Hey Westy,

Been a while and noticed that the Ask Westy hasnt been updated for a while. Anything on the cards or you after ideas?

Possible article could be projectors, large screens and link in the new legal release of PAL and NTSC progressive scan players.

Or I could just stop talking and see what tricks you have up your sleeve?

RE: Saving Private Ryan - DTS - Region 2

Westys comments were basically "that there was little to no difference between certain DD5.1 and DTS tracks. However if you look back, Saving Private Ryan was one of the discs where the DTS was better, but not purely as it was DTS but it had a full bit rate DTS track and if I remember correctly, the actual DTS content was different to that of the DD. Clued in people like Westy can tell the difference between the 2, but most consider it to sound better, probably from the fact they are usually a few decibels louder.

You could find further inof if you wish here :

Hope this helps

RE: Boyz n the Hod

It was due for a region 2 release in the middle of last year but is still yet to show. It is out on region 1 but as you prob know with absolutely nothing on it. I cant imagine there being a great deal on the disc so dont expect a "Special " special edition but a one disc with any extras they could muster together for as little money as possible and place on one disc. Ill have a gander later to see what I can find but as far as I know has no specified release date - -and even when it di have one, it didnt show!!!!!

RE: Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

Haha, dont worry I aint having a go at all - - thought it best to explain properly. But there is always room for a snide comment - -if not I apologise sincerely. Good for a bit of banter every now and again though.

CS

RE: Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

Dont think so deeply into things Kywy, its all bit of a joke.......the original post was a bit tongue in cheek anyway as i stated - - - its not a bargain dvd but quite funny so ill post it anyway...........just happens to be a lot of people used it. As the thread was a bit of a joke I thought it quite funny that I was to be rewarded for it and thought the reviewer team would have bit of a laugh as to what would turn up.

Ive mailed them now anyway so lets see what turns up......

I`ll leave you with your power tools.

CS

RE: Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

CS

RE: Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

Ill get ma coat.

CS

RE: Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

HAHAHAA LOL, you gotta love the gratitude - - - you try and do something nice and look where its gets ya, just kidding.

I notice both Clayts and Westy aint replied - probably battling it out as to who gets the freebies.

Why doesnt someone from the reviewer team just get them sent to wherever your HQ is and have them as a boogie prize.. they could even be a prize for the 42%ers music quizzes.

Arent you even intrigued as to what you could get?Mcfly is already thinking of places to stick them.

Well, Ill leave it with you lot - - - bring somke excitement to your office.

CS

RE: where to get schindlers list anyone?

Pretty sure at the mo there is no set release date for region 2 and is not avaialable anywhere other than dodgy region 0 dvd. Links are not allowed to be posted on the site about the region 0 suppliers as far as I know.Good luck anyhow....

CS

Clayts, Westy, RJS - - - some free toys for the reviewer team!!!

Ive just been offered some free toys as you may well know from the lovely Linda Latex of www.gwenap.net for apparent plugging.

Well as I said in the bargain buckets - - without the buckets forum there would be no plugging so its only fair you hard workers at reviewer get rewarded.

All you gotta do is send a mail to retsambew[at]ten.panewg giving an address and you reviewer boys and girls will have something new to play with. Seems only fair after the help and bargains Ive had from this site over the last months or years............its a little something going back to you lot - -just dont know if it will be that little.

Hope you enjoy it

RE: So who wants a Vibro?Bargain to keep the missus sweet...

Didnt even realise myself there was something there for 40p - - -anyone who just ordered the pencil thingy - -shame on you - - hope it hasnt cost you lovely people at Gwenap too much.

At least now its spend a fiver and get it for free - -still a bargain people, its worth £7.50 so dont gib out on pleasuring the missus spend spend spend by day and reap the benefits by night.

So what type of gifts are we looking at?To be fair its this site that has plugged yours as without the "bargain buckets" no one would know. Perhaps the mods like Westy, Clayts or RJS should be receiving the pleasurable gifts? You boys want some new toys?

CS

RE: Leather computer chair £53 inc shipping!!

Yep they are quite robust - -more so than all other computer chairs Ive had. Couple of L shaped screwed in clamps holding the seat to the back along with 6 one inch screws holding thearms to teh chairs and so on. Definitely feels sturdy.

CS

So who wants a Vibro?Bargain to keep the missus sweet...

Sorry mods if this again isnt quite a dvd bargain but dont think anyone can argue with this -- - its a classic.

Buy anything from http://www.gwenap.net/ and get a free Vibrator is what it states and is as simple as that. So for all others out there who moan that their better half gets slightly pis*ed off at the amount of time and money you spend on these forums - -fear not as your solution is here.

