RE: Problems with Toshiba DVD Player
I`ve got the same player, I know that certain options can only be changed when you press stop if there`s a dvd disc in it, but beyond that I haven`t got a clue, sorry.
RE: Best AGP Graphics Card For Under 80 Quid?
Cheers all
I`ve ordered the X1600pro 256Mb from Pixmania
RE: Problems with Toshiba DVD Player
Press the `Set Up` button on the remote. The option to change between PAL and AUTO should be there. Presumably yours is set to Auto.
RE: Best AGP Graphics Card For Under 80 Quid?
Thanks for the replies, they`re much appreciated.
I`m tempted to go for the Radeon X1600 Pro - I`m presuming you mean the 256Mb card (could I install a X1600 512Mb card on a 4X mobo?) and does it need any fiddling with ? (ie. connecting up to the Power Supply Unit).
Bearing in mind the limitations of my AGP 4X motherboard would increasing my AGP aperture size in the bios to max (256Mb) be a good idea?

PROCESSOR: PENTIUM 4 3.06 Ghz HYPERTHREAD
MOBO MODEL : INTEL D845GERG2 CHIPSET 845GE
MEMORY : 1024 Mb RAM (2 x 512Mb PC2700 DDR-SDRAM)
My current card is a 128Mb. I checked in the bios and it allows 256Mb. Sorry I cant be of more help but know bugger all about graphics.

RE: The Plant Life
Do you mean Plant Life? - the West coast funk band who appeared on Jools Holland a while back?
If so their album ` The Return of Jack Splash` has been out for a while and it`s really good. I got my copy from HMV, but am sure you`ll be able to pick it up cheaper elsewhere.

Best AGP Graphics Card For Under 80 Quid?
As it says, I`m looking to upgrade my ageing card, but can`t afford to upgrade my motherboard at the moment which doesn`t have PCI-Express slots and only supports AGP4X( Though I understand I`ll be able to put an AGP 8X card in it, though won`t get as good performance with it)
I`ve been chosen to beta test a new game and it`ll need to support T&L: Transform & Lighting/Vertex & Pixel Shader (v2.0 or preferably v3.0)
Any advice greatly appreciated please!
RE: Talk Talk Broadband Package.
The broadband call centre for Talk Talk is based at newly acquired offices in Preston.
They are currently in the middle of a big recruitment drive, so maybe things will get better.
RE: Have you ever walked out of a film?
Walked out of Tomb Raider, man that was terrible.
RE: Silent Hill... hmmmmm
I have to say that as a great fan of all four of the Silent Hill games I thought that the film didnt work.
Sure the creatures and visuals were fantastic and true to the games, but this alone does not make a good cinematic experience. I agree totally that the plot and dialogue were woefully inadequate and at times it was like watching the game.
Silent Hill game fans beware, you might come away from the cinema sorely dissapointed.
RE: Dark Water
I think The Eye is made in Thailand, is it not?
I personally prefer the Japanese Ringu trilogy. The remake of Ring isn`t bad (havent seen the Hollywood version of Ring2 yet).
You have to bear in mind the vastly inflated budgets for the remakes, that`s one of the reasons why I prefer the Jap ones. They scare more for less $ I think.
I liked the Japanese `Dark Water` too and think the remake might be alright even if it`s just for Pete Postlethwaite.
btw, If any of you japanese horror buffs are out there :
1) how does the Japanese version of the Grudge compare to the US remake?
2) `Audition` - is this worth watching ?, I get the impression that it`s very disturbing and alot scarier than the other films I`ve mentioned here.

RE: Picture Enhancement
Am I likely to get a noticeably better picture with higher quality component video leads than my rather cheap JVC cheap ones(£12) ?
They look to be gold plated but i`ve absolutely no idea about leads and what i should expect to pay in regards to getting a better picture.
I`ve probably had the player about 3 years now, and it basically came pretty much out on top compared to other budget players at the time.

Picture Enhancement
I currently have a Toshiba SD220e player linked by a cheap (£12) component video cable to a 32` Toshiba PictureFrame1 TV(has 100hz,DD5.1 optical input and speakers) and am basically torn between upgrading the player or investing in some better interconnects, in the hope of pushing up the picture quality. At the time I bought the dvd player it had won several awards in various budget player categories.
I don`t really want to spend any more than £200 , what would be best - a new player or cables?

