Multiplayer games over the net - Whats the best way? (help)
Me and a few mates who are on broadband want to try out a few multiplayer games but we haven`t been able to get many to work. We manage to set up two player games but we want everyone to be in the same game.
Is this possible or will we have to subscribe to some gaming server? Are there any free one available?
Thanks,
Ross.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is Brilliant :) and has its own site!
Novalogic has its own site 2 for all of there games :)
U only need to give your mates your ip address and u can host game!
They can all come and play anything u host :)

Get Gamespy or something similar, it will show you a host of free servers (altho other people than you and your mates will be on them).
If you want to play solely with your friends, then I recommend one of you starting a server up on your machine. As to how this is done, that depends on what games your playing!

Let us know what games you`re interested in, that defines what the bext solution is going to be.
If you`re looking to host your own server you need more bandwidth than regular ADSL or Cable connections provide if you want more than 3/4 players connected.

1000s of free servers being run all the time for many different games.
You just need to know how to find them! Try GameSpy as suggested, but I prefer The All Seeing Eye ( http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/ ) it`s free. On install it will scan your PC for compatible games then display a list of them. All you need to do is click the game you want to play, refresh the list and it will list servers for it. Just double click a server to join. GameSpy is quite similar.
Most games also have built in server browsers too. Run your game, go into the multiplayer screen and look for the server lists - you may need to hit an "update" or "refresh" button to get any servers displayed initially.
If you just wanna play with your mates, then one of you can run your own server (preferably the one with the most powerful PC) and give you all his IP address. Again, you should be able to enter this in the games multiplayer set up somewhere - look for "Add Server" or "Custom Server" type options where you can type the ip.
