jack jumpin (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 7th November 2000, 23:11

Hi

I was considering buying one of these plays but have seen alot about these players onthe news groups having problems with the player
with lip sync problems and also having problems with Scan when trying to get a new player.

Are these player really that bad or are they pretty good ?
If you have one what features do they have Region free wise do
they play RCE discs ? do they play cdrs ? Can Macrovison be disabled ?

Cheers for the replies...

Jack

So how come they got a batch of good reviews? Were all the mags lying? What problems did you have exactly? What have you got and has that been rubbished too?! Has anyone else any experience of the Scan 2000. Is Scan (the company) tinpot or pukka??

I`ve just got my scan player, from the latest batch, and I`m delighted. I had one of the older ones and it was not too bad but you could not enable the rgb output so the best picture was through composite.Apart from that I`ve had no problems at all.Using rgb shows a marked improvement in picture quality which is now excellent for what is still a budget player.Considering the spec; MP3,DTS output, CD-R replay and true multi region I think it ain`t bad.

ps Never had any lip sync problems.
macro can`t be disabled on mine.

Looks like put up or shut up time.It seems to me that Nelley(if that`s correct spelling),has the decency to monitor this board and try to deal with problems and I don`t see many others making the effort. If I get a reply from the man at Scan to my recent e-mail and I`m happy with it,I shall go with them.

It just ain`t appreciated when people flame others or,in this case, the hardware for, apparently,no good reason.

I have every good reason to flame SCAN - they sold me a player whose hardware was faulty from the day I walked out of their showroom, when I entered into an e-mail dialogue to fix this problem they did not say it would be impossible for them to send a replacement machine to Sweden, even though I explicitly pointed out where I lived and the circumstances under which I bought the machine. It was only after being without the player for 6 weeks that I found out I would not be sent a replacement, rather be offered a refund. And every contact with SCAN had to be initiated by myself, both telephone and email.

Basically their customer service sucks big time and they sold a dodgy player in the past. I based my purchase on the reviews read, but the player I bought just didn`t perform, so the complaints are perfectly valid.

Buy a SCAN if you want, it`s a free world, but I know I will have no more dealings with this company ever again.

Sorry about the problems regarding our customer services but we trying
to improve it all the time.Regarding your machine we probably couild not
ship to sweden because of the high cost.If it was a faulty player in the uk
we wouild have done a drop and pick on it.

RE: Scan DVD Player Any Good ?? What about Daewoo?

OK. lets try another tack, Argos sell a Daewoo DQD200 for £180, it looks like it is the same machine under a different badge and silver case, has anyone experience of this machine?
I too am drawn to Scan by reviews, but is there a catch?
Richard
