Page 1 of SD Memory card classes?
PCs & Mobiles Forum
hello folks
can someone please clarify what they mean by the classes of SD cards?
e.g. what does it mean by class 10? class 6? etc. is it to do with the speed of the card? and if so what would be faster, a class 6 or 10?
Thanks all
yes, it`s speed, higher number is faster. For example my camera says if filming video to use at least a class 6. For photos it`s probably less important, depending on your camera etc.

If you shoot 6fps upwards then it is equally as important to have a higher class card. For instance aircraft, car sports, motorbike sports, birds & even baby`s, the more frames you can record in a second of something moving quickly, the better the chance of at least one of them being any good.
thanks for the reply folks.
I got a Nikon D90 so wanted to make sure I got the right kind of memory card to do the job.
On a related note, I got a card for my camera which was supposed to be fast enough, but I would get errors every few shots whilst it saved, obviously not good! So avoid cheap brands, stick with something reputable.

I bought a fast Sandisk card from a reputable dealer, it turned out to be a `slow` copy. The retailer sent me another `real` Sandisk card & told me to keep the other one which I use as a third in the queue spare.
Every now and again tech sites do reviews of cards, shows how bad some of them can be, even sometimes by reputable makes like Sandisk :(
I think there may be a lot of counterfeit cards on the market, and even reputable retailers can be taken in by crooked wholesalers.