Chase up an older thread on the site and you can even get Free Batteries.....all your problems solved. Just dont get her too many batteries!!!

RE: Leather computer chair £53 inc shipping!!

Nah I think ill let you have 2 -- but no more or there will be a ruckus. No, on a serious note, its a comfy, leather chair with £130 off the marked price so is quite a steal. Just annoying when you cant order anymore cos someone else has decided to order 5, one for him, and 4 for the lovely bidders on ebay.

And to the above, yes the chair does lean back, quite a buit in fact and at first I thought I was falling off - - I felt like a right tit..

Hope you are all as happy with it as I am............now I better leave you all and check how much ive made on them on ebay

RE: Home Cinema question....

£100 is not too little but you need some form of amp to connect the speakers to. There are budget systems out there for circa £100 inc. 5 satellite speakers, and sub which has the amp built in. If you could stretch then a recommended system would be the Sony HTIB 'BABE' System. This is reviewed in the "ask westy" column on this site so you could get most answers there. Is £100 ur limit or just limit for speakers? The sony will give u 5 satellites, a sub which has the amp built in, which can do DTS, DD 5.1 and even has Pro Logic 2 whcih at this price is a bargain.

If you just state roughly what you wanna spend in total then Im sure we can recommend something for you.

CS

RE: Home Cinema question....

Best thing is as Dan B says, tell us exactly what ur budget is and someone will cook some solution up for you.

RE: Home Cinema question....

Hey ac, really you could do with stating a price range. If you have no idea how much you are looking to spend, then look at the "ask westy" column and go a couple of weeks back to the surround packages. He gives a good set up in most price ranges.

Dont know what RS have on offer at the mo but my brother picked up the SONY DAVS500 for around £300 multiregion and I have to saya that I am well impressed by it.

Hope this helps.

RE: do you prefer original or redux?

Cheers Gruntboy - - whilst watching I didnt recall much about the Anti war bit but I was a young un at the time. Have to say it didnt bother me it was there in the directors, quite liked it in fact. Now I know about it, its appealing as this makes it more of a directors cut as this is how Cameron wanted it. I can see why some get bothered by it, but hell its only a film. This reminds of the whole 9/11 and cutting out of respect. Personally I thought leaving scenes in would have paid tribute to those affected by 9/11 as they would have stirred emotions each time they were seen - -yet now they ae cut they cant stir anything.

Think in regards to the above we need to stipulate the difference between extended versions and directors cut. The directors cut is as teh director wanted it to be seen and so when watching such films its worth considering why he wanted scenes put back; whilst extended editions are merely that - -scenes put back in for the sake of it - -these should definitely be an option in regards to watching or not.

Leather computer chair £53 inc shipping!!

Not quite a dvd bargain I know but we are obviously sat somewhere at a computer. But now we can all sit in comfort. Just go to www.viking-direct.co.uk and in the searcg type in Q21-MARINO. This will bring up a leather office style chair reduced from £180 to £45. But with VAT and so on it comes to £53ish. Hadnt posted before as wasnt sure of the quality. However, it is now assembled and im sat in it and have to say its very comfy and has a tall back which is the best part about it for me - -some support at last.

For £180 retail I dont think id buy one but at £53 its a steal if you are after a comfy chair. Think they may only be on offer whilst in stock so please people give everyone a chance.

Any questions just post.

RE: do you prefer original or redux?

Hey Coxy, any idea where I can see what the diff`s were on Abyss? Only stated I didnt know the diffs as I have watched the Special Edition in last few days and theatrical about 8 years ago or something so not that clued up on the main differences.

Cheers

CS

RE: do you prefer original or redux?

Star Wars - dont mind.

Redux - thought the inclusion of the French family section did a lot as the French were quite siginificant in Vietnam and dont recall them being in any other American `Naam` films.

E.T. - - both good - - dont mind the upgrading of picture and so on, imho just makes for more pleasurable viewing.

Star Trek - aint watched yet

T2 - did enjoy the extra bits with taking chip out of head and so on and the inclusion of visions of Kyle Rees - -quite a siginificant link back to the first film and whole paradox of the guy he sent back is his father and so on.

Aliens extended edition purely for the wicked scene with the motion sensor machone guns.

Abyss - -what were the differences?

Bladerunner - -ot seen both versions

Leon - see above

Robocop - uncut killing of the first office guy by ED209 was way over the top but very much Verehoven and so a must keep.

To add to the above LOTR-Fellowship extended edition was again a more full and enjoyable viewing.
