Help!! Samsung DVD811 - Out of Guarantee......

Hi,

I have had this player for about a year, but it has always done this. I first put this down to layer changing but I am not so sure now?

This happens on almost every DVD I play regardless of format or region, after around an hour it starts to Freeze and on some occasions stops completely. I am not sure if it is a heat problem. I cleaned the laser and added some (Sparingly) Graphite Powder to the laser slide rail.

I played a known problem DVD at the problem point for around 10 Mins play..I thought GREAT I`ve cracked it. The following night I decided I would play Spiderman another problem DVD... and after around 1 hour+ playing time..track twenty soemthing it just froze, and reset to the begining of the film. I skipped to the same chapter and when it got to the same point it did it again. I then tried another problem disc i have played many times and it started to freeze as always on the same parts of the film as it always did. (So I have failed miserably)

Has anyone got any ideas on this? Experienced the same problems?

Any advice would be greatfully recieved...

P.S Sorry for the War & Peace, but I wanted to give a good outline of the problem.

Thanks

RE: matrix - another dodgy disc?

I am presuming you have your player set to region free? Try actually setting the player to region 4. You can always set it back.

Just an idea... other that I guess your at a stalemate!

War Films - Release dates... How can I find out?

I am trying to find out if & when some classic war films are likely to be released on DVD. One of them was reputed to be released last month in a magazine I read but no sign of it as yet. The films I would like are:-

2. The Battle of Britain
3. Angels 1,5

I am anxious to find out when these will be available, any region Can anyone help?

RE: Taking bets now - who thinks techtronics will send back a working player ?

Mark, I have found some more interesting data and a link which sets out some details on your rights as a consumer from the DTI.

Check this link out:-

01 - 02 - 2001 Electrical stores pass the buck on faulty goods
Eight out of ten major high-street electrical stores were not prepared to take
responsibility for faulty goods which they might sell, in an investigation for
Which? published today (1 February 2001).

Under the Sale of Goods Act, retailers are responsible for faulty goods - that
is goods which are not `of satisfactory quality` -
for up to six years after purchase (in Scotland the period is five years after
something goes wrong). But, according to Which?,
staff from stores, including Currys, Dixons and Comet and Tempo, wrongly
stated, or implied, that the responsibility lay with the
manufacturer or the customer.

Which? sent undercover shoppers to 12 major UK chains, visiting two branches
of each, with a complaint about an 18-month
VCR that had broken down. In 80 per cent of the visits, staff made it clear
that the problem was nothing to do with them and washed
their hands of it.

Many stores mentioned the one-year guarantee - which had now expired - as the
end of the line for their responsibilities.
This is wrong. Rights under a guarantee are in addition to rights against the
seller under the Sale of Goods Act.

Others were equally adamant the problem wasn`t theirs. At Powerhouse in
Oldbury, West Midlands, a salesperson said:
`It`s nothing to do with us?. we don`t make them.`

At Currys in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, a salesperson made an interesting, but
misguided, analogy to explain why the problem
was nothing to do with the shop: `All we`ve done is sell it to you. It`s like
a house. If suddenly one of your walls fell down, you don`t go
back to the estate agent. Your complaint is with the builder.`

Out of 24 visits, 14 stores took the opportunity to mention an extended
warranty. Five of them claimed that extended warranties
exist for exactly this type of problem. Which? research has shown that, in
general, these are a waste of money with the warranty
costing more than any repairs that may be needed.

Staff in five of the stores visited conceded that, ultimately, the store had
some responsibility for the goods.

When Which? out its findings to the stores head offices, most said that said
that consumers` rights are part of their in-store
training programmes but that they would now take action, either through more
training or by alerting staff about giving correct advice.

Helen Parker, Editor of Which? said:

"When it comes to consumers` rights our investigation shows that many staff
don`t have a grasp of the law."

"We`ll be sending our findings to the Department of Trade and Industry and
pressing for shops to give staff more thorough training.
Stores should also stock leaflets about customers` rights on faulty goods."

[Ends]

Notes

1 Which? visited two branches of each of these chains: Allders, Argos, Comet,
Currys, Dixons, House of Fraser, Index, John Lewis
(including Peter Jones), Miller Brothers, Powerhouse, Scottish Power and
Tempo.

