MicoMan (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 18th October 2003, 00:22

DVD related as you need something to sit in when you are watching!!

I`m thinking about buying a leather 2 reclining settee from them for £835 and wondered if any one had any and good or bad experiences with them?

Or has anyone seen the same sort of thing on a web site or shop cheaper and better??

10-12 weeks delivery as well!!

Personally, never bought from DFS, their adverts make me avoid them on principle.

However, on a more general note on sofa buying, we bought a sofa from Harvey`s recently and the service was appalling, 6-8 weeks delivery. Finally received it 16 weeks later. Apparently the manufacture was having problems making the sofa`s, yet Harveys were still seeling the same sofa in their showrooms.

Won`t go back there in future either.

Do people actually believe all that s***?

DFS are actually a finance company posing as a furninture seller. Allegedly.

The price you see at DFS is not always what you get. The price gets bumped up with add ons such as Scotchguarding, casters and plastic bits to protect your laminate flooring should you have it.
Beware if you make use of their interest free credit option! They play a little psychological trick on you when it comes to the interest free period itself by asking what period you wish to make your repayments over and starting at six months and slowly moving at six month increments in the hope that you don't last the course until they get to the 48 months offer.
Whilst completing the application form instore, the salesman deliberately tried to deceive me by saying very rapidly under his breath that "payment protection is included" and indeed it was as the git had ticked the box himself and it adds a fair few quid to your monthly payments.
That said, the furniture itself is of good quality, comfortable and durable. Just be a bit wary and watch what you sign!

We wouldn`t buy from them again. We got a three piece suite that is a wreck after three years. Even the fabric has gone through on the arms. The seats have sunk as well. But we have got three teenage boys who are into WWE and they have been jumping all over it every time we`re out. So we don`t know how much of the damage is down to that as regards a claim.

I would have to agree with what Spaniel has said regarding the add-ons but this is made clear upfront anyway.

My problem with the interest-free credit option was that once I had signed the contract then the salesmen got in touch with me 3 weeks later to persistently advise me that he got the pricing wrong (the price was actually higher than what we had signed) and that he would send another contract for me to sign. I got in touch with trading standards and the credit agency (who handle the actual credit) and they informed me that one a contract is signed then it is legally binding and I do not have to sign-up to another contract. I must thank the credit agency as after they had had a chat with him then he informed me that they would honour the signed-price.

As far as the goods are concerned, I`m pleased with them.
