RE: sharp 740
As long as you can follow the instructions, you can`t go wrong! Doesn`t matter if you`re new to computers.
I followed the instructions to the letter and mine worked first time on a Reoc A5, which is basically the same hack as the SHarp.
RE: How do i get a quid off at Cd Wow via the Daily Record Link?
If you click the link in your email you should find that all the prices displayed automatically have the £1 off.
Try going to their site by typing in the url, note the prices on the main page then go to the site via the link. You should see they`re different!
RE: Stop subscribing to Sky and move to NTL phone ?
Yes, NTL are good........
Until something goes wrong - then you are on you`re own.
It`s a shame that the products/services are let down by such shoddy customer service.
Stick with Sky and BT.
RE: Stop subscribing to Sky and move to NTL phone ?
I agree with Paull.
I`m in the middle of a dispute with NTL regarding my phone going dead one day for no reason. When I eventually got through to their customer services (on hold for 45 minutes on my mobile) I was told that my phone number didn`t exist and giving them the account number produced the same result. After several phone calls and waiting in for 2 engineers who failed to show up I gave up, called BT and got reconnected to them. The BT guy turned up on time, I kept my number (the one NTL said didn`t exist) and it costs £20 a month inc caller ID, and all my calls at weekends/after 6pm - cheaper than NTL.
I cancelled the NTL direct debit and funnily enough, they`ve miraculously decided that my phone number did exist in order to send a demand and disconnection notice if I don`t pay for it! I can feel a letter to their CEO and Nicky Cambell at Watchdog coming on.
You`ll also find that Sky`s packages work out cheaper than NTL`s last time I looked.
RE: If it`s not split over two sides...
The others are right, there`s 2 types of double sided disk.
The ones I like as as you`ve said - movie on one side, extras on the other OR widescreen one side, normal screen on the other.
However, the REALLY annoying ones are the half of the film on one side, the end on the other. Why oh why? I have a Region2 Face Off that you have to turn over half way through - kinda ruins the non stop action a tad.
RE: Adult supplier - http://www.statesidedvduk.com/
Never tried them. I can however recommend www.fivestardvd.com
The disk my friend "ahem" ordered took 5 days to arrive over the long Bank Holiday - that`s quicker than some of his futureent / play247 orders have taken!
RE: Memento - What the hell did I just watch? ***SPOILER***
Top film!
I agree with one of the other posts. Guy Pearces wife was attacked by someone and as Teddy told him, the trauma/injury of also being attacked and not being able to help his wife caused Guys "condition" - he had already found and killed the attacker previously. Teddy takes advantage of this and gets Guy to go after people he wants out of the way.
The twist was that the story Guy keeps telling everyone about the woman with diabetes who tests her husband, was actually about himself too. After her attack, Guys wife didn`t believe his condition was real and tested him with the diabetes thing. Guy Pearce then accidentally killed her. More trauma for the bloke as her refuses to accept this and turns it into the story he annoys everyone with.
It seems to me that when Teddy reveals the truth to Guy Pearce, Guy doesn`t want to accept it, so writes the "Do not trust his lies, kill him" on the photo. Knowing that in a moment he will forget the truth and kill Teddy thus making him forget that he (Guy) was ultimately responsible for his wifes death - and then have no one to remind him of it.
Presumably he then spends the rest of his life searching for his wifes killer, unknowing/refusing to believe it was actually him.
I think thats it :)

RE: Lights out !!!!! Again!!!
LOL mate :)
I`ll send you my the bill for my therapist :)
RE: Anyone got the DVD Advantage pack from play?
Worth every penny mate!
I`ve not come across anything it won`t play - Region2, Region1 and Region1 RCE disks all seem to work fine.
If you`ve already got a PS2, this is the cheapest way to watch DVDs from different regions without having to buy an actual DVD player :)
RE: Why do studios release films under different titles?
At a Star Trek convention I went to years ago - in my youth - I`m over now :) a production guy was telling us all about the (then) brand new series "Deep Space Nine".
It had apparently been originally called "Deep Space IX", but when they showed the title logo to the top men at the studio said "Looks great, but why Deep Space ix?" - pronouncing it like the ix in weetabix. It was quickly retitled.
RE: black hawk down vs saving private ryan
"Given that it was an American movie about an American beach sector (OMAHA) I am not in ths slightest surprised that there weren`t any British in the movie. May I direct you to the Dambusters until such a time as the British movie industry picks up and begins writing movies about how British spunk and stiff-upper lipness won WW2."
Point taken GruntBoy. I don`t tend to watch "old" movies - forgot about all that!
You are dead right in your assessment of the British movie industry - we don`t seem to be able to release anything worthwhile that isn`t a) a gangster movie or b) has Hugh Grant and an american actress in it!
RE: black hawk down vs saving private ryan
"Black Hawk Down is your typical American cheese, full of too much whooping and God bless America cack. Private Ryan was very moving in parts"
I agree on both points, but I think there was just as much whooping and God bless America in Private Ryan. I`m sure I remember from history at school that the British had something to do with WW2 - did you see anyone but yanks in Private Ryan?
Cinematically both films are great - special effects, acting, directing. I prefer all out action and rate BHD higher - but that`s personal preference.
The films show 2 completely different types of conflict. In WW2 it was clear cut - the bad guys are the Germans over there invading the rest of Europe. In Somalia you couldn`t really tell who the real enemy was - it coulda been anyone in the town.

