General Forum
Howdy,
As most of you know im getting into this selling on e-bay thing but i dont see the point in having paypal. I mean why would i want to pay 50p everytime i want to withdraw £50 of my own money???
Do you guys use it? What are the advantages?
Cheers
Neil

As a buyer, it`s great, in that the seller receives instant payment and therefore you get your goods a lot quicker than paying by cheque.
As a seller - hey, bump your price up, or state on your item that you will charge a small % for paypal payments.
As for getting your money back - If you`re to become a regular on ebay, leave it there for future purchases!

you dont have to pay 50p.. its 25 p for anything under 50 quid... all i do is wait untill its got over 50 quid in then withdraw

If you`re selling internationally, PayPal is still by far the easiest way to accept payments from foreign bidders.

Also , I think that having Paypal as an option for payment is an advantage to an Ebay seller. Many buyers (myself included) prefer the convenience of paying by a few mouse clicks rather than wiiting out a cheque , adressing the envelope , posting it and then having a 5 day wait while the cheque gets to the seller and he / she waits for it to clear.
The charges can be a pain but , as `V` said either pass it on to the buyer (so long as you state this in the auction detail) or make an allowance for it in the price or p&p charge.
Overall , you are more likely to attract additional bidders and possibly get a better price on Ebay if you accept Paypal.
I`m with ogster there, I actually don`t buy something if they don`t take PayPal most of the time, unless the item is extremely rare and I absolutely have to have it. Cheques are too much effort. :)
However I do hate it when sellers say add 5% or whatever bollox to the auction conditions, I`d much rather they include the price in the P&P, and then offer a discount if you pay by cheque.

when they say `add 5% for paypal` on an auction, to me its just greed if it only costs 25p to withdraw an amount under £50....Ive seen items with a starting price more than that with `add 5% for paypal fees` in the ad...sorry you wont be getting any money from me :)
dunno about anyone else but the `add 5%` thing puts me off buying something more than paying an extra few pence for p&p....

you do get charged however on any payment made to you... Paypal take a percentage of the total.. so that where the "add 5% for paypal" charges come in.. not the withdrawl fee
Personally, i think PayPal is for losers - online payment systems suck you in with their instant payment, no hassle nonsense, but the harsh reality is that they`re out to rob us all of our cash.
You only have to see www.notpaypal.com for proof this (dis)organisation is the pits.
I would do my usual and quote, but i`ll only get ambushed by petty forum users....
