Hmm...Sky Engineer sounds dodgy

roar349 (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 9th November 2006, 09:20

Rang Sky the other night after the sky+ box appeared to go south, after some persuading they agreed to send an engineer out to replace the box (if needed) and move the dish to the back of the house (if next door opens his window our sky disappears).

OH is at home and has just had a call from the `Sky` engineer, first thing he said was he`s an independant and will only accept cash (the OH has no money in the house, and he says he`ll come back tomorrow), then he tried to get out of moving the dish to the back of the house and asked if he could just move it over a bit.

She won`t ring Sky as she`s knackered after Ellis was up all night and doesn`t fancy being on hold for too long, but not sure they`ll let me do anything.

Is it just me or does this engineer sound like a total cowboy? Do Sky still have their own engineers?

From memory, it is likely to be an independant repair man that comes out. Not sure about the cash part though. And he ought to do everything that was agreed with Sky.

If your OH won`t call Sky, then perhaps you should, as this guy obviously is not going to do a proper job, and they should verify that he is legit.

Spoken to the OH again (I think she`s woken up a bit now), it`s not as bad as it first sounded, he does want cash but we`re only paying for the part (pole to raise the dish), and seems to be ok (depending on what time he gets there it might be too dark to move the dish, but has agreed to come back first thing tomorrow).

Move along, nothing to see.

:D I remember those sleepless nights and total disorientation at things like early phone calls or a postman knocking on the door when you`re still half asleep.

No problemo! ;)

F****** sky still isn`t fixed. I`m going to install this guy as a cowboy again (mainly due to not having sky last night). He turned up at 4 o`clock yesterday, agreed that the previous install was a right pigs ear, but still commented `could we not just move it over a bit`, OH said no. Getting to dark by then so said he`d come back tomorrow to move the dish, fair enough.

Then went in the house to look at the faulty box, agreed it was faulty, but had no boxes in his van! What! Hang on, sky knew the box was faulty so surely he knew it, so why didn`t he bring a spare?

Grrrr....

Sky contract their work out don`t they. The last engineer from sky I had looked as if he had just come out of prison and was sizing up the joint. He was SO scruffy and dirty it was hard to believe he was legit. Did an ok job, but I have never felt so uneasy with someone in the house like that before.

... If found, please return this person to the insane asylum, as it really annoys them when people do that

Complain, long and loud, as far up the tree as you can.
Unless people whinge management will think the job and service was OK.

I now have Sky+ back!

Engineer stank of alcohol apparently, tried to tell us we needed a bigger pole (10ft) on the back of the house (even though in the past we were told a 6ft one would suffice), then decided rather than move it he`d extend the arm on the front of the house (hardly noticable, but need to get neighbour to open his window so we can check).

Replaced our old amstrad box with a Pace 3100 (ok, was secretly hoping for a V3 box with double the storage, still peeves me that we`re on half the space new customers get), then when he tried to activate the box over the telephone line it kept failing, OH turned her back for a few seconds and he announced it was done and scarpered leaving us with no movies or sport (a phone call to sky sorted this out eventually).

Oh, and now the router won`t connect to the internet if the sky box is plugged in to the phoneline, so might need to phone them again.
