Anyone Reviewing 4K Discs?

Sue Brown (Elite Donator) posted this on Tuesday, 15th August 2017, 14:10

Having just moved up to the new ultra HD media, are you reviewing these discs yet on Reviewer? Just thought I'd ask. Inevitable in time, some movies will be rereleased in the new format, and I'm hoping to find out if the upgrade will be worth it.

Ta. x

Still alive and kicking. You can't get rid of me that easily!

I was briefly motivated by the prospect of a 4k UHD disc of BladeRunner (on pre-order at Zavvi) before I looked at the Blu-ray and DVD to watch piles, and the size of my living room (no 4k TV worthwhile will ever fit in there).

Then again, I said all this about HD. Probably when the old TV goes bang, I might upgrade.

For what it's worth Sue, I caught about five minutes of Ghostbusters (the new one) on a 4k TV in Currys the other day and it looked awful.

Picture was really clear but it seemed really really obvious that it was blu-screened...

To real?

Somehow I think whilst my next projector might be 4K, I don't think the source material will be so much better that my eyes will tell the difference.

I think it's pretty much at the point of, like 3D TV's where they had it whether you wanted it or not, when you buy a new TV you may as well get 4K.  I have a Samsung KS8000 and it's truly amazing - although I've only watched 2 BD films in 4K - but the upscaling is superb from other resolutions anyway.

No, didn't look real.  Can't really describe it, it just looked awful to my eyes...it was more the SFX than the overall detail...

Like when you watch the original Star Wars on VCR, letterbox on a 14" CRT portable it's fine, but when your mate then gets (what was then) a f*** massive wide screen tv, and puts it on you can see the rectangles round the tie fighters you had never seen before?
