RE: The worst 100 films of the last 10 years - according to RottenTomatoes` rating system

I`ve seen 5 films on the list

- Boat Trip (Watched it on Sky years back before I was really into films - reading reviews online and in mags - so had no idea how bad it was.)
- Deck the Halls (I actually liked this. Although I like pretty much all Christmas films so maybe that`s not saying much. I think I`m just in such a happy, forgiving mood that I can accept any rubbish)
- Corky Romano (ended up watching this on BBC one night a while back and it was absolutely awful! So bad that it was fascinating, I just couldn`t switch it off)
- Christmas with the Kranks (see Deck the Halls)
- Zoom (Watched it as I like Tim Allen. Wasn`t great but wouldn`t say it was bad enough to be on the list. Does look really bad though compared to Sky High)

And quite proudly I can say that I own the #5 film on the list, "Gold Diggers." Bought it from Woolworths for £1! :D because I used to love Will Friedle from Boy Meets World. Never got round to watching it though

RE: Watchable chick-flicks

I have to admit to loving loads of chick-flicks! And at the risk of having my Man Card taken away here are some of my favourites, most of which I own (and yes I know there are some really embaressing ones in there! :D )

Enchanted
You`ve Got Mail
Sleepless in Seattle
What Women Want
While You Were Sleeping
Miss Congeniality
Never Been Kissed
Music and Lyrics
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (depends on the chick)
Yes Man
Definitely Maybe
Overboard
50 First Dates
Hitch
10 Things I Hate About You
The Wedding Singer
13 Going on 30

And finally one of my favourite films of all time - The Princess Bride

Also at the cinema just now 500 Days of Summer is excellent.

RE: Top 10 movies of 2008

Like a number of other people have mentioned my list will probably change a lot over time as for one reason or another I have missed so many films this year - No Country for Old Men, Sweeney Todd, There Will be Blood, Burn After Reading, Hellboy II etc. Hell I think I`m the only person who hasn`t even seen The Dark Knight yet!

So pretty much every film I`ve seen makes the list, only a few missing out

1. Wall-e (by a long, long distance!)
2. Iron Man

and then after that the rest aren`t in any order

King of Kong
Yes Man
Inkheart
Tropic Thunder
Get Smart (yes I actually really liked this even if not many other people did)
Indiana Jones...
Journey to... 3D (only for the great 3D really)
X-Files - I Want to Believe

and a special mention for the wonderful Enchanted. Even though I didn`t see it at the cinema until 2008 it came out at the end of 2007 so just misses out

RE: Has Brendan Finally found his next `Mummy`?

I`ve been a big fan of Fraser for years, also since I first saw George of the Jungle. Other films of his I like include - the Mummy films, Blast from the Past, California Man, Airheads, Bedazzled, Monkeybone, Looney Tunes Back in Action and Journey to the Centre of the Earth

Quite a few of the films there (Bedazzled, Monkeybone etc) aren`t really that good but Fraser`s charm makes them enjoyable

And I also loved his apperances on Scrubs.

As for Inkheart I`ve been waiting for it for a while now. It was originally scheduled to be released quite a few months ago but got pushed back

RE: Xmas Fun. Create your own Indie rock album cover!

Tadami Line`s second album, Propheices Seem Laughably Conservative

RE: Pixar short films

The 8th of October was the original release date but the date has now been pushed back until sometime in 2008.

No reason has been given as to why but I`ve seen some people suggest it has been delayed so that the new release date will coincide with the release of Ratatouille.

RE: Sci Fi Mags

I`ve got to say I`ve not bothered with any of the other magazines, I`m very happy with SFX. Have been for years

I wasn`t keen on Sci Fi Now and only bought the current one for the Quantum Leap article and the freebie

Is the Quantum Leap article any good? I love Quantum Leap and if the article is worth it I`ll need to keep an eye out for the mag

RE: Miami Vice S1 £9.99, Bionic Women S1 £9.99

If possible I`d maybe pick up Miami Vice. Was this a big huge superstore you saw them in or just a normal-sized Morrisons store?

RE: DVD`s DVD`s ....do you ever watch `em twice?

