Yes, I thought about adding that as well but I`ve had no problems with them, so thought it would be a little unfair of me !!

RE: popcorn spyware ?

"he`ll forget to update/scan his system"

I`ve been using this for about 18 months now and hardly anything has got through. It blocks them before they even get onto your computer. What little has got through has been dealt with by spybot and were fairly harmless anyway. Best of all it`s free.

Spyware Blaster

Pay them the dollar equivalent of about £6-7 and for a year it automatically updates itself every time you connect to the internet.

I have no connection with the company etc etc.

Hope this helps.

RE: Whit a game..............

Yes it was a super game.

And I hope that excellent referee gets the Final as well.

RE: Any chance of a prayer please? I could do with it.

Not silly at all. Thinking of all of you.

RE: free blank dvd`s

Arrived this morning. Thanks pat-w. :)

RE: Is it possible to rip an audio track from a DVD??

When your trial runs out this will record, in real time, direct to mp3. It`s freeware and records whatever is going through your soundcard.

Absolute MP3 Recorder

Hope this helps.

RE: quick rechargable battery question

I`ve bought rechargeable batteries from this guy in the past and found them to be very good. Good prices as well.

RE: Possibly nicked for speeding (Part Deux)

Not sure if it`s still the case but I was caught 18 months ago.

Took the fixed penalty i.e. £60 fine and 3 points.

When my licence was returned it said 3 years for the 3 points to expire BUT I could not apply for the licence endorsement to be removed for 4 years.

RE: Breadmaker Bargain £11.98 at Wooworths

We bought our first breadmaker at Christmas last year and were interested to see how we got on with it. We bought a Morphy Richards, not the highly recommended Panasonic, simply because we found it at a bargain price (£20 so not much lost if we didn`t get on with it).

Our conclusion after 6 months with it is that it is one of the best things we have ever bought.

Our advice would be, try the supplied recipes first, if you don`t like some or all of these, as we did, don`t conclude the breadmaker you have bought is, or breadmakers in general are, rubbish and give up. Try varying the supplied recipes, also scour the internet for recipes and try them, we would be surprised if you didn`t find some that you liked.

Our other conclusions are that not all recipes may be to your particular "bread" taste or suitable for your breadmaker. We`ve tried some highly recommended recipes and found them not to our liking or a complete mess in our particular machine. Are all the people who liked them wrong? Almost certainly not !! So keep trying with different recipes.

Remember though, first time follow the instructions to the letter, then try variations.

RE: BEWARE, SCAM COULD BE EXPENSIVE.

Many thanks for the warning.

I haven`t tried it yet but this seems to do what you want.

RE: Climate Change computer prog

I`ve been taking part in this Climate Change experiment for about a month now and will probably be doing so for the next few months.

If you decide to take part PLEASE read the message board on how to backup your experiment. It isn`t difficult and may well save you a lot of frustration. A number of participants have run the experiment for some days, even weeks, only to find that their experiment has reset itself to year zero (1920), no backup and all data lost.

With a backup (I do one each day now), if this does happen you can restore your experiment to the point it was at when you did your backup and it will pick up from there.

Good luck if any of you decide to take part.

RE: Basic PC recording software

If it was Audacity, I think you need to thank Labman!

The main thing is that you got something that worked for you.

RE: Is there a program that shows your Internet phone number in realtime?

May I cast a note of caution in necessarily blaming one or more of your teenage sons for this costly event. Has he/they owned up to it? or have they strenuously denied responsibility?

I only ask because exactly the same happened to me a little over a year ago. Just like you I noticed on my BT bill two premium rate calls costing an approximate total of £47. A little investigation identified the number as a premium rate pornographic website. At that time only myself and my wife, who bless her didn`t even know how to switch the computer on, had access to my computer. A little further investigation established that a small number of these obnoxious sites, if you accidentally stumble across them, can put a spyware dialer on your computer. If, then, you have/leave your computer on but not connected to dial-up, the spyware is able to dial up to their website or any other premium rate number.

My salutary lessons from all of this was to use two spyware programs namely "spybot search & Destroy" and more crucially "Spyware Blaster" which blocks them in the first place. Never leave your computer unattended and switched on for any length of time when not connected to the internet. If you have a broadband connection with a dial-up connection as a backup, only connect the dial-up cable when you need to use it.

As BT said, I also felt lucky to have got away so lightly.

Best Regards

RE: Basic PC recording software

I also use Audacity but mainly to edit and modify sound files.

For simple recording I use the "Absolute MP3 Recorder" software and it`s free as well.

Available here:

Absolute MP3 Recorder

PS. You can also programme it like a video recorder to record at set times.

RE: Home Contents Insurance

We have our home insurance with Liverpool Victoria. Made a small claim (less than £500) a couple of years ago for water damage. They were excellent, very easy to deal with and sorted out with the minimum of effort from us.

We`re still with them and find their rates quite competitive. Perhaps not the absolute cheapest but the claims experience above counts for a lot.

Hope this helps.

RE: JVC GZ-MC100 Everio Harddisk Digital Camcorder + Extras £300 + P&P

I believe "28 Days Later" was filmed using a number of Canon XL-1s camcorders.

About £2000 to £3000 each.

RE: JVC GZ-MC100 Everio Harddisk Digital Camcorder + Extras £300 + P&P

Hi beans44

Just to add my two pen`th to what bytemaster has said, and I wouldn`t disagree with a word he has said.

"this camera can record sound at the same time as video right?" Yes

"Will the sound quality be fuzzy?" Not in my experience.

"Does this mean that it can record sound much better but not at the same time as video?" Not quite sure what this is!! Possibly either sound with the photo shoot function or dubbing additional sound on to previously recorded video via the camcorder itself.

"Also, what kind of results can I expect to get on the highest quality setting compared to a Mini DV digital camcorder?" Not sure myself but bow to bytemasters greater knowledge in that there will be no discernible difference.

"Basically, can this digital camcorder be used to make a commerical quality looking film?" Almost certainly no. However I have to say that I am always astonished at the quality of video and sound that can be obtained from a few hundred pounds worth of modern digital camcorder. A commercial quality camcorder will run into four figures and beyond.

With regards to editing, as bytemaster has said, there is a downside to editing MPEG encoded video as opposed to AVI. One thing that could tip the balance is that with MiniDV you can transfer AVI to your computer and edit in AVI. When you`ve finished editing etc. the results can then be converted to MPEG format. Bytemaster, Im sure, can tell you if there is a quality loss although I haven`t noticed one myself.

Finally, the extras mentioned in my original post have now been taken off but the price remains at £300.

Good luck whatever you decide. Best regards.

RE: Theoretical question - discuss...

If the meteor was the size of Ireland, I think 2006 would have been equally implausible to do anything about it!!

Point taken though, better to be on the safe side at 1700.

RE: Theoretical question - discuss...

As far as acceleration due to gravitational pull is concerned, it`s mass doesn`t make any difference. Remember Galileo dropping two different sized stones off the Leaning Tower of Pisa, they both hit the ground at the same time.

I suspect it would be many hundreds if not thousands of miles per hour.

There wouldn`t be anybody left to worry about the aftermath, that`s for sure. There may well not be any earth left to speak of as well.

RE: JVC GZ-MC100 Everio Harddisk Digital Camcorder + Extras £300 + P&P

bytemaster

Thanks for the info. :) I did say I didn`t know much about it !!

Price has gone down now so I`ve changed the thread header. Knowing E-buyer I`ll be changing it every day !! :/
