RE: why R0 DVDs are so cheap???

Why do you need to go to e-bay for Hong Kong region 0? You`ll most probably find them cheaper at a HongKong e-tailer such as http://www.dddhouse.com or http://www.hivizone.com , new.

RE: Gameboy Advaced - Personal Import?

Haven`t used them before, but http://www.lik-sang.com seems to be a favourite with quite alot of people. Although it`d be wise to check out other peoples opinions first.

"I`ve just checked this site out and it looks really good but where can I go to get information like reviews on these R3 films? All the sites deal with R1 and 2!"

lookee at http://www.asiandvdguide.com (I`m sure I recommended http://www.dddhouse.com ageeeesssss...... ago in here these forums. Oh well...)

Johnny and co at DDDhouse are great, prompt on replying to e-mails.delivery within 10 days (customer service is great IMO), mark the package down. I personally ordered 7 discs in one package and was marked down as gift and low value, he also doesn`t put the company name on the package, return address is his home address.

Oh. And chaps and chappesses, check out he forum at http://www.asiandvdguide.com. You`ll all learn a bit from there. ;)

RE: 3 for 2 @ WH Smith - better offer coming up!

So that would mean I can continue my amassing of HKL titles. :) Thanks for the tip.

RE: dvdsilvers.co.uk

DVD-roms cost the same as cd-roms. It`s just the overheads that producers of them have applied to substain the machiney in their plants. Youre abe to buy these DVDs for a tad over £1 in the tiger countries.

RE: woolworths awful treatment of dvd

What about Blockbusters. They do it on new discs (i.e.Snatch), and further enhance ex-rentals ("add a few more scatches here and there. Ah... the customer doesn`t know the difference"). And the staff look right miserable.

RE: boxset`s buffy and x-files. cheapest priced. any region

Scaramanga there was at least a few hours early on that one. Isn`t that against the law :D ? The funniest gag I get is the prices at B&M stores. My sides were split when I walked into GAME today.

RE: `All` Region DVDs

I guess from either Malaysia, China or Taiwan. And they sell for in the region £1 in these countries (you need to haggle though. Sometimes).

RE: Are you buying just for the sake of buying?

yes!!! :D Although I do make sure I buy films that I will watch again (out of my collection I have only 3 which you couldn`t make me watch again, but altogether they cost a fiver a piecewhich I`ll off load to someone sooner or later ). I don`t want to rent as I`d rather spend hat money on a decent disc (Hong Kong discs don`t cost too much more than a rental and you get to keep them. And they are always worth watching again IMO).

RE: boxset`s buffy and x-files. cheapest priced. any region

Buffy seems to be cheapest from http://www.chaosmusic.com , http://www.dvdcrave.com.au and http://www.ezydvd.com.au on r4. Someone was saying Buffy season 1 was £15 from dixons (yeah, I`ll believe it when I see it). Dunno about x-files though. I`ve lost my appetite of it.

RE: Who out there has the most DVDs?

You go along to the forums at http://www.dvdtalk.com and some of the amounts some of those loons have go into the thousands. I`ve only a paltry hundred plus. After 8 months (think that`s right). Blazingmonga, that is quite an achievement. How do you keep yourself from buying a shedload?

me? you too? we`re f**ked :D

Totally agree on the two posters view, but I have gotten films which I don`t think too much of for little more than a DVD rental, therefore I don`t really look at the shelf and go "oh. What have I done? I`ve created a monster of crap films and discs, how am I suppose to get rid of them?". Have to admit I`ve got rid of a few discs recently, but in truth, not a lot, and even if I`ve traded in some, I`m gonna get them back again, but some time in the future.

"I think there`s a lot of that isn`t-it-cool-I`ve-got-my-own-top-quality-copy-while-everybody-else-has-to-rent-the-tape with day and date DVD releases here, and certainly more than a degree of swank when you can come home with friends to watch a movie on tv that "ordinary mortals" have to queue at the cinema for."