Apart from a handful of films for the most part I haven`t watched my DVDs more than once. Hell there are maybe 50-75 at least which I have never watched. Got some from a year or two back I`ve not got round to watching yet

And TV shows can take me months and months, even a year or more to get through.

I know I have way too many DVDs but I can`t stop buying them and still got huge lists of DVDs I want

RE: An audience with Billy Conolly - Network DVD

Quote:
Just by chance i ordered this from sendit.com this afternoon for £1.99.
I will let you know what it`s like when it arrives.

Are you sure the £1.99 DVD is the uncut version? Doesn`t seem like it.

It says it is the cut version and the other DVD at £5.89 has cover art saying that it`s the full uncut version

RE: STAR TREK 1 - 10 BOX SET £48.97

Yeah I too just got my £10 refund through this morning.

RE: STAR TREK 1 - 10 BOX SET £48.97

The price is now down to £38.97! Can`t believe it was possible for them to put it lower but there you go

RE: ROCKY 6 - OPINIONS (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

I`ve got to say I absolutely loved it. There is just nothing like a Rocky film, it gets you pumped up and just leaves you with a silly grin on your face. I loved how many old touches there were, little references to the previous films

Although I have to say even if it was an awful film I`d probably still have loved it just for the fact that I actually got to watch a Rocky film on the big screen! I am pretty obsessed with the Rocky films and never imagined I`d have been able to watch a Rocky film in the cinema

Even though we`ve still got Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3 and a bunch of others coming it will be hard to top Rocky Balboa for my favourite film of the year.

And one day I do plan on going to Philadelphia to run up the Rocky Steps

RE: So - what was your favourite movie of 2006??

Well the best film I`ve seen this year would be between Brick or Pan`s Labyrinth, with Pan`s probably edging it.

But my favourite film, the one I could watch the most, would probably be Pirates of the Caribbean 2, followed maybe by The Matador. I`m sure that I am forgetting about absolutely loads though

Also missed quite a few I was desperate to see like Little Miss Sunshine and not seen Casino Royale or Borat yet

How can I email Play?

Does anyone know how to email play.com now or is it not possible? I tried emailing their old address (ofni[at]moc.yalp) but was told it was no longer active and their helpdesk is pretty hopeless

RE: Samsung v5600 vcr/dvd combo

Has anyone been able to get this to work? I`ve been trying for a while now and it`s just not happening

RE: Spiderman 3 Trailer

Trailer looks pretty good but was anyone else a little disappointed by some of the CGI? Some of it was fine but at other bits it looked a bit dodgy and fake I thought

Looks sort of like the quality you get in cut scenes on computer games but not the quality seen in film

I`m hoping that just like one of the early King Kong trailers the effects shown are not quite done yet

RE: Recommend me some top US TV Shows....

I don`t download shows and seeing as they`re not on TV yet no they don`t make the list. A mixture of not having the time and never getting it to work right for whatever reason when I tried in the past means I don`t download so I have to wait

RE: Recommend me some top US TV Shows....

I know I`m repeating a lot of shows already mentioned but here are all the current US shows I`m watching at the minute. First of all here are the ones I think have been mentioned which I just want to agree with

House
Grey`s Anatomy

Cold Case
Without A Trace
CSI - the 3 shows

Stargate
Stargate Atlantis
Town Called Eureka
4400
Smallville

Desperate Housewives
Lost
Prison Break
Veronica Mars

My Name is Earl
Scrubs
Entourage
Arrested Development
Curb Your Enthusiasm

And now some I don`t think have been mentioned

How I Met Your Mother - A very funny show with a likeable cast
American Dad - Only seen the first season but enjoyed it
King of the Hill - A great and unfortunately very under-rated animated series
Two and a Half Men - Not always the smartest of shows but very funny
That 70s Show (now finished) - Sort of died in the last season with major cast changes but up till then a great show with some great characters

Boston Legal - A fantastically funny show. James Spader is brilliant!
Bones - Wasn`t sure about it at first but really got into it in a big way and looking forward to the new season starting on Sky One this week

Threshold - Cancelled in its first season which really disappointed me, felt it could have gone places

And a couple that are very different from anything mentioned, both can be found on Discovery

Mythbusters - Just about my favourite show on TV right now
American Chopper

Oh and what is Nip Tuck like? I saw the first few episodes and really liked it. I then lost track of it really, is it worth trying to pick it back up?

