RE: Camcorders - where do I start?

¦Thanks. Really appreciate this.

Okay. Looking on a few camcorder magazine websites at "Editor`s choice" ecc and I see

PANASONIC HDC-SD10 Camcorder
Here on Pixmania:

and I also see a similar model:
PANASONIC HDC-SD60 Camcorder
Again here:

I presume the HD60 is a higher spec (bigger zoom and maximum resolution)
I don`t understand what the sensitivity (lux) is.

Will one of these do me for my needs?
Or can anyone recommend any other makes or models.

I realise if I buy these I still need to buy memory cards and a spare battery, which will up the overall price.

We are looking at spending up to £400.

Grateful for any help or advice. Scared I`ll buy something unsuitable as I really don;t know what I`m looking for.

RE: Camcorders - where do I start?

Thanks. So if I record in High Def format I can still play the footage back on a standard def TV? That was one of the things confusing me.

And the other is all the various file formats they record in.

My parents are computer illiterate and don`t live nearby. I want to be able to EASILY take the footage I have recorded and transfer it to a DVD that will play on their DVD player.

Does anyone else do this and can you recommend a format and make.

Camcorders - where do I start?

The wife keeps dropping hints that I buy a camcorder to film footage of the kids growing up.

I have had a look around at various reviews and I`m completely bewildered. I usually end up giving up and putting it off for another day/week/month etc.

I`m confused at various formats. Also confused at HD cameras

We don`t have a High Def TV, so does that mean we need to avoid a HD camera ?!?

I`m basically looking for something that is easy to use, will record decent family videos (holidays/school plays/etc), and that I can convert onto a DVD, so I cam send copies off to the kids Grand-Parents.

I own a PC and am computer literate, so learning a knew bit of software doesn`t faze.
Not and expert thought, so all the connection specs listed on camcorder go over my head.

Grateful for any pointers anyone can give me.

Thanks

David

RE: Danger Man - 13 disc set for less than £20??

I had the same message at first from Woolworth`s. The boxset arrived in the post about 10 days later. Strangely they have only just e-mailed me today to let me know that they have dispatched it.

Fingers crossed that your boxset`s turn up soon. Sounds like its a genuine offer price and not a mis-price, so you should get them eventually

RE: Danger Man - 13 disc set for less than £20??

Wow - Excellent spot. I bought mine from Woolworth`s for £19.99 as that was the cheapest retailer when I checked the comparison site. It arrived today - thirteen discs and a book all in a nice box. I`m a very happy shopper!

Many thanks
:)

RE: choices UK - X files bargain (12.95 each!) and others

When the X-Files boxsets first came out on VHS they were limited edition releases and series 1 sold out very quickly.

I sold my series one boxset then and someone paid me £150 for it (It was the only series he was missing). :)

Six weeks later they re-released the boxsets on VHS for £80. :D

Oh how I laughed (all the way to the bank).

I wish I`m sold all my other VHS tapes at the same time though - I have seven boxes of the &*^%$ things taking up space in the loft. :/

Anyone want Babylon 5, Blakes 7 or some Carry On movies on VHS!

RE: Newbee questions about DVD Recording

Thanks for all the advice. The sample box sounds a good idea.

I am talking about a PC DVD burner at the moment, but I will be buying a DVD Recorder as soon as I decide which one to buy. (I`ll probably be asking advice here about that soon!)

I`ll buy a sample box and wait until I buy my DVD Recorder as well before investing in a stack of discs - just to make sure I get some that are compatible with both.

Gonzo

RE: Newbee questions about DVD Recording

Thanks for the reply. I had seen posts reference prefered disc types before but not really paid attention (not have a burner at the time). I knew there was a certain dye type that was prefered.

Thanks for the info. I`ve just checked out the retailer you mentioned (2nd time lucky - svp.com appears to be a French Opticians website!). I`ll buy some discs to night and hopefully avoid burning some coasters!

The Eagle Has Landed Free in Todays Mail on Sunday

Not sure if it is regional, but here in Gloucester we have had the first part of a Michael Caine double bill in The mail on Sunday.

The Eagle Has Landed is in todays newspaper, and The Fourth Protocol is in next weeks.

RE: DVD recorders

Thanks Jim,

That`s brilliant. Cheers

DVD recorders

I am looking at buying my first DVD recorder in the very near future, and I have a couple of stupid questions.

1. I see lots of recommendations for various machines. Are they all Multi-Region? I own Region 1, 2 and 4 discs. I was looking at the new Panasonic machines.

2. Can I SCART my video player up to a DVD-Recorder and copy a video on a DVD-R.
I am talking about family videos here, not pre-bought video`s. (though I understand that you can also get Macrovision removing SCART leads)

Thanks

Newbee questions about DVD Recording

I`ve just got my first DVD Burner. I understand that it is better no avoid cheap DVD-Rs.
What brand of discs are the best?

