I think he went a bit far, but does it deserve a banning? What do you think.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

EH? What have I missed?

But whatever it is for, dont people normally get banned when the mods email them and then get abuse back? So perhaps for something off site, in which case we couldnt judge if it was fair or not.

I just read the other thread, if I said what I think i;d probably be up for a banning too.

to try and keep it in an almost acceptable manner

I personally feel that, for the comments left in the RIP thread, Zovirax is an utter disgrace. I don`t care if he/she truly believes what was written and wants to take the stance he/she did on the matter but show some sense of human decency and just shut the thread without a response. There was absolutely NO need to put what you did, nothing at all would have sufficed.

From what I have seen of Zovirax`s posts I kind of hope that he/she is merely trying to use the thread to play some form of over exagerrated devils advocate in a way of starting off some huge slanging match on a forum because otherwise I have to say I think there is something seriously lacking in their character.

Hulk - I am sure that you have said some things in the past that have been "against the grain" and caused debate / argument. However, you accept and acknowledge that fact and can still have the ability to take a step back and assess situations as need be, respond accordingly and be posting in less controversial manner in the very next thread, something the afore mentioned poster doesnt seem to be able to do.

I think it`s a bit harsh one of the beauties of this forum is people can, within the law, say what they feel why he/she would comment on a thread that clearly does not concern him/her I cannot understand but as long as he/she doesn`t slander, libel or advocate any form of criminal enterprise he/she should be allowed to say what they feel regardless of how stupid or insensitive this might seem.

To be fair I dont think anyone has actually said that Zovirax should be banned. The question has been raised if it should happen but thats it

Personally I do agree in that the "freedom of speech" should not be removed but at the same time people need to show some form of common decency etc etc in what they record on the site
In this case the poster in question has not just over stepped the line they are a good few miles past it

That might be true of Usenet (to a degree), but not not here. The rules are set by the site owners and his posts come under the `flaming` clause of the AUP (at least according to the rules I just read). Then again, a lot of what`s written on this site contravenes the AUP.

I don`t know if it really warrants a ban. Sure it was insensitive, but maybe the person involved really does lack empathy. I`m not a particularly empathic person myself (for various reasons), so I always stay out of the RIP threads (especially dead celebrities I`ve never met) in case I sound like an unfeeling monster. Perhaps that would have been the sensible course of action, but maybe they were unable to overcome their first instinct. Or perhaps they`re a prick ;)

It`s not great loss that he`s gone. There was really no need to be so insensitive in that thread, and its not the first time he`s ruffled a few feathers on this forum.

Can`t say I have any sympathy for him! ;) Good call to whichever mod decided to ban him.