RE: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang: Any good?

I absolutely love the film, definitely one of my favourites of the last few years. Very clever and funny, Downey Jr and Kilmer are both fantastic. There are also a couple of great classic scenes in there, especially the russian roulette scene :D

RE: Another Santa Clause

I think it looks like it will be quite good fun to be honest. I thought the first Santa Clause is now a bit of a Christmas classic while the second was decent. And when it comes to Christmas films I will make huge exceptions. I have loved some of the worst films ever made just because they were Christmas films.

And I am a big Tim Allen fan, even if good films with him don`t come along that often (Galaxy Quest being the best, if you`re not including the Toy Story films of course). I think he`s very funny and Home Improvement is a great show, one of my favourite little sitcoms

RE: Please recommend me a HDD DVD Recorder

Oh yeah and I would also like something that can record from the Discovery Channel. The LiteOn recorder can`t

RE: Please recommend me a HDD DVD Recorder

Ideally under or around £200 but if I had to go more so be it. Ebay opens it up a bit more as recorders which can be up to £350 you can get for less than £200

This item was edited on Tuesday, 12th September 2006, 00:12

Please recommend me a HDD DVD Recorder

I had a Philips DVD Recorder which I just had to give up on recently. I bought a LiteOn LVW-5027 as a replacement but have not been at all impressed with it and it`s getting returned as soon as possible so I need recommendations

Things I`m looking for -

- A Hard Disk Drive
- Able to do DVD to HDD and HDD to DVD
- Multi region or multi region capable
- Able to play DVD+RW disks and ideally able to record onto them
- Something that produces great picture on recording and playback. I tape a lot of stuff and usually try to fit about 4 hours on a disk. Otherwise I`d spend a fortune on disks
- Has RGB
- Has good editing features

Think that`s about it

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??

Oh yeah I forgot Three Burials... I thought that was excellent

And I too really enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Not anywhere close to the quality of the first but still a great film, just a bit long

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??

Well at the start of the year there was Walk the Line, Brokeback Mountain, Munich etc which were all great but in my mind the new film year doesn`t start until after the Oscars

Going by that so far I don`t think there have been any films that will be looked back on as classics. A lot of films I found fun and entertaining (Superman Returns, The Matador, Inside Man etc) but no classics I don`t think, I`d say the closest was probably Brick

RE: Recommend me a graphic novel...

Watchmen - Mentioned loads of times already and it deserves to be

The Crow

Batman - Along with all the others mentioned Arkham Asylum and Hush are pretty good as well

Daredevil - Any of the recent releases as over the last few years the run has been fantastic

Samurai: Heaven and Earth - No superhero elements to it but a great story and some of the most beautiful art I`ve ever seen

Usagi Yojimbo - Any at all from this wonderful series which can in equal parts deliver violence, humour and thought-provoking stories. Stan Sakai is a genius!

Seven Soldiers of Victory - A recent series and a really fun one

Sin City - Any from this series, That Yellow B*****d being my favourite

The MASK - Really good fun. And so different from the Jim Carrey film, so violent!

Add to that list that Astonishing X-Men and the New Avengers have been really good fun series so far

Can`t really give you any Superman recommendations as I`m not a fan but the few issues of Superman/Batman I read were quite good

RE: Poll - First DVD etc

1. Mission Impossible 2
2. Not really, just re-packaged along with the first
3. No

I have to admit to not being entirely sure that was the first I ever bought but it was certainly amongst the earliest. At the time I didn`t even have a DVD player, I watched it on my PS2

RE: Frasier

I love Frasier, up there with Scrubs in a battle for my favourite ever sitcom.

For me Niles is one of the best characters ever on TV and I loved Eddie, shame to hear he died a short while back

So many classic episodes but my favourite would probably be the ham radio episode. Oh and the scene with Niles on Valentine`s Day is fantastic!
