Cheap MP3 Player

flyingmonkey (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 20th March 2005, 10:23

Hi

I`d like to get my girlfriend a cheap MP3 player for her to use at the gym. It doesn`t have to be anything fancy but drag and drop file transfer would be handy. I am thinking of going the flash drive route so that it won`t matter if it gets dropped, etc.

Thanks

Nick

Ebuyer 128mb at £22.99 or 256mb at £39.94. Plenty of other variations around the same price range on the site.

Flash players are all much of a muchness nowadays.

Except the MP-Man ones Dixons sell. For the love of god, dont buy one of those. They pack up without warning and getting tech help out of MP-Man is like getting blood out of a stupid, obstinate consumer unfriendly f***head stone.

I haven`t got the MPman - but bought the unbranded version from Ebay and the mode button went on it, these guys fixed it for £12 all in.

Cherers for that. I got the, apparently, infamous `Starting..............` error.

When you turn the player on the software crashes and the player displays the message `Starting..........` and wont do anything else. no button responds and windows no longer recognises it as a removable drive so I cant update the firmware.

After seeing the same problem on the mpmaneurope forums form many people and the total disregard they had for their customers I gave it up for a bad job. Especially as how thier manual is a piece of crap and despite numerous emails, they wouldnt tell me how to enact the warranty.

And now, seemingly thanks to so many unsatisfied customers, they have done away with the forums on their site.

It only cost me 50 quid, so i dont think its really worth getting it fixed, if indeed its possible.

I have just now made it my mission in life to lose this shoddy outfit as many customers as possible, by highlighting how crap their support and products are.

Duly noted :D

I have just bought (literally a few mins ago) a Creative Muvo job for about 80 quid from Amazon. The dirt cheap players on Ebuyer look very tempting but you just know that they are going to be the poorest quality crap that will die on you. At least you`ve got a fighting chance with a branded player (hopefully).