RE: Cheap Printers, Anywhere?
Check ink prices before you buy! Lexmark are notorious for selling cheap printers then charging twice that for the ink.
If you can find cheaper non branded or refillable ink then go for it, but steer clear of the "official ink".
RE: Sky Satellite Remote
You need to connect the aerial to the second TV to the second RF out socket on the back of the digibox.
There is an option in system setup or somewhere (sorry, can`t remember exactly) thats something like "RF2 power on/off.
As for using the remote to do the TV volume, you need to dig out your digibox instructions. It has instructions and a list of codes for different brands of TV that you can program the controller with - like you do with all-in-one remotes.
RE: Movie trailers
LOL :)
Try the trailers link on http://www.darkhorizons.com and http://www.movie-list.com
RE: <<<<Does anyone like Jackass???!!!!>>>>
It`s awesome!
I liked the Bam getting arrested one too. But my favourites would have to be when Johnny Knoxville got shot with pepper spray, a stun gun and a taser and when they tricked the producer guy into thinking an electric sheep collar was a microphone.
Thanks for the link, I`m off to check it out now.
RE: Cheap Lexmark printer @ www.currys.co.uk(£24.95 inc p+p)
Manufacturers make more money off the ink sales than they do off the actual printers.
Lexmark are known as printer "whores" in the trade since they will do anything pricewise to get the big players like DSG (Dixons Sales Group) to stock them.
Lexmark bank on the fact that if they shift more printers they`ll make even more on consumables.
My advice is buy a cheap printer and refill the inks - so what if it invalidates the warranty. If it explodes eventually, go out and buy a new printer which will come with a new set of consumables.
RE: PS2 DVD REGION X HELP NEEDED.......
I don`t have a PS2, but it sounds like it`s outputting the movie as NTSC rather than PAL - your DVD player probably converts to this.
See if there`s a way to change the output, or if your Sanyo TV can handle NTSC.
RE:
Mine had a metal case with a dent in it! But I`m not too fussy as it was the movie I was after.
As someone said - if it says metal case on the website, you should expect to get it. Unless of course it says "limited edition" in which case they can claim it`s run out.
RE: Code for Region 1 DVD Player
You may hit problems playing PAL disks on a true region 1 NTSC machine.
The way I understand it, our PAL system is superior to the US NTSC system so making a PAL player "lower" ;) itself to play NTSC is easy.
However, to save money a manufacturer of an NTSC player doesn`t need to include the "extra" functionality (costs and all that) of being able to play PAL disks!
I may be wrong, but I would recommend you check it out. Try the Hardware forum.
RE: DVD:Need help on hooking up!?!
Most DVD players will output R1 NTSC DVDs in PAL 60 unless you have it output in NTSC.
PAL 60 is sometimes called pseudo PAL - British PAL is PAL 50. Since you say your TV is ancient it may not be able to handle PAL 60 and almost certainly not NTSC, you are stuffed!
You`ll need to buy a newer TV - all new ones can handle PAL 60 and a lot can even show NTSC too. You could buy an NTSC to PAL convertor, but it will more likely be cheaper to buy a new TV.
Do a search of the forum since there are probably a ton of similar questions that have been asked - there may be a better answer than mine!
RE: OT - Imported PC Games Software -know anywhere?

RE: Army Of Darkness
I`ve got the R1 version. Sounds the same as yours - same cover art.
I`m not a big fan, but enjoyed it at the cinema, so I don`t know about the dialogue changes or breasts (I normally remember stuff like that!).
It does have the 2 endings - original cinema and video release. 16:9 & 4:3 versions. Behind the scenes featurette.

RE: Techtronics?
I didn`t have any problems.
If the aftersales is dodgy, perhaps visiting their shop in person is a good idea (if you are close!). It`s near Peterborough.
Futureent - Am I just unlucky?
OK, story so far. I have been happily purchasing disks from Play247 for a couple of years. Every order that`s in stock always arrives within a week and any forward orders arrive practically on the due out date.
After seeing a couple of posts about Futureent I decided to test them out. My first order was on the website as "normally shipped within 24 hours". After 2 weeks, no joy, so I emailed a copy of my confirmation to find out where it was. It arrived a couple of days later.
Next I ordered 2 cheap DVD`s labelled as usually shipped in 3 to 5 days. 2 DVD`s arrived within a week - I was impressed! But one was the wrong disk with an invoice stating that the other disk I had ordered was to follow shortly - still not here.
I have emailed Futurent and was asked to send back the wrong disk for a refund, so I am waiting for that now.
Summary: 2 orders, 1 late delivery, 1 wrong disk, 1 disk still a no-show.
Is it just me? I read a couple of "Futurent deliver within 30 hours" posts. Yes they are a bit cheaper than Play247, but saving a pound a disk is not really worth the hassle as far as I`m concerned.
I`ll wait to see if my refund arrives or my missing disk (at least I haven`t been charged for it) turns up, but I think I`ll stick with Play from now on.
RE: If u had 2 Grand would U Buy CRT or Back Projection ???
I had the same choice and opted for a back proj Tosh 40".
Colour is good and it just looks sexy sitting in the corner! Supports PAL, NTSC and PAL60 so it plays everything perfectly.
The only thing you have to be aware of is that proj tellys is they can suffer from "screen burn" - a faint image can be permanently burned onto the screen if it shows the same image in the same place for several hours.
You shouldn`t have a problem with normal viewing, but be aware of buying an ex-demo from a shop. It has more than likely been showing MTV 24 hours a day for 6 months and the MTV logo will be burnt into the screen!
