Page 1 of Help with a Blaster worm virus problem!

Can someone help me please?

My PC was running fine until I got the Blaster Worm Virus on my computer, ever since I got rid of it thanks to Microsofts patch my LG DVD rom drive (LG DRD-8160B) cannot be detected even at the bios startup screen, the computer runs throught its normal setup detecting Ram then my CD-RW drive which is also an LG, then my 2.5GB hard drive which runs Win98, then my main drive which runs WinXP but then searches for my DVD drive but brings up `NONE` then runs normally into my OS selection screen (Win 98 or WinXP), I have checked the Bios settings and they are all as I had them mainly all on Automatic settings
Funny thing is, sometimes when the computer boots into WinXP the drive is found as if I have just installed it for the first time, but if I try to load a DVD or any type of disc in the drive, it freezes and takes ages for windows to catch up and exit the task via Task Manager

has anyone else had this problem?

also when I try and run RCPman for the drive (A region reset program which I have been using successfully for well over a year) the error ``ASPI for Win32 is not initialized`` or ``WNASPI32.dll is missing or not installed``

please can someone help or at least point me in the direction of help or I may have to throw my computer out the window

If your running windows xp try resetting to a point prior to the infection using the nifty reset feature found on the start menu.

Try removing the hardware and rebooting. XP should re-detect it and select the appropriate drivers.

Windows key and pause, hardware, device manager, dvd,cd-rom drive. Select drive, right-click and uninstall.

Also, are you sure you removed the virus? The M$ was an update to `plug the hole`. You need a separate utility to remove the virus. Symantec have a good one.

yep I got the virus removed, no joy
already tried the rollback feature on XP but this does nothing either
there is a problem as well when I try to uninstall the drive, it does not exsist on the device manager because windows is not detecting it, it is like it isnt even physically there

Try physically unhooking the drive and plugging it back it before powering up again. That should "trick" Plug&Pray.

Pop along to the firmware site and see if you can`t find the appropriate ASPI driver for your drive, as that is probably what`s causing most of the problems.

BTW, your drive has new firmware available here Click on "device driver". You will have to re-multiregion.