That happened for my purchase of CTHD, Snatch and Way of the Gun, but I`m gonna make sure I watch them from time to time.
I never had the money for he VHS and LD collecting faze, but as I do now, i`m collecting all the films I`d enjoy (and some for the ovelty :) ) , and actually revisiting films from the past (on VHS i`d always opt for new films, now I`m willing to watch old films.

I`ll end it here before it get`s out of hand, but I do buy for buyings sake, but in a good way. When the studios release films that fit my critera, I`ll get it.

RE: DVD`S FOR £1 EACH

Yeah, ow bro was back there, but he knows his stuff and said that they were all pirates. The legit stuff like Fist of legend and Drunken Master 2 was soo elusive that he had to give up. Nowhere sold legit stuff he said. However the knock offs will usually take out the extras, because they will be single sided, single layered instead of dual layered.

RE: THE GIFT

Just found out a date. It`s going to be (well maybe, according to someone working for paramount) July (probably might slip, but it`ll be around then).

RE: DVD Addiction? me? no... it`s all that avaliable porn ;)

Probably don`t spend as much as other people with 100 disc collections (half cost less then £6. They are Hong Kong discs), the rest are either 2nd hand, ex rents, or just me being jammy and haggling a new disc for a cheapish price (The Cell cost me £10 fer new :)). So I`m looking at less than a grands worth of DVDs in my collection. Me, I work for my parents take-a -way, get cash through that (so doesn`t really run into my student loan, but still I have to slow down. methinks)

to prepare yourself when watching CTHD...

-Do not watch a martial arts film for a whole week in advance
-Have a open mind, yes Superman can fly, so can they !
-Put on your reading glasses as you don`t want to see how bad Michelle Yeoh`s mandarin is
-Have a good sound setup
-A large screen (the largest in the house, not on one that you put in the bog)
-Do not dwell about the plot midway through the film, especially during the quite moments, you`ll find bad points that way,. During these moments look at the anamorphic print and gasp in awe. You`ll quicky dispense of the need to ridicule.
-Make sure that you have had plenty of sleep before hand (8 hours minimum) or you will be bored to sleep during the slow scenes.
--Do not read any reviews or features or take in the hype.
If anthing watch a really bad film beforehand if you want full enjoyment.
-Watch it with the family.

Some points that should benefit you more than me.

RE: CTHD (again!)

£21 isn`t that dear, especially new. People on Ebay have been trading it for nearly double that (might have aswell), but you go along to dvdforum and offered it for £25, they`d be interest (and the people there usually exchange for a low price, so you can see how elusive this is). Mines cost £21 from dddhouse (when you check your CC bill). You can always wait for the region 1 version (going to be getting that aswell. And this is someone that hought it was only good). You want to save money, wait. I think it was June/may release. and hen it should be around £14/5 peodered.

it`s like crack whores monthly :)

I want to cut down but ever since last week when I stumbled accross the classifieds at... ahem... dvdforum....(mod. delete if you want). I can`t really stop it :o . Probably calm down once the parents are back from holiday though. (thank god)

www.dvdpopcorn.com?

They`re still giving out free popcorn? Some people, I forget here were going on that they weren`t. Prices are decent, although I aint used them before/yet. Free popcorn`s always good :)

I go insane in the membrane for em.

18 months to get 100 discs? You should be embarresed about that (OK, that was a joke, but that isn`t addiction, although your buying aound 1/2 per week) :)
Must admit my outlay is dangerously high (for a UNI student), I`m averaging on 16 per month (I`ve only owned a DVD player for 6 months), never did this to VHS. I think Blockbusters have to blame on this :D they charge a high rental price, a short rental period, and I say to myself wouldn`t it be better to spend that money on a disc for keeps?
Also the fact that DVDs are cheaper than VHS this time last year. Remember when VHS, the new titles costed £16-£20+? I avoided like the plague (and anyhows our mam would`ve kicked sh*t out of me).

