I`ve just recieved The Wicker man from Amazon.co.uk at a cut price £7.99
It has the original version and the director`s cut. This is a great film.
As TotalDVD say ``If you like distinctive movies this will blow your mind``

I got it from Choices last week. I had been looking for it through the summer but it was £20+ most places. It`s not bad for £7.99, but if I`d known what it would be like I wouldn`t have bothered.

It just looks the same as when it`s been on TV, poor picture quality compared to older stuff I`ve got on DVD.

Nothing to get excited about.

Mark.

Nothing to get excited about? It`s the first time it`s been issued in full, that was pretty exciting to me! The reasons for the poor image quality are explained on the DVDs, and also in a recent C4 documentary. For £7.99 you certainly can`t complain, I paid full whack for it when it came out, and it was *still* good value!

Can someone advise re: "poor image quality" I have it on order from play.
I assume it stems from the cameras/film used at the time and the budget available. But what a brilliant, classic film!

The DVD comes with two versions of the film, the UK release version and the restored version. If you watch the UK release version the picture quality is as good as you should expect. If you watch the restored version then the majority of the scenes are of the same quality as the UK release version whilst the scenes that have been restored (and that includes the first 10 minutes or so) are of poor quality because they have been sourced from video. The original negatives and master copies of the full version have been lost (Christopher Lee says deliberately).

£7.99 is an absolute bargain, I got it some time ago with Fight Club Sp.Ed. at HMV on a BOGOF when they were both £24.99.