2 The Sale of Goods Act 1979, amended in 1994, says that when you buy goods
from a trader they must correspond with the
description, be of satisfactory quality - which includes lasting a reasonable
length of time - and be fit for the purpose. If the goods
aren`t of `satisfactory quality`, you`re entitled to claim your money back or
to claim compensation, which is normally the cost of
repairs. This lasts for up to six years after you bought the goods - five
years in Scotland. The retailer, not the manufacturer, is
legally obliged to sort out the problem if the goods don`t meet these
requirements.

A manufacturer`s one-year guarantee is in addition to these rights - many
offer free repair or replacement without quibble.
Extended warranties are an extension of this.

goods: your rights as a consumer, which you can order
from its hotline on 0870 150 2500. You can also get advice on its website -

RE: goodmans dvd3000

The crack is:-

With NO DISC in the tray

1. Menu
2. 1,6, 7 a hidden icon will appear
3. Then select your region or press the MUTE for region free. Then the icon will disappear and your away.

Good luck with the machine I had to take mine back for a refund after 3 incedents of picture distortion/freezing and completely locking up!

Picture/Sound freeze on Samsung 811 DVD

Hi all,
Just got myself a Samsung 811 (With 5.1 Decoder). I was wondering if any else has experienced any Picture/Sound freezes. It doesn`t really affect the viewing as such (Only Millisecs) but it is noticable!

It happened a couple of times on Gladiator, and Enemy of the State. Is this something to be concerned about or is it liable to happen on most machines due to this new technology.

It is still under warranty, but I would have to send back to Unbeatable Internet suppliers, I am wondering whether it is worth the hassle or am I being too fussy?

Thanks

RE: Has anyone bought any DVD`s from VCD-Import.Com!!!!!!!

Yes, I bought a copy of X-Men which was quite good,WHEN I GOT IT!!!...

It took around six weeks, and a lot of hassling to get it. I suppose it depends on how bothered you are on waiting. They play fine, only some layer deformation on FF, REW but other than that Pic & Sound quality not bad at all.

I wouldn`t encourage anyone to order from them as cheap as they are, I will not order from them again even though as a gesture of good will they offered me a free one with my next purchase.

My advice is to steer clear. Sorry vcd-import a very unimpressive service!

Perhaps this shoudl be in the Retailers review section, don`t want to be too hard on`em though!

RE: Techtronics - Be warned!

Mark - don`t give up now. Thats what their expecting, you have e-mail, actual letters (which are liablous) and not to mention the support of many other unsuspecting customers.

Never mind the Trading Standards, get that CCJ underway what have you got to lose another £30-40 at most.

tpr007 - Give www.upgradeheaven.co.uk or www.multiregionmagic.co.uk, the latter are a little pricey though!! Out of interest I recently bought a Samsung 811 from www.unbeatable.co.uk, has remote hack works fine at the Mo Sorry Mark, I wasn`t rubbing it in.

RE: Where do i stand against Comet?

Unfortunately, they are very reluctant to refund! they like to enforce there 28 days return policy. After that its a repair normally.

I bought a Goodmans DVD3000 from, I exchanged it twice and had it repaired once, the repair took over 2 weeks so they had to give another one.(Number 3). It then went wrong again and so I demanded a refund. I was not going to go for number 4.

I think I was lucky as I dealt with the same person each time and they could not dispute the problems that I`d had, they were also sympothetic! I had my product for around 4 months.

My advice would be to enter the store on a Saturday (Busy). Then try and grab the manager then calmly explain that this cannot continue and ask about the possibility of a refund under the circumstances. If that doesn`t work then start talking very loud, and if that doesn`t work SHOUT!

At the end of the day they will have to repair it, whatever and if it takes longer than 2 weeks they will have to give you a brand new one.

GOOD LUCK!

RE: WERE IS THE CHEAPEST SITE TO BUY ROAD TRIP?

www.play247.com (Region 2) £14.99 You won`t do better than that, I wouldn`t have thought!

RE: Debiting your Credit Card before dispatching your order??????

Normann, Thats a tricky one. I am sure that by confirming the order you are entering into a legal contract and therefore they are O.K. to debit your card, but obviously oblidged to send you the goods you ordered within fair amount of time (This should be stated when you order).

This happens regularly to me and my goods usually turn up within the next few days, from there point of view there gonna want there money before they send you in most cases!!!!.... I`m sure there`s nothing to worry about.

Have a look at this site (Office of Fair Trading) it tells you a bit about shopping on the internet and Distance Selling Regulations.

Samsung DVD811

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Remote Hack does actually remove the Firmware. The hack on this site suggests it does only I have seen conflicting remarks stating it does not.

