RE: Aiwa HVDH 10 DVD/video combo

Yep, same question here too.

Going to buy a device like this for my father - want it to be multi-region, and also good PAL/NTSC output options

RE: In-car DVD player?

Out of interest - can you use this screen when not attached directly to the PS2? i.e. can you have the PS2 under the seat and the screen on the headrest?

My last couple of trips to France have involved rigging up 15" TFT`s on the back of a headrest and running them from a laptop. Seems the PS2 would make a better kids package all round.

RE: Panasonic ram disks 9.4

Try removing the "k" from the end of his link

RE: Pioneer DV-350 or Toshiba SD330?

Yes, the Richer sounds one has a "Multi-region" sticker on the outside and is advertised as multi-region. Haven`t confirmed it yet as it`s still unopened waiting to be taken home!

RE: Pioneer DV-350 or Toshiba SD330?

The Manager at London Bridge wasn`t interested. I ended up paying the price match - so I get it for the weekend, rather than waiting for Amazon`s phones to get sorted. That`s the price of impatience!

I guess the store down here has higher overheads to cover than Liverpool?!

RE: Pioneer DV-350 or Toshiba SD330?

Ok, here`s the skinny with Toshy SD300 Price Beating at Richer Sounds:

Went down there with a printout of my Amazon order and the advert page from the website confirming the price and 24 hour availability. They need to check by phone. Try finding a phone number for Amazon anywhere!!! Well, I managed in the end (020 8636 9200) but guess what? Their phone system is being upgraded today, so you can`t get through any other way.

So, the manager in Richer Sounds said the best he could do was price match - (which to be honest I`m happy with as I get it sooner and have somewhere real to take it back to) but I didn`t see why I should let them off the hook.

They say they`ll match any confirmed internet price and list Amazon on one of the companies they`ll beat, yet they know full well that all Internet vendors don`t want to speak to anyone on the phone - only email.

Bah!

Hostilities to re-commence later on the way home.......

RE: Pioneer DV-350 or Toshiba SD330?

Oooo hope you`re right! Ordered a 330 last night from Amazon, but got time to cancel before Richer Sounds open at 12 I hope. Please let them have one in stock at London Bridge!

Thx for the tip off!

RE: DVD-R probs. Movie skips or stops towards the end

I`m using Avery Afterburner software and self-adhesive labels. It comes with a quite nifty gizmo to apply the labels to the DVD which should ensure accurate and even application, but I guess there might be slight errors. Something`s got to be causing the problem.

I might try gloss labels - wondering if there`s a "grip" issue

DVD-R probs. Movie skips or stops towards the end

I`m using a Pioneer 104 to burn my disks with Nero 5.5.9.0. I`ve tried bulkpaq Gen 3 and gave up totally on them - lots of problems. Since then I got some White Label Gen 4, 2x DVD-R`s which seem better, but I am still getting lockups and skipping towards the end of a movie on my Dansai 1010.

Now here`s where it get`s interesting. I`ve been doing some nice Avery afterburner labels for the disks I`ve been burning, and so I thought I`d try an experiment......one of the disks that would always skip near the end - I ripped off the label and it played perfectly. I`ve done the same for 2 or 3 other problem disks with the same results.

So here`s the question: does this sound familiar to anyone, and any suggestions for making non-printable disks look pretty? (maybe other labelling kits?)

RE: CHEAP DVD-R FOR PANASONIC DMR - E30

Go to http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/FOR_DVD_R_RW_CLICK_HERE.html

They tell you what can be used with what recorder and sometimes list PS2 compat.

RE: Which DVD Recorder Do I Buy?

Or, you could wait 6 months or so for more recorders to come out with Hard Disks. I was very tempted by the DMR-E30 over xmas, but the limited capacity of the removable storage isn`t enough of a step forward. Even the 9.4Gb disks you have to manually flip to use the full capacity.

If the HS-2 was £500 I`d buy one now, but £700+ is just too much.

Hard disk DVD recorders are the product of this year, along with PVR`s which don`t record to DVD (not interested). We`re going to see quite a few models launched. What`s needed is the lower-end manufacturers to get involved too to drive the prices down.

RE: DVD for under

I`ve got the Dansai 1010 from Tesco £69.99.

You can make it region free from a hidden menu, and you can upgrade the firmware to play VCD`s, and SVCD`s from a disk from Tesco customer services (or via a procedure posted on this board - search for dansai 1010 and you`ll find it).

It plays MP3`s from CD-R`s.

It also disables Macrovision and CSS protection from the hidden menu.

The only thing it doesn`t do that some do is play .jpg images or Kodak Photo CD`s.

RE: Plasma, Rear projection or 36" Toshiba

£2,500 is a bit skinny for a plasma, so you`re going to be looking at budget cheapo models. Projection is for dumb Americans who have no taste, but like to be able to get 4 picture-in-pictures of different college football games dotted around the edge of the screen.

The picture frame toshy is another story. A friend has one of these and it`s just awesome. Unless you have a particularly large living room the 36" toshy will give you a superb viewing experience.

RE: Multiplayer games over the net - Whats the best way? (help)

Let us know what games you`re interested in, that defines what the bext solution is going to be.

If you`re looking to host your own server you need more bandwidth than regular ADSL or Cable connections provide if you want more than 3/4 players connected.

RE: Which DVD-R/RW?

You should opt for one of the new multiformat drives if you can afford it. They burn to DVD-R and DVD+R and the RW variants of both. Saves worrying about committing to one format or another.

Here`s a link to the current Sony model: http://www.dabs.com/25Y5MF

Having said that, I`m very happy with my Pioneer 104. I`ve bought cheap bulkpaq DVD-R`s and not had any problems to date. Compatibility is great.
