anyone actually bought from these people.???????
How many time`s in how many forum`s are you going to keep looking for an answer to your question?? :-))) why not give try, they are cheap and report back your finding`s.
ok but this is the first time i have ever asked this question!!!
"For as long as i have my questions to ask, i will always look for my answers were i feel i shall gain the greatest insights." as written in "Why the hell not!" by Casey Kassidy
be careful of these people, as theyre a `pirate` company.
enjoy your shackles.....
And it only cost them £1 to make them!!!!
The pirate discs they sell are £9 each! Maybe it`s worth it if you *have* to have Star Wars on DVD and don`t care about the quality.
However, I find it unbelievable that anyone would pay £9 for an inferior knock-off copy of a commercial DVD, when you could get the genuine article from somewhere like EzyDVD for just a couple of pounds more. DVD Silvers seem to be profiting from ignorance more than anything else.
Mike
I use them all the time but as this is my first post it doesn`t carry any weight. They are pressed grade A DVD`s of very good quality and well presented, and have all the film extras. They are region 0.
Some points of interest-
Re-"And it only costs £1 to make them"...Where can you buy a spindle of DVD`s @ £1 per disk ?
Re-"profiting from ignorance"...If you are commenting on a product that you appear to have no knowledge of, then this could be ignorance perhaps ?
Re-"enjoy your shackles"..."they may take you down with them"...and suggestions that the FBI will come and smash your front door down seem to be bordering on the hysterical. You guys need to calm down a bit!
I suppose your CD burners only get used for backing up your personal files from your hard drive...NO...I didn`t think so! So come off the moral high ground a tad,and don`t get so paranoid!.... But just to be on the safe side hide all your region 1 films in case some one from the major distributors thinks you are trying to rip them off (yea it was a personal import)
Enjoy CARTER
Hi Carter, welcome to DVD Reviewer`s forums
I think that whilst I agree that `piracy` goes on a lot more than people care to admit (and that includes video-taping your DVDs for your mates). However, that does not make it right.
Personally, anyone who is making a profit out of bootlegging (which DVD Silvers obviously are) is breaking the law - they are selling counterfeit goods to a market that is obviously quite willing to pay it. The black market continues to thrive (eg duty free booze, fags, knocked off perfume, fake designer clothes - seen it all in my TSO days) and if people are willing to be ripped off, then the counterfeiters are laughing all the way to the bank.
If people are gullible enough to be taken in by organisations such as DVD Silvers, then all well and good. I agree that the idea of the Feds bursting in on you is ludicrous, as Carter notes. But the fact of the matter is if you buy counterfeit goods then you are just as guilty as the counterfeiter in the eyes of the law.
At the end of the day it`s the law-abiding citizens who end up paying for these dodgy scams, because lost revenue by the studios inevitably means poorer quality goods from them, or price hikes. Admittedly, the studios make ridiculous amounts of profit anyway, but counterfeiting gives them a legitimate excuse to put a levy on their products that the good guys will fork out for.
Just my five-bob`s worth...
I`ve seen enough of these pirate discs to know that, no matter how well-packaged and professional they look, they are *not* of the same quality as the equivalent commercial releases. It stands to reason that to fit an entire dual-layer commercial DVD onto a single-layer pirate pressing requires either a drastic reduction of bitrate, or the loss of some or all of the extras. If people knew that they could buy real DVDs for as little as £12 or £13, they would never bother with the pirate versions at £9 (except, possibly, bootlegs of unreleased films like Star Wars).
I have no sympathy for the studios or retailers in this matter, however. The ludicrous concept of region coding, the insistence upon maintaining the outdated practice of "staggered" releases, and the insane overpricing of DVDs in the UK high street... all of these things have heightened the appeal of Region 0 pirates among those less knowledgeable folk who own Region 2 only players, and don`t know about the internet or about multi-region hacks. That`s what I meant about profiting from ignorance.
For those people, DVD buying isn`t a choice between buying a R1 now from DVD Box Office or getting the R2 from Blackstar at a later date. It`s a choice between buying a dodgy R0 from Jimmy at the market or getting a overpriced R2 from HMV in a few months - and frankly, the dodgy R0 looks a lot more appealing under those circumstances.
Finally, if studios actually had the temerity to increase DVD prices to "compensate" themselves for imaginary "losses" sustained due to piracy - a situation which has largely arisen from their own stupidity and short-sightedness - then I think I`d be tempted to join the bootleg crowd too.
I may be a "good guy", but as Ash says in Army of Darkness - "I ain`t THAT good."
