RE: Any thoughts on Sony Picot dvd player
Thanks - best picture quality isn`t a major priority - it will be used 90% of the time to entertain my kids when my mum looks after them.
Re the scart - if it doesn`t have one how would I connect to their tv? (I thought everything had scarts these days)
Any thoughts on Sony Picot dvd player
I`m thinking of buying one of these for my parents for xmas - the size and ability to move it when they don`t want to use it are major benefits.
I also want it to be easy use and to hook up to a scart etc, as I get enough calls from them about digibox/ vhs problems already!
Any opinions gratefully received
Moose
Suggestions please new dvd player must play svcd multi region
Hi
I would appreciate any suggestions for a player to replace an eclipse 595 - must play svcd`s burned on cdr and be multi region. Budget upto £400 (and ideally available from richer sounds who will give me £80 for the eclipse if buy something else from them)
picture quality is important as my ps2 is better for play back than the eclipse at the moment (but the ps2 won`t play svcd`s)
TIA
Moose
PS2 dvd performance
I`m about to buy a ps2 mainly for gaming but also as a 2nd dvd player for the kids (big and small) playroom.
Any clues as what the quality of playback is like - seems like good value at 218 inc a game for a console and player.
TIA
RE: DREAMCAST OR PLAYSTATION 2? U DECIDE!
dreamcast is now available for below £100 (99 in Cambridge Game store) so get a dc and a dvd player, then let the kids play the dc on a portable and you can watch a film on the decent tv
RE: Best (cheap!) machine without macrovision?
toy car
thanks for the list of discs that won`t play on my Eclipse.... WRONG
I have 40 discs and have rented 40 more in the 6 months I`ve owned it and it hasn`t had any problems at all with any disc. Its also taken a hammering from my 15 month old son and so far has escaped without problems. All disney disc`s play without problem.
Perhaps the lack of postings about this machine (which is available from a high street shop and not from a lock up in Bolton) suggests that it really doesn`t have many problems, also RS provide a 3 year warrenty foe 20 quid with loan player if it needs repair and no I won`t have to lose a day`s pay waiting for a drop & pick!
RE: Heard of these brands of DVD?
then this machine must be orange with a dirty great sign slagging lots of big companies off and a bloody great fone no.
I would be worried about buying anything from letsbuyit.com as they appear to be on the brink of perpetual failure each week. I wouldn`t expect any ciustomer support at all.
RE: Best (cheap!) machine without macrovision?
eclipse 595 from richer sounds. 159 no macro multi region and dts and dd 5.1 outputs.
records to vhs out of the box and plays r1 r2 and r4 plus disney etc with no problems.
had one since oct with no problems and no firmware updating
RE: What is the best and worst extra(s) you have ever watched ?
the crap at the start of all the disney dvd`s..... spend 15 quid to sit through 10 minutes of s***ty video`s each time yeah right.
RE: DTS bother
Connections are coaxial to the processor.....
I take it you are talking about a digital coax lead, using normal l & r coaxial phono leads won`t give you any dts sound or dolby digital either.
If you are using digital then check the player setup and the disc audio options.
RE: SC-2000 FW 2.14 -> 2.33
If you`re happy with the player don`t upgrade.
Like a pc`s bios only flash it if you need to.
Also if your current player developes a fault a replacement will most likely have the new firmware preinstalled.
RE: Lets get Bear out of here.
The Moose says salute the Bear...
Lifes too bloody short to be upset over postings on a forum.
Go and watch a DVD, open a beer and chill out. Lets face it if in his opinion Scan sucks then so what, Scan owners obviously know better and good luck to them.
If the hardware forum wasn`t full of scan owners moaning about crap playback, mp3 filenames, macro, late deliveries, hanging on the phone for support whilst the sales line is always answered, asking where Nelley`s gone etc etc he wouldn`t have so much ammo.
Stop moaning or take the postings in good heart.
RE: www.dabs.incompetent
never ordered a dvd player from them but did buy most of the parts for my pc which I built last summer from them
If it was in stock I got everything next day. Since then I`ve used them for a lot of gear with no problems.
I think with most of these retailers if it ain`t in stock don`t order it. I`ve had similar problems with a hard drive from insight.com and bits from jungle.com which were delayed and delayed until I cancelled the order.
