Hi all - I`ve got my final list of components needed to build my PC...

I`ve been recommended the following sites for buying it all - has anyone got any other suggestions or reasons to avoid any of the following?

Some people have had bad experiences trying to return stuff to ebuyer if they need to, but personally i have used them loads (including returns) with no problems. It is also worth looking at someone like dabs.com who can be cheap for some bits, and often have good offers. I bought some parts from scan for my last project, and they were good - but they have a £10 delivery charge which can make them less of a bargin if you only want a couple of bits.

I buy 95% (ish :D ) of my stuff from Ebuyer - they are nearly always the best for price, and the delivery choices are good. Over the last couple of years I have rather astoundingly spent several grand! Yikes! I`ve only ever had to return one item. It was a bit of a faff, but was dealt with in a week and a replacement sent.

I have also used Aria.co.uk a few times too. A bit pricier, but swift delivery. I had to return an item to them too, and it was less painful than returning stuff to Ebuyer!

I use www.pcindex.co.uk and www.valuelist.co.uk to pricecheck across several sources.

Amazon can be very good for price/delivery/returns but don`t have a complete range.

I avoid ebuyer if I can because I abhor their returns policy - restocking charge, and poor response to enquiries.

I use Scan and Aria, like them both, never had problems.

I can also recommend www.overclockers.co.uk for good support and range of products.

Test any online sales outfit first by phoning their support line or emailing to see how good they might be.

Take screengrabs of any product you buy from a site, the description used to "sell" it to you can help you if you later find a problem.

Keep your receipts & packaging until your done and earth yourself out if it`s your first build.

Finally an outfit called Microland Technology have been around for a while (using variants of name) and gain biz with cheap prices - AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE, the least of your problems is calling them on an 0871 number (10-12p pm of which they get a share) and hanging on for ever. (And if you want one for yourself to give to double glazing give me a shout :) )

i`d be wary of scan as they have an iffy reputation for after sales service (no contrary opinions please unless it relates to actual experience of after sales service). One of the dvd reviewer crowd posted a complaint off in the retailer reviews section recently but they`ve had an iffy reputation for a while.
Not entirely sure about komplett either but have never used them myself

Komplett are very good and hard to beat on price. Used to use Scan but their customer service was the best ... maybe it`s improved now?

I have used overclockers.co.uk and they can be excellent but they are currently having a lot of problems with rapidly increasing orders (even after Christmas), lack of staff and stock systems that don`t indicate accurately whether the goods are in stock. Also they have cut all E-mail communications and the telephone response is poor. It took them 2 weeks to finally ship goods to me that should have been dipatched the following day and I only got them after regular chasing up. Hopefully they will improve back to their previous good form but it may be best to give them a miss for the moment.

Personally I use a search engine like www.kelkoo.co.uk to search for the best prices for PC components. Also Ebay can be cheap although its` definately a case of Buyer Beware with anything from there.

I have built my last 2 PC`s from components mainly from ebuyer. As other people have said it can be a bit of a pain try to get things replaced but the prices are some of the best.

Also prefer to get most parts for a tower from one place so they can say "It could be a part you didn`t get from us that is faulty"