I`ll end it ere then. Anyone else got a rant? Conspiracy?

RE: What are best british based dvd sites that sell r1 disks

http://www.ringos.co.uk also offer offers (doesn`t look right, doesn`t it?). Tenner each (depends on whether they have the title in stock), they charge £1 delivery, but if you order more than 3 discs, it`s free delivery. Although you may detest phoning, especially only between 11-5 on weekdays. The CS is good, and best of all, order before 3 (I think that`s right), they`ll put effort into making it next day delivery. Critereons are cheap (that`s my opinion) for a operation working in the UK.

RE: THE GIFT

You want to pause at the part where Katie Holmes shows her baps ;-) Yeah, me too. But this was a very recent film. Give it another 4/5 months (eleased only around 2 months ago in the states), you filthy bugger ;-D

RE: ultimate dvd

Did people know there`s a oop demonstration disc going around for $200-300 . I think it was being sold at ebay . Some people have more money than sense. You just wonder without that sense, would we all be richlke some idiots that go around flashing money.

Go on Boro! Go on Boro! Go and eff yourselves up!

Haven`t been pestered with the football for the past 3 weeks, and what happens? The footy team out front (riverside) g oand get themselves into back in to the friggin relegation scrum hole, like they seem to enjoy it. I think I`ll go round Gibbo`s and slap him oun the chops for keeping with Robbo for that long.
Yer all got better teams to support, so be happy about that. The only highlight in our area is a scrappy relegation battle. Ho hum >:(

Ooo... do I have to put something here? :-) www.ringos.co.uk

Dealt with this one man and his wife company on thursday, got Way of the Gun on their offers page. It may not allow you to order on the site, but the CS is great (although Mister Ringo`s wife had problems with my name :) )
Arrived the next morning in the post. Proper chuffed, cheap on the offers and Critereon discs, speedy delivery. Should have some offers still avaliable for £11 (including delivery). Critereons are £25 (although SotL is around £27ish) which are great prices.
They reply to E-mails speedily.
Right, I`m off to wallow in the discs I got this week.
Respect and peace in a rilly silly way.

RE: cool britannia

I haven`t used them, but I think (reading from various posters), they do alter their pricing policy around. Quite a load of people seem to be doing similar. The guy that sold me the Scream Trilogy got all his choices as the boxset, he sold half of them off at £25 and the rest seems to be going to auction (where he should be able to milk some punter).

RE: Aliens 4-disk set

$h*te! that`s the cheapest I can get it for. Ah well, wait until monday to see the situation with ASDA.

RE: Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2 pre-order.

I think when I checked at Jungle they had a timer type thing (countdown). It read (I think. But then I`m too lazy to go and check) 8x days. Oh well, it is a pre-order, and they don`t charge you until delivery :) , yeah, and you can cancel if you want. (just said what I said above)

Poundland? It`s called Poundstretchers here

They aren`t Amaray, but the whole design is. It lacks the "Amaray" and "DVD" imprint`s, but the prices for them are cheap.
Poundstretchers were having a mini sale, buy 6 packs for the price of 5 (I.e. pay £5 and you get a free £1 item), comes in at just under 17p each.

RE: Which dvd has the best extra features?

http://www.ringos.co.uk will sell Armageddon for £26. That`s a good price IMO. Got Chasing Amy for £18, I have to save up as my CC`s gone haywire over the past 4 days. You have to phone them, but they know their stuff. Order before 3 PM (well I ordered at 2), on a business day, they`ll have it on your door the next day if they have it in stock. They say that they`ll be getting the SOTL`s critereon in for £25-27 , don`t know about that. But if you know your stuff, their critereons are as cheap as you get for next day delivery (again, before 2PM IMO).
They don`t have a online order form because they are a one man and wife outfit. (hope that helps a bit)
Although movietyme, I think have it for the same/cheaper price, theres now an alternative.
