I have the same player! I bought mine from COMET. I have made mine region free. It is really an Oritron 600 something like that.
Anyway try this.
1. Make sure tray is empty! and closed 2. Press MENU. 3. Enter 1,6,7 (This should pop up a menu showing REGION 1-6. 4. You can then either select which region or do as I have HIT THE MUTE this will make it Region Free.
I even tried a region 1 Matrix it just played no hassle. You don`t even have to do this everytime once done it will remain. It may be reset if there is a long term power loss though! So keep this safe if it works.

Thanks alot pal your a genius. I am not entirely sure whether it has worked as i have no region 1 dvds yet but it appears to have worked. I also got my player from comet. When you watch reg 1 dvds did they appear in black and white cos thats what people have been saying. Thanks for the help

the reason why they play in b/w is that your tv is not ntsc compatible!!
