SPOILER:
The past year has been a wonderful time to be a Scotland fan.
Drawn in a group with the top two teams in world football, WC 2006 finalists, and maintaining our challenge to the very end of our qualifying games is far more than any of the most deluded fans could ever wish for.
Well done Big Eck and all the boys.
From the days when watching Scotland play was painful to the current time when it is at times a joy to watch is a remarkable turn around of events.

Yes Italy and France are through but let us take nothing away from the team.
Again WELL DONE LADS YOU DID YOURSELVES PROUD

I`m sure that any other time beating France home and away would almost certainly guarantee qualification.

You did yourselves and your country proud.

watched it in pub and never seen such a shocking decision , obvious fould against hutton and given to the italians, I genuinly dont think the linesman was bought but given their history im sure some will look at the decision given just how blatant it was, Only Scotland could give the world champs a 1 goal start lol :( and never been in such a quiet pub after the extra time victory to which i resorted to a comment along the lines of

I could murder an Italian, ......Panucci ;)

Unlucky lads a whole country is gutted :(

I`m just back from a night which started with the Scotland game. Everywhere in Edinburgh was packed so we found a quiet cafe showing it in....POLISH! haha, no bother it was all the same.

So depressing. I`m a little drunk still but I`m annoyed that Scotland get this close and still lose. If I remember right wasn`t Scotland`s goal off-side anyway?

Oh well, they still did better than anyone thought they would and have a spirit England can`t seem to get close to. Saying that, I do hope England (and N. Ireland) qualify!

I think the worst thing about that shocking decision is you know Ukraine are going to beat France on Wednesday and therefore a draw would have meant Scotland qualified. :¦

I am no Scotland fan, but that was an awful decision.

The rules applying to offside state (Paraphrase)

"If there is any doubt as to whether a player is in an offside position when playing or attempting to play the ball then the advantage / benefit should be given to the attacking player"

The goal that was dis-allowed for the Italians may actually have been chalked off for the very simple reason that the goal scorer actually handled the ball (Upper arm) prior to him scoring (A second or so before hand).

The foul on Hutton was not open to interpretation of the rules as he was quite clearly barged off the ball. The linesman was a few yards away and how he awarded it , or advised the referee to award it to Italy is beyond doubt an absolute disgrace.

Yes we failed to qualify, however to come so close and then to have a major and extremely controversial decision given to Italy leaves an extremely bad taste in the mouth.

IMHO the commentators were actually wrong . They claimed "The referee has had a great game". Utter scheitte, 50-50 decisons went to Italy and the awarding of the free kick at the end merely confirms that.

Well this Scotland supporter has no complaints. Had Ferguson`s goal been chalked off we couldn`t really have objected. Yes, the `foul` that lead to the Italy winner was a joke but those kind of decisions happen all the time.

In a group where we were expected to come a distant fourth we managed a close 3rd and with our ranking now improved we should get into the second pot of seeds for the world cup draw, so in theory we shouldn`t end up in such a ridiculously hard group. At least we didn`t get the draw and have to be waiting for the France v Ukraine result. My one real regret is that I think had we actually got there we could have performed well, rather than teh way it usually ends up when we reach the finals.
