Any truly outstanding films this year??
I was having a discussion in the pub with mates and the question "What`s your favourite film this year?" came up. However I`m struggling to think of any particularly outstanding ones. All I can think of that I really enjoyed were V For Vendetta and Inside Man, but none that I thought were potential classics. Can anyone jog my memory???

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??
United 93
I don`t think any film in the past decade has had the same emotional impact as this film. I watched it the other day for the first time and pre-ordered the DVD as soon as it finished. Absolutely astounding movie from start to finish!
Other than that, there were a few films I loved (Miami Vice, A Scanner Darkly) but none that I would call truly outstanding. :(
EDIT: I would agree with V For Vendetta though, awesome film!

V for Vendetta is the only recent one that springs readily to mind.
Soooooooo much formulaic sh*te being churned out these days!

The Proposition is very good.
There has been some excellent films, but you need to really look past big blockbusters at the limited and indie releases.
Giggity giggity!

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??
For me, it was "A Scanner Darkly". It`ll take some beating.

United 93 is head and shoulders above everything else I`ve seen this year. I had a great time with Slither but United 93 is a masterpiece.

I thought Tsotsi was really good, and again The Proposition as well.
I also really liked Miami Vice and Superman Returns. And Clerks 2 as well, which I thought was one of the funniest films I`ve seen since Team America.
I loved Munich too. And V for Vendetta. I`ve seen so many I`m sure I`m forgetting some.
The only problem I have with United 93 is that it`s not a film I`ll ever watch again, because it`s so intense.

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??
I actually liked Reeker over Slither, although neither were amazing. Hills Have Eyes beats them both.
And agree on Supes and Clerks 2 (which was ace). Watching United 93 sometime this week.
Genuinly loved Mission Impossible 3 too, Oh, and Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut if fantastic, if that counts. ;)
Giggity giggity!

Yeah thought Clerks 2 was hilarious and enjoyed Hills Have Eyes too. United 93 was probably the film with the biggest impact but when compared to even last year which had Batman Begins, Brokeback Mountain, Walk The Line etc this year doesn`t quite match up..

RE: Any truly outstanding films this year??
Perhaps for Oscars reasons, the `best` films don`t tend to come out until the end of the year; A History of Violence, Walk the Line and Capote were all released in the winter and Brokeback Mountain didn`t hit most UK cinemas until January 2006. It`s likely that the films that collect the gongs won`t be released until the end of this year.
