Is see that XP users like myself can upgrade

I doubt any computer bought before Win7 came out could handle it. And if it could, you`d have to turn off all the pretty stuff and still suffer a lot of disk swapping. :/

Unlike the internet in general which seems to have a huge downer on the new UI, I`m open minded. But at the same time I`m in no hurry to upgrade as I find Windows 7 ample for a desktop OS. If I want to play with a funky touch screen UI I`ll just use my iPad or iPhone. :)

Daughter has just gone out to replace her knackered laptop with a new Win 8 model.
Actually went out to do it last night but they were all stripping the shelves to set up the new machines cos I`d forgotten about the launch.
I`ll have a play tomorrow (if she lets me).

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

don`t forget

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_DIS_ShopHP_FPP_Light

£24.99 to dl, or £49.99 for boxed copy up until january

and

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs

for Windows media centre

I`ve been using the customer previews a bit on my laptop, no problems, it`s fast to boot, had no crashes, just works, although I`ve only really used it as a traditional windows desktop for internet. I used "metro" a few times to play a couple of games, worked ok.

Have to say, there`s nothing about this that appeals to me, and that cartoonish, child-like front end is a major step backwards

Hmm that`s a cheap upgrade. Maybe I`ll try one of my PCs with it.

Installed it last night on my laptop with a new 480gb SSD.  Installed from a USB took about 12 mins to install

so far working very well, quite easy to learn the new techniques.

And very fast to boot with the new SSD

hmmm,  £25 to upgrade from XP, so in effect, even if your starting from scratch, you can get a valid xp COA on fleabay for about a fiver, making a fully legit copy of win8 for around £30..

got to admit, that makes it tempting for my laptop,  gonna have to get used to something beyond XP eventually lol :)