RE: MP3 Playing....WHY?
why would anybody listen to an mp3 through a hifi.
They sound like s*** - at best like compressed FM radio...
MP3 is not hifi and as a format sucks.
If you want decent music stick to cd or sacd through a decent cd player.
RE: do s video carry sound
no s video is video only
use phono cables for the sound
RE: ezydvd.com.au and shipping times
4 working days - only used them twice so far but both deliveries were quick.
Also both were for 30 odd quids worth (3 dvd`s) and no custom charges.
Also the price on site gets reduced when you order to take of the OZ vat
www.disc-n-tape.co.uk/
ordered 2 discs from this company on Tuesday got them today (2 days and no postage)
Buzz Lightyear 11.99
MI 2 12.99
these were not special offers just great prices and inc delivery.
Can really recommend them - not the biggest (hand written envelope) but bloody good service.
Hope they survive and prosper.
RE: Is Nelley still on the planet?
Come on Nelley stop phoning the far east and help this guy .... he`s a customer....................not a beta tester.
RE: Sony The perfect DVD Player NOT!
I`m not defending sony but.....
Ok the biggest (or one of the biggest) suppliers of dvd players in the world and you produced a big list .. well done.
Now take Scan (which I`m guessing you may have), a small uk company importing a beta product (hey guys just test version 99.99999 firmware for us and any problems will be sorted next week with version 999.999999999) and the posts on this site alone would be 4 or 5 times this size, Sony do make quality products - some have problems - most do not ( and no I don`t have a sony I have a cheapo eclipse from RS which I`m very happy with)..
So whats the point of listing the faults like that - unless you can help people why enjoytheir problems.
Now where the Bear?
RE: Sony-HTK-215 Home Theatre Kit. Does it have DTS?
Have no idea how they compare..... although my guess is they are very similar as the price is only £50 different
I was on route to buy a videologic dts set up but then saw the sony and was sold on it.
One thing that is crap is the various theatre modes - although I`ve never been a fan for anything that effects the sound by enhancing it!
RE: Sony-HTK-215 Home Theatre Kit. Does it have DTS?
yes it does have dts and dd
Gladiator sounds fantastic selecting dts output.
Basically this set up is fantastic, I brought the 215 rather than 315 on looks and size. The amp has a stand so you can sit it on its end to save space.
RE: Has any One got a Multi Region Hack For the Eclipse DVD 595
ensure no disc is in the machine
then it`s 7 7 & select.
it broings up the menu with all manner of options- multi region is 13 or you can select the region you want. Mine was set to multi region when I brought it so you may not have to change anything.
Still looking at the date on your post I guess you`ll have the answer now anyway!
RE: THE PHANTOM MENACE!!!!!!
1 s*** film = 3 disc`s .......... it`s a strange old world.
God knows how crap the unused footage must be judging by the bollocks they actually showed!
RE: HOW PURE ARE YOU? (Take the DVD Reviewer Purity Test)
got 47%
would spending over a grand on an amp make me purer or poorer?
Tesco recalling warfedale TV`s
This may all ready have been posted but in the Daily Telegraph today it is reported that Tesco is recalling thousands of warfedale 28" widescreen tv`s also sold by Scottish Power as Naiko.
Apperently you should turn them off imediately as they can catch fire!
You have been warned
RE: WWW.EZYDVD.COM.AU/
ordered the 3 good the bad and the ugly discs from them on Sunday....
Arrived today and only cost £9.50 per disc plus a total of 3.00 postage.
I will order more from them and can certainly recommend the service.
Absolutely fantastic.
RE: SCAN 2000 - Whites too bright...whites look
come on Nelley
surely the question is what would you do all day without having to answer these posts!
RE: Sony HT-K215 - any opinions please.
err.... perhaps you should have asked for opinions before buying one!
Anyway there`s plenty of posts in this forum about it, basically I`ve had my set up for a month and think its great - does everything I wanted and speakers sound great, not a fan of the various surround modes but it really is excellent on dts and dd disc`s
RE: Bear....In here>>>>
At least one forest fan has good memories of Jason Lee................
RE: widescreen vcr?
me thinks lesson to be learned....
Don`t buy a vcr of a mobile phone shop