Thanks in advance

The Dickens Collection - Subscription Problems

Are any of you subscribers to the Dickens Collection.

See www.gefabbri.co.uk/TheDickensCollection/

I have been a subscriber since it started, but I haven`t received anything since Issue 27.
According to the website Issue 30 is now out. :(

My e-mails to the company go unanswered, and annoyingly their customer services telephone number is either engaged or rings out and is never answered. >:(

Is anyone else having problems, and have any subscribers received Issue 28 onwards.

There are only 32 books in the complete collection, so I am going to be £$&%S off if the company has gone bankrupt and I can`t get the last 5 books. >:(

Thanks

RE: Faulty Paramount DVD from Play.com

Thanks for the information. I`ll try Play again with the "90 day limited warranty" and see what they say. If I get no joy I will ring the Paramount Number posted.

Disc 2 has lots of picture distortions on it. Discs 1, 3, and 4 all play fine, so I`m assuming it`s the disc and not my player.

I have a stack of unwatched DVDs sat on the shelf, so I have decided not to buy any more until I`ve watched those. Play`s loss, as I was interested in a couple of items in there current sale. I`ll wait now.

Faulty Paramount DVD from Play.com

I was tempted by a one of the Play sales in November and bought a huge pile of boxsets that I have been watching over the last 7 weeks or so.

One of the boxsets is "Cheers - Complete Series 2". I discovered last night that the second disc is faulty. I have rang Play, but they won`t exchange it because I have had it more that 28 days. (so much for the season of goodwill!) They say I will now have to return it direct to the DVD label. It`s a Paramount DVD, but there are no addresses or contact details on the box. All I can find online is the American Paramount site.

Anyone else had to return anything direct to paramount and where did you get the address from.

Thanks in advance

Macrovision removing scart lead?

Please excuse my ignorance. Where do I get a macrovision removing scart lead and how much will it cost me?

RE: Problem Playing Dr Who Lost In Time Disc 2

Sorry. I have an REC R-800C which is about 5 years old. I have hundreds of discs and never had any problems before. I have had the odd faulty disc before, but these have also refused to play on my DVD-ROM. This disc is confusing me as it freezes in the player, accompanied my whirring noises and sometimes loud `clicks`, but plays fine on my DVD-ROM.

I think I`ll send it back for a replacement and see if that does the same.

Thanks

Problem Playing Dr Who Lost In Time Disc 2

Is anyone else having problems playing any of the latest Doctor Who Discs

Discs 1 and 3 play fine. Problem occurs with disc 2. If I episode select the `The Faceless Ones - Episode 1` my DVD Player makes lots of whirring noise and freezes.
It sounds lke it`s searching but can`t find it.
However it appears to play fine on my PC CD-ROM which is confusing me.

Crazy Ape - Are they reliable

I want to get my Dad the 50 Western Movie Megapack which I have found at www.crazyape.com

Thanks

RE: Free ` Giants of Rock` cd in The Sunday Mail..

We had a "Giants of Rock" CD in the Mail on Sunday about 2 weeks ago, so I presume it`s different dates for different regions.

RE: Free DVD in Saturdays `The Mirror`

Almost given up, but FACE/OFF arrived today. Two down, two to go.

Incidently did anyone send off for the Detective DVDs from The Sun around the same time as this offer (Inspector Morse and A Touch of Frost). No sign of either of them either yet. Has anyone else received them?

RE: Free DVD in Saturdays `The Mirror`

Collected the tokens for all four films.

Muriels Wedding arrived last week. No sign of the other three yet.

No sign of Inspector Morse or A Touch of Frost from the recent Sun offer either.

4 X Free DVD`s in The Sun Next Week

Tuesday: Free "Poroit" - Voucher to Blockbuster video to collect

RE: WH Smiths Half Price Sale

I have been looking around for the Rising Damp Boxset, but no luck so far.

I would be happy to pay someone £20 + Postage costs if they come across a copy :)

RE: WH Smiths Half Price Sale

Many thanks for the tip off on the WH Smiths boxsets.

I managed to get a copy of the War boxset for myself and the Modern Romance boxset for my wife. Both of us are very happy.

There were 3 copies of the War boxset still on the shelves of WH Smiths at "The Fort" shopping centre in Birmingham as at 11 O`Clock on Saturday morning. They are marked up as £39.99 with no sign of the being in the half price sale, so they may still be there

RE: Cheap DVD Player recommendation wanted

Thanks. I have looked up the machines that you have all mentioned and decided to spend the extra few pounds and go for the Toshiba SD330

Cheers for the advice

REC DVD-R800C ... Does it play RCE discs?

I own a REC DVD-R800C Player.

Does anyone know if it plays RCE coded discs?

I have always avoided the RCE discs in the past, but I quite fancy buying the "Soap" Complete Series 1 boxset which is RCE coded and no sign of a Region 2 release.

Has anyone else got a REC DVD-R800C and have you tried RCE discs on it yet?

Thanks :)
