Possibly nicked for speeding (Part Deux)

timechaser (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 13th June 2006, 08:30

IF you peeps remember - I had posted up stuff about being nicked for speeding. That was the 29th of May (Monday). Yesterday made it 14 days. I remember someone telling me there the fine gents in livery had to get back to me within 14 days with a ticket...

I assume they can blame the Royal (snail) Mail for delays too... how long for that?

What I am basically asking is - 2 weeks are up. How long more do I keep frantically checking the post box every evening before breathing a sigh of relief that I aint going to be fined?

To refresh memory - this was going at 50 (indicated) in a 40 zone, and I was (I think) caught by a Safety Partnership Camera Van around a bend.

17 days ( 14 days + postage ) is the accepted limit,so you`ll have to sweat it out a wee bit longer. :(

Only exceptions to that are company and hire cars, where they have the same time scale to write to the lease/hire company, and then an unlimited amount of time to write to the actual driver thereafter.

I feel for you, I went through this 2 summers ago (I felt I lost the whole summer through worry, stress and checking the post!). Fortunately, nothing turned up.

Worringly, I heard yesterday that points stay on a license now for 4 years, not 3, do you know if this is the case?

That will teach us for committing such a heinous crime.

Neil.

IIRC its the end of the 3 years ie 4th anniversary of the offence that the points come off.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I went through the same thing thanks to bloody speed cameras on a f***ing motorway. 40mph, with very little warning. Plus the road was clear of roadworks and no f***er seemed to be working on it. I just forgot, I suppose, since the only things to remind me were a line of cones for two miles.

The thing is, the camera DEFINTELY flashed but I was following a guy at probably a car length as he must have noticed the lines and dropped anchor quite violently, so I figured the flash must have been for him....after nearly 3 weeks of waiting....

Actually, thats a good point, is there an frequency that the gatso operates at? Does it process like one every so many seconds? If a stream of cars went through quickly, would only every other one get snapped?

My car is private - so thanks bowfer... will sweat it out for 3 more days.

As for the Gatsos, I have been told by knowledgeable people that there is a cycle time as the Gatso operates on film based cameras, not digital ones. Though I believe the cycle time could be as less as 3 seconds...

I have an even better question - the Gatso is positioned to the left of the road or sometimes in the middle. I refuse to believe that it can monitor all the lanes - so which lane is supposedly safe? My detectors give out a strong reading for Mr Gatso`s radar in the lane farthest (contrary to what you would expect!).

Not sure if it`s still the case but I was caught 18 months ago.

Took the fixed penalty i.e. £60 fine and 3 points.

When my licence was returned it said 3 years for the 3 points to expire BUT I could not apply for the licence endorsement to be removed for 4 years.

I think the most important thing is, it might take 3 or 4 years to come off your licence but your insurance usually want to know about it for 5 years :(

per insurance company employee

points expire on licence for 3 years
points can be removed form licence after 4 years
insurance company remove after 5 but only adjust premium calculation for 3 years

Yeah, but at the same time, they don`t actually pay much/any attention to speeding convictions, unless they are outrageous.
If you have the average `SP30` (speeding on a highway) code,I`ve yet to come across any companies that will levy a premium it.