RE: Radiohead, best band in the world???
absolutely not.
the buggers should bloody cheer up if you ask me.
RE: Great cover versions
To be honest I reckon the best covers band ever was Rotary Connection, Charles Stepney`s band fronted by Minnie Ripperton.
Some of the tracks they covered:
Respect,
Like a Rollin` Stone.
Sunshine of your Love
The Burning of the Midnight Lamp
The Weight
etc
They basically threw the rulebook away with some of the covers which sound so far away from the originals , but are still classics in their own right

RE: Panic Attacks...
Haggis`s story echoes mine, as I too suffered with them during the early 90`s .
I started with them suddenly one night and all I can say is it can be the scariest experience of your life.
What I was told about panic attacks is that because of the psychological nature of them they can mimic all kinds of things. My personal experience of an attack involved a heightened sense of my own heart beat rate and the left side of my chest tightening up(ie. felt pretty much like i was having a heart attack). I had them so bad I was having mild hallucinations because of the resulting irregular breathing patterns.
They began to happen regularly and so I went to the doctors and he basically mis-diagnosed me, as did the emergency doctor who was called out because of their continuation.
It took a `lowly` nurse,(In comparison to the supposedly more medically astute doctors),
to figure out what I was suffering from and immediately advised the breathing in and out of the bag trick. It worked a treat and basically that`s how I became rid, so that I very rarely suffer from them anymore.
Apparently it`s all to do with the levels of carbon dioxide you breathe in.

RE: Cancer - let`s fight it together (DVD Reviewer anti-cancer effort SIGN UP NOW!
Please, please sign up and download the UD Agent.
My mum (aged 56) was diagnosed with cancerous cells earlier this year and passed away very suddenly on the 31st May. She had only just been through her first batch of radioptherapy (10 days of 6 minute blasts of treatment) and all the doctors/nurses gave our family the impression she would pull through (her GP was also very shocked to hear of her death). We were told that her body must have reacted badly to the treatment she had. My mum had cancer cells in her lymphatic glands and also `spotting` in her lungs.
Please remember that it is also devasting for the families who are left behind when a close relative is taken by this disease and so cancer can affect us all.

RE: please help dvd x copy express cant get menus only movie???????
It only copies the main movie - I`ve read various reviews/guides about it :(
RE: Do any of you listen to radio on your pc?
Try the Ministry Of Sound website - amongst all the progressive house/trance rubbish there are a few good shows worth listening to.
If you like old school house/garage mixes by greats like Tony Humphries,Masters at Work,Larry Levan, Danny Krivit etc. :) try deephousepage.com to listen to classic archive mixes from the 80`s to present day. It`s an archive rather than a mix show but it is excellent. :)

Help Needed ! Santana `Supernatural Tour` DVD
Just wanted to ask if anybody knew if the R2 release has Dolby 5.1 and/or Dolby Surround track (the only advertising I can find says it`s a DTS disk)
I`m planning on giving it as a birthday gift.
RE: Scarface - Now Deleted !!!!!!
It does sound like they will re-release it on Region 2 at a vastly inflated price and add the moniker `special edition` to it`s title.
I`ve got region 2 Scarface and the sound on it is Dolby Surround - I think I`m right in thinking that the new R1 release has Dolby Digital 5.1 sound so it`s likely they`ll be releasing the new remastered(expensive) version in the UK. :)
RE: So what`s your favourite One Hit Wonder?
Men At Work `I c 8) ome from a land down under`
What about Sub Sub`s `Aint no love ` as they never had any other major hits until
they changed to become Doves.
Bucketheads was Kenny `Dope` Gonzales` project under the MAW banner.

RE: Just received `The Two Towers`!!
Hope the picture quality is up there with the Oscars screener that I watched some time ago at a friends (fantastic picture and Dolby Digital 5.1 -shame about the `for your consideration` captions ).
I`ll probably be waiting until the extended version comes out in November before I purchase.
Also hope it doesn`t have faults with the Dolby Digital which plagued FOTR.
