PS2 dvd performance

Moose (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 30th November 2001, 15:01

I`m about to buy a ps2 mainly for gaming but also as a 2nd dvd player for the kids (big and small) playroom.

Any clues as what the quality of playback is like - seems like good value at 218 inc a game for a console and player.

TIA

The PS2 (US/European model) uses the same dvd decoder chipset that was used in the Wharfdale 750.

Er, no it doesn`t. It just so happened that the PS2 suffered from incompatibilities with discs that the dear old Wharfie 750 also had trouble with, so people jumped to conclusions that it used the same chipset.
