RE: ADSL / Cable Modem Router Question
Thanks for the input , guys.
He has got it all working using the old router.Ethernet cable from RJ45 broadband outlet to RJ45 on router , ethernet from another router RJ45 to Xbox , set up wireless , connect laptop and it all works !Wireless range seems to cover the flat ok (it is all on one floor) and amazingly a couple of his flatmates have connected with no problems.
ADSL / Cable Modem Router Question
I have a question for the massed networking minds of DVD Reviewer.
My son has moved into his uni flat and has cable broadband provided by Ask4.com. No choice as far as supplier goes , they are the only ones in the halls of residence .
Problem is two fold. Firstly , broadband consists of a single RJ45 outlet which connects to the laptop or his xbox, Both work fine , but he would like both connected at the same time. I`m guessing that a simple switch / router would be available to do the job ?
Second part , ideally he would like to set up a wireless network so that he and his flatmates could get one of the higher bandwidth packages and share the costs. He has an old ADSL modem router (Netgear DG834G). Would this work with a RJ45 - R111 cable or would he need a cable router ? I suspect this would be the best option anyway as the Netgear is pretty antiquated , so any recommendations (must be cheap - they are students after all).
Sorry if some of this seems like a silly question. I have a little knowledge which as we all know can sometimes be a dangerous thing.

RE: Budget e-reader?
How about this one - seems cheap and cheerful enough
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BINATONE-2283-SLIMLINE-READ-ME-CLASSIC-6-E-READER-/250880488903?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item3a69a475c7#ht_1680wt_1199
Casino Royale Deluxe Edition Blu Ray - £7.98 (or cheaper)
at amazon.co.uk.
It also appears to be in the 3 for 2 promotion so could be even cheaper.
Be warned though - it could well be a misprice as they are showing the same price for the normal edition on Blu Ray and the Deluxe edition on DVD.
If you want it (and lets face it this was a much better movie than the newly released Quantum of Solace) give it a try - they can only say no :)

RE: Argos PS3 80GB with 2 Games and Mega Accessory pack £229.97
I think it has to be a misprint (as opposed to the good ol` internet misprice) and I`d be pretty surprised if Argos honoured it as this offer has be advertised on TV over the last couple of nights at £299.96 (as other posters have said a pretty good price in itself for the package).
Still , if anyone wants to go into Argos with a copy of the Mirror and try it , let us know how you get on :) :)
Edit - Scans of advert (not that great I`m afraid)

RE: Emmerdale and Eastenders Omnibus Recordings needed
I have come across this site in the past but then an invite was needed to sign up.
Just signed up , downloading the individual episodes now so (hopefully) job done :)
Many Thanks
Emmerdale and Eastenders Omnibus Recordings needed
A really naff request , I know , but if anybody has the omnibus editions of Emmerdale and / or Eastenders from this weekend just gone (27th - 28th September) on VHS or DVD I would really appreciate a copy.
It`s not for me really !! :$ :$
I have an ex-pat relative who asked me to keep her supplied with the soaps until her sat system is set up. All has been well until this weekend when my PVR had a hissy fit and missed the recordings.
If anybody has a copy they can supply me , I would of course happily pay postage and media costs. You can contact me by email if you want to retain annonimity ;) - don`t want everybody knowing you record such stuff (us men happily own up to downloading hardcore porn but would never admit to recording Emmerdale).
You guys have helped me out with a recording request before so I thought it was worth a try.
Also , if anybody has any idea where I could download them from (in such a way that I can copy them to DVD - i.e. not Iplayer) , please post.
Cheers :D
Guitar Hero On Tour (DS) £12 - Plus other great game offers In Store
in store at Morrisons......
The offer started today and lasts all week (but the stock won`t , so if you want it - be quick!). Many other DS games (Brain / Sight Training , that Cook Book one for the wife ;) and lots of others usually around £18 - £20 plus ) and Wii Games for £15 including (deep breath) TigerWoods 09 and Wall-E (if that floats your boat) plus many many others. Also , a wide range of PS3 and Xbox 360 games for a slightly less impressive £25 , but that includes the likes of Tiger Woods 09 , so cheaper than most places I would guess.
What`s available may vary from store to store and judging by the number of people taking advantage of this offer in my local store (where we just bought 130 quids worth for me , the family and Xmas pressies - I love a bargain , I just hate paying for it :/ ) the stock will soon be exhausted.
Potential Ebayers beware - offer limited to 1 per title , per person. If you want more than one copy (as we did - 2 copies of Guitar Hero great in Multiplayer mode for two teenagers with a DS each) , take someone else with you.