Can anyone who has one of these models let me know for sure?

By the way if anyone has one of these and can tell me what they think, I would appreciate it.

Just ordered one from unbeatable.co.uk

RE: 2 into 1 scart block

Hi, I very much doubt whether it will switch automatically it rather depends on just how strong the signal is on SKY verses your machine.

What I can say is that I had a 3 to 1 bought from COMET about £19.99 if I remember correctly. This was not a switchable as such, but you still may have to turn off your SKY box to avoid conflicting signals and overlay which I got with my telewest box. I simply turned the telewest box off whilst watching a movie.

I din`t find it such a drag after all you can`t watch both at the same time!

At least I didn`t have to crawl behind the TV each time as you may have to with a switchable one.I guess thats all you need to avoid

Good Luck

RE: Goodmans Dvd 3000

HI Andy, the Hack you want is.

1. Make sure your tray is empty
2. Press Menu, followed by 1,6,7
3. You can then select any region you wish or simply select the MUTE button for Multi-Region (ALL).

It does work, and by the way hope you have more success than I did, I would advise you use it thoroughly. I have just had to have a refund from COMET after my third one!!!

Sorry, but I may just have been very unlucky, lets hope you are not so unlucky. I encountered Green Stripe distortion and Freezing to which I couldn`t remove the disc without unpluggin and plugging in again. this was generally after about a month of average use.

GOOD LUCK!!!

RE: Need a player, with 5.1 Decoder and Region Free!! I`ve Found one £169.99 COMET

Sammy, I couldn`t find any info either which is why I had to ask for a crack on here. There simply was nowhere to look. All I can say is the one I have is based on a Oritron 200 case with I believe Oritron 600 Technology. I think there may be a review for them somewhere!

As for picture quality, I am very pleased. I actually have Digital Cable and it seems to be on par with that sort of quality.

My friend got stuffed with a cheap daewoo of the net, came round saw my set-up went and bought one from COMET the next night!

RE: Help with Goodmans DVD3000 dvd player

I have the same player! I bought mine from COMET. I have made mine region free. It is really an Oritron 600 something like that.

Anyway try this.

1. Make sure tray is empty! and closed
2. Press MENU.
3. Enter 1,6,7 (This should pop up a menu showing REGION 1-6.
4. You can then either select which region or do as I have HIT THE MUTE this will make it Region Free.

I even tried a region 1 Matrix it just played no hassle. You don`t even have to do this everytime once done it will remain. It may be reset if there is a long term power loss though! So keep this safe if it works.

GOOD LUCK, let me know if it works. sttuocj[at]ku.oc.evreseerf.66tsuj

Need a player, with 5.1 Decoder and Region Free!! I`ve Found one £169.99 COMET

Firstly I have to thank KANDEE for the help hope you read!.

I have recently bought a Goodmans DVD 3000 from Comet. £169.99.

I needed one with a decoder. I thought I would have to dispense with it being Multi-Region.

Fortunately with KANDEE`s help there is a crack that WORKS!!!!.

1. Menu
2. Enter 1,6,7
3. Region 1-6 will appear
4. You could at ths point select the MUTE button for Region Free as I have.

I thought I would then give it the ultimate test I got hold of a Region 1 copy of the MATRIX (i.e This was a Region 2 Player). put it in the player, it played straight away with no problems at all. I then stopped play and changed the disc for a Region 2 (Bugs Life) it chugged away for around 10 seconds then just played. I then switched this for a Region 1 copy of the ANTS and it just played.

FANTASTIC.. I just wanted to let everybody know!!!

Goodmans DVD3000 - Region Crack/Hack? What technology?

Hi folks, just joined this marvellous org. Anyway I have had a complete nightmare trying to find a DVD at an affordable price along with a decoder and multi-region asking a lot I know, but I couldn`t wait to join the world of Hi-Tech any longer!

I did find one at the expense of it not having a Hack/Crack (I Think). COMET £169.00 GOOD I THOUGHT... I did investigate first, there simply wasn`t a product to cover all this at my pocket. Anyway works O.K. my Aiwa Z-Ht530 really kicks out the Dolby 5.1 sound, but can anyone help with a crack, hack etc? Does anyone know what Components Goodmans use in their machines? Could I try some hacks from other machines? Will the Aiwa controller methods Work? I have a couple of them I could try.

Anyone Any Ideas, I would appreciate.

THANKS.. P.S. Sorry for the long message..
