DVD`s DVD`s ....do you ever watch `em twice?

Stuart McLean (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 24th April 2007, 19:09

As I contemplate my ruinously gargantuan DVD stack (with a pending pile the size of everest), I realise that there are VERY few that I`ve watched twice. In fact, apart from `School for Scoundrels` (original) and a couple of the Ealing movies, ...oh ....and Stingray...I can`t think of any!?

Naturally, in my next life I expect to be watching them all regularly....

...and with so many bargains in the last couple of years (including the 20 L & H DVD`s recently ordered) I think I could watch DVD`s around the clock for a couple of years and never see the same one twice.

Now that just aint value for money....though I do confess to getting a warm glow when I see what`s due to air on my own private TV station.

...and apart from HIGNFY I don`t watch any telly. Dammit I haven`t got time!!!

Am i alone? Do you watch most your DVD`s more than once?! :/

Apart from a handful of films for the most part I haven`t watched my DVDs more than once. Hell there are maybe 50-75 at least which I have never watched. Got some from a year or two back I`ve not got round to watching yet

And TV shows can take me months and months, even a year or more to get through.

I know I have way too many DVDs but I can`t stop buying them and still got huge lists of DVDs I want

Because I don`t buy s***loads (have about 4 or 5 hundred DVDs I think), I tend to watch them more than twice. Although I have my own flat in Kent, all my DVDs etc. are still stored at my parents in Norfolk, until I actually buy somewhere. So when I go back to my parents I watch alot of my old DVDs then. If I had them here with me, I`d watch them less. I save all my new DVDs for when I go back to my parents as I`ve got a huge surround setup there in my room.

Hoping to buy my own place in the next month so will be FINALLY moving everything up here then. :D

Strangely the films I tend to watch twice usually happens around a seasonal event such as Halloween, or Christmas, just to get in to the spirit. So I`ll drag out all my Christmas DVDs a week or two before the big day, and watch them whilst wrapping presents.

Then during the summer, it`s usually something like the original Vacation movie, or Die Hard with a Vengeance.

Ive got about 400/500 dvds and usually keep around 200 in my house but the rest in my mums, although i do operate a rotation system, every month or so take any ive watched and get more.

Saying that i`ve got quite a few dvds i havent even seen once.
I think the dvds that tend to get the most viewings are the action films and comedies. This is usually due to the runtimes and if i dont really `want to think`

I try to watch everything more than once - once for the storyline, once for the nuances. Of course there are movies that once I`ve seen the story I don`t want to revisit them. Then there are the few who are regular comfort viewing. :B

The only ones I seem to watch more than once are things when a sequal comes out at cinema I want to see.

eg, I bought Spiderman DVD when it came out, watch it then, then watched it again before we saw spiderman 2 at cinema, last week we watched it again, then we`ll watch 2 again next week ready to see 3 at cinema.

generally though a lot of my films are in the cellophane, as if I see dead cheap DVD I buy it in case it`s good, so don`t get round to watching a lot of films once, let alone twice, and I still don`t understand when if there`s the choice I`ll buy the 2 disc version of a film, as we almost never watch the extras.

But then as said earlier, come Christmas time we`ll probably watch Bad Santa again, to get us in the mood ;)

Excellent film, especially the unrated version. Gremlins is my fave at christmas time.

When I get a DVD I try and watch it twice before filing it away with the other DVDs that haven`t seen the light of day in a looooong time! I have many DVDs that I have only watched once and keep meaning to go through my collection and give them another airing - the problem is that new ones arrive quicker than I can watch the old ones!

Yeah, I do that.

The only other ones ive watched more than once are ones that are on TV, I start watching it and think `Ive got this on DVD....`.

Oh and Ghostbusters. Ive worn that out.
