With DazMack`s Tony Law in the Title role) Trailer Trash American Comedy/thriller. Nudity/Sex/Language/Violence - everything you could ask for really but the ending is a bit of a let down

RE: Edinburgh Festival 2007

Seeing a lot of theatre at the Fringe - 4 so far and another 12 to go...

"Venus as a Boy" - bit of an odd tale but very well performed
"Pit" - drifting towards the wierd end of the scale, but still interesting
"Love Labours Won" - humourous homage to Shakespeare - good fun
"Emergence-See" - Stunning performance of characters, funny and powerful

RE: A favour please...

Thanks guys, got the rating up to 2.1 an hour or so ago, but it`s dropped down to 1.5 in the space of about 10 votes so I reckon it`s one person who`s registered lots of times with different e-mails and is going round lowering everyone elses scores. Not much point in trying to compete against that - just need to hope the judges like it and choose it as one of their 5 winners. It just hacks me off that somebody doing that is going to end up getting rewarded for it with a bundle of cash.

Thanks for trying - much appreciated.

RE: A favour please...

Thanks guys - keep em coming :)
Much appreciated, and I don`t think getting folks from forums to vote isn`t unfair - it is after all pretty much the point of these things, but i didn`t want to be taking advantage of goodwill on the forum. I was as interested in countering the effects of those dishing out lots of low votes to everyone else as to get a few extra votes for myself.

Cheers!

A favour please...

I hate all those `please vote for me in the XXXX contest` requests taht end up in forums, so this *isn`t* one of those. Honest - I`m not even going to tell you which entry is mine. PEPSI currently have a competition where they are giving 10 prizes of £1000 each week for a video clip about how Pepsi makes you feel (yes I know my sig here is about Irn Bru and it does make me feel a little dirty but £1000 may well be a nice new HD TV!). 5 prizes based on the judges and 5 prizes based on votes on the site.

http://www.pepsi.co.uk/taste/RateIt.aspx

Anyway, some $%*&%^$& are voting everyone else`s clips very low rather than based on if they are any good or not - some are some aren`t. So if any of you guys have a few minutes to spare and feel like having a look through some short clips and voting for them *properly* then it might undo some of the messing about these guys have done, and some of them are actually quite funny (some funny good some funny bad). Even if I don`t get my score raised I`ll be much happier if the results are more about the effort soem people have put in.

Any help much appreciated

4x500ml coke = FIFA 07 game

New coke promo is football related with each bottle/can having a code you can enter at www.coca-cola.co.uk/football for a chance to win match tickets (Coca-cola league & SPL games). Each code is also worth points (1 or 2 depending on the size) and 8 points can be redeemed for a mitre football or a copy of FIFA 07 for XBOX 360, PS2, PSP or DS. Limited to the first 2000 claims for the game and the ball so be quick...

500ml bottles worth 2 points and are currently 2 for £1.40 in tesco.

I just did 8 bottles to get 16 codes so I could get the game and the football - and I won a pair of tickets too so I`m well happy!

RE: Nurses = pay rise = Industrial action??

Nurses good will and reluctance to strike will always be taken advantage of. I would have no problem with nurses going on strike, but I don`t think now is the right time to do it. Gordon Brown couldn`t possibly be seen to give in to a union (even nurses) so early - the Tories and other unions would have a field day. Accept the poor pay deal now, let some other union take on Brown first (and no doubt lose) and then quietly threaten action in the run up to the next election when the chances of success will be much better.

"Top Gear Cool Wall" with "Top Gear" magazine

Not a bargain but I figured a few folks might like a bit of fun with this so sticking it in the general forum...

The new issue of "Top Gear" magazine (£3.95 I think) comes with a set of fridge magnets of the cool wall including the presenters and around 30 cars. Great fun choosing what goes where...

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

Horrible...just horrible. With so many possibilities this is so disappointing.
I was hanging in there for the first half of this last season through all the dross waiting for the Steven Moffatt episode and was also delighted by Human Nature/Family of Blood but with Tate involved I think I`l probably have given up long before they get round to the good episodes.

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

From what i had heard I expected to hate this but actually quiet liked it, yeah the resolve was very weak but I thought the nice touches made up for it and the last 5 minutes had a couple of good surprises.

RE: Glasgow airport attack?

Getting very strange all this - the attacker who was burned was taken to the RAH Hospital in Paisley, and Sky are now reporting that the Hospital is now being evacuated??? This is a fairly substantial hospital with probably several hundred patients, so I can`t believe the decision to evacuate it would be taken lightly...

RE: Glasgow airport attack?

CNN just reported that two cars were involved.
