Faulty Paramount DVD from Play.com

The Great Gonzo (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 24th December 2004, 10:26

I was tempted by a one of the Play sales in November and bought a huge pile of boxsets that I have been watching over the last 7 weeks or so.

One of the boxsets is "Cheers - Complete Series 2". I discovered last night that the second disc is faulty. I have rang Play, but they won`t exchange it because I have had it more that 28 days. (so much for the season of goodwill!) They say I will now have to return it direct to the DVD label. It`s a Paramount DVD, but there are no addresses or contact details on the box. All I can find online is the American Paramount site.

Anyone else had to return anything direct to paramount and where did you get the address from.

Thanks in advance

Cooking is part of the fun of Christmas. For best results;

* Try out lots of different recipes
* Always pre-heat your oven
* DO NOT bake an APPLE PIE and proceed to PUT it through Mr T`s LETTERBOX!

Under UK law, I believe all software, including DVD`s, have a 90 day limited warranty.
Limited means, scratch it etc., it aint covered.

If the disc is definitely faulty, and not a player quirk, I can`t see why Play won`t replace it. Although, Jersey law might be totally different :/

Tell ya what though....might sound daft, but sometimes I`ll have discs I aint watched for a bit, so that`s gonna make me think twice before using Play again!

Thanks for the information. I`ll try Play again with the "90 day limited warranty" and see what they say. If I get no joy I will ring the Paramount Number posted.

Disc 2 has lots of picture distortions on it. Discs 1, 3, and 4 all play fine, so I`m assuming it`s the disc and not my player.

I have a stack of unwatched DVDs sat on the shelf, so I have decided not to buy any more until I`ve watched those. Play`s loss, as I was interested in a couple of items in there current sale. I`ll wait now.

Remember I said I "believe", not 100% sure.
Most software actually details it somewhere on it, but if Jersey runs on similar laws, then Play will probably play ball (soz about the pun :D) once you start talking.

The other thing is....picture distortions?
What kind? Might be worth posting for someone else to check their set just in case it is the player.

Normally, it`s unlikely to be hardware, but with DVD discs changing every other week ya nivver know.....

GL btw ;)

I just like to add that some time ago I bought a DVD from Play.com and didn`t play it for about 3 months. I then discovered that the disc started pixelating after about 20 mins into the film. I contacted them, explained the problem and the reason why I hadn`t played it (too many discs to watch, not enough time to watch them!) and explained what a good customer I was to them. They told me to send it back. They replaced it!! So it does surprise me that they are taking this attitude with you. Tell them you`ll use CD-WOW from now on, that may make them change their minds!! ;)