RE: Sub £40 DVD Recorder with upscaling and HDMI
Quote:
I don`t suppose it plays divx does it??
Sorry for the late response. I got one of these about 10 days ago and have just got around to setting it up and using it. Although it dosen`t say anything on the player or the box about Divx , I have put in a disc of various mpgs , avis , etc (mostly film trailers and converted Youtube stuff) and it played pretty well all of them. Some came up as `file not supported` , but I get much the same results from my Sony recorder and the PS3 , so for the price it don`t seem half bad :)
RE: Sub £40 DVD Recorder with upscaling and HDMI
Quote:
and is it multi region???
I`ve done a Google on the model number and postings on other forums say that it is multi-region out of the box.
Sub £40 DVD Recorder with upscaling and HDMI
.... at Argos.
OK , it`s £39.99 , the description says it is mono output (but I think you can probably take that as a typo) and it`s Wharfdale.
Looks ok for the money to me.
RE: Setanta Sports 2 months for a quid
Promotional Code is 2001 - you don`t need to read the Mirror as the code is mentioned in the Terms and Conditions when you click the Satellite or Freeview customer buttons.
Be quick as the offer closes on Friday.
RE: Columbo - Series 1 for £6.99
Quote:
Blahdvd now have it for the same price, DVD.co.uk a quid more and either of these I would sooner rely on
It seems that 101 and Blah are the same company now. Websites are virtually identical and
a trawl around the 101 help section gives you this where it states
Quote:
Who are we?
101cd.com is owned and operated by Blah Ltd. a Jersey registered company.
I`ve had the same experience with 101 in the past , but generally where they have posted obvious misprices (usually multiple misprices on the same day) and I have lumped in with everybody else , expecting the order to be cancelled and not being disappointed in that expectation. In recent times , however , (since they have been under Blah control) I have picked up a few bargains from them , such as Dumb and Dumber and Dumberer - 2 movies - for 89p (ok , crap films I know , but my kids like them :/ ) and Prison Break Series 2 Part 1 for £12.99.
For the record , ordered Columbo this morning and got despatch email this afternoon.
Nokia 5300 MP3 Mobile Phone , Black , O2 , Free Speakers - £49.99

Takes micro SD cards (available at Play.com from £6.99 for 1GB and £13.49 for
2GB).

RE: Cheaper DVD recorder with HDMI output?
You could try this at Argos for £99.99
Liteon DD-A500GX , HDMI output , DVD+RW and DVD-RW recording , DivX playback and 5.1 output. No experience of it personally , but it seems a pretty good spec for the price.
RE: `svchost.exe` Missing.
I`m no expert , but I have had similar problems in the past so here goes:-
The file svchost.exe should be in the folder windows\system32 on the local (C) drive.
Using Windows Explorer or search , try to locate the file. Assuming you can`t (which would explain why windows reports it as missing :/ ) , there may be a copy in a folder
C:\i386
This folder may well be hidden so you may have to change the options in Windows Explorer to make it visible. If the file is in the above folder , copy and paste it to
C:\windows\system32 and hopefully that will solve the problem.

Tevion DVD-8000 - DVD+R playback problems
I have had a Tevion DVD-8000 DVD player (the one on sale at Aldi at the end of last summer) since the end of last year. I bought it for the HDMI connection / upscaling and the DivX playback. It has been fine until a few weeks ago when I tried playing some of my home produced DVD+R discs (until then I had only used it for original DVDs and DivX files burned onto DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs). None of them play properly. Some play but with substantial break up and some don`t play at all or freeze. All of these discs play ok on my PC and in the other players around the house (Mico DVD Recorder , PS2 , Xbox and Bush TV/ DVD combo). I have used various types of DVD+R and rewriteables with the same results. The curious thing is that using the same type of discs to burn DivX files causes no problems.
I have a Liteon DVD recorder in my PC and the discs are burnt using Nero.
Looking for advice. Will a firmware update help? Are there any settings on Nero I could try?
Any help welcome :)
RE: Lobster 700TV (phone/TV/Dab radio) £50 or less
Just ordered one of these refurbished over the phone for £22.98 including delivery.
Seemed too good to pass up if only for the DAB , putting aside the TV and the more than reasonable phone spec. So thanks to the OP and the guys and gals at MSE for this one.
RE: Nero DVD Menu Question
Quote:
If you play from Chapter 1 won`t it just then play all chapters?
Yep , you are right - I had forgotten that :¦
Not as swish as a `Play All` button , but does the job.
Thanks for your help :)
Nero DVD Menu Question
I`ve just put together a DVD of 5 home movies using Nero and have put a nice menu with animated play buttons on it. :)
Each movie shows a a seperate chapter on the menu.
My question is , does anyone know of a way that I can put a `Play All` option on the main menu using Nero ?
Any help appreciated.

Expires close of play tomorrow (Thurs 19th) - anyone wants it I will send out to the first PM to arrive in my inbox :)
