RE: Scan!!
markq
My point is that very few badges represent who manufactures the player.Proline,Matsui and many more aren`t electronic companies, they are just brand names. The Wharfdale brand name was bought by a company that outsources it`s machines and brands them with the Wharfdale name.Half the cameras and camcorders you see are made by companies other than the badge name, including Panasonic,Canon and Mitsubishi goods. The idea that you think there is something odd about a company badging a bought in product is naive.
RE: Scan!!
I think you`ll find Tesco don`t make Wharfdales and Argos don`t manufacture all the players that they sell either.
RE: Scan!!
Sorry not to let this go but you are not been fair.
What Video`s review this month is of the Scan dvd player plus the Scan AV-6,an all in one Dolby Digital, dts 5.1 channel processor, amplifier with 5 speakers and subwoofer. The whole package with dvd player is sold by Scan for about £400.So the review comment "For the serious audio/videophile it is undeniably lacking" has to be taken in that context.
Personally my DD amplifier cost more than that on its own and mine is only mid range. The serious audio/videophile would expect to have to pay much more to satisfy his higher expectations. If anyone read the whole review it is not poor.In fact the reviews for this machine have been consistantly good. The one fly in the ointment has been the poor CS.But this is a different issue and should not be confused with the quality of the player.
RE: Scan!!
Lots of people will be looking to buy this machine and why not.
What video didn`t give it a poor review at all.Just shows your bias to suggest it did. They were suitably impressed at a machine that was well up to the mark for the money.
See than this machine still gets people hot under the collar.
RE: NiVZ you got new firmware for scan-2.13/2.14??
Maybe I jumped in a bit too quick using 214, I was under the impression the firmwares on the hdubois site were the `official` ones(as they probably are).Anyway it works fine for me.The picture quality has improved. Its not huge but its noticeable. It may be no more than returning the picture to its original quality as like you I think the last couple of firmwares have taken the edge off it.
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
The STR-DE445 has dts according to every retailer that sells it.See my answer on the other forum if you still need the info.
BALL_ACHE are you just being mischievious?
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
On R1 U-571 the option to change to the DTS sound track is in the menu under languages.
scan 214 firmware ,my machine is still alive
Original 164
went to 180 & 204 and had problems;dts soundtracks would break up,rgb was not so good, delay with remote commands.
Just installed the new firmware and everything seems ok.Previous problems have gone.Picture in rgb is better.Don`t know about macro.I`m beginning to think that this is too much of a lottery for me and now if everything is ok I`m going to leave well alone.
Optimum picture on scan
I have a scan.
On the `hidden menu` there is a setting where you can choose between non flicker and hi rez.Can someone explain what this is.The default is non flicker yet setting it to hi rez(which is where I`ve set mine)gives a noticable improvement in picture quality.Bear in mind that this menu shouldn`t strictly be accessible by the end user.
RE: A thought on the opinions on DVD players in this forum
Well, what to make of a post telling us not to trust any posts.
RE: BEWARE SCAN UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are these artifacts. I`ve watched 25plus films on my scan and I`ve not noticed any.Can you name a few films where they are noticable.
RE: Are you satisfied with your Scan SC-2000 player ?
You people don`t let go do you. There isn`t a sub £200 machine that hasn`t had problems with either certain discs or with variable quality control.A big percentage of posts complaining about the scan are in fact complaining about the customer service or lack of it. Fine, there are undoubtable problems with their customer service in some respects, although how many companies would exchange units so readily I`m not sure. The machine itself is close to the best you can get for £200 in terms of basic picture and sound let alone the fact of its long feature list.I`m not suprised that they seem to be able to sell as many as they can get.The idea that all these people are fools is ridiculous.I`ve read 8 reviews, 7 very positive,1 negative. What do you think that is, a conspiracy. As for the amount of negative posts here relating to the scan, half the time it`s the same old people.
Finally, has it never occurred to some of you that because scan are an internet company and virtually all the machines have been purchased on line by people with internet access this in itself means that it`s going to be the subject of more comment on forums like these.
ps yes I am satisfied with my scan.
RE: Scan DVD Player Any Good ??
As above, from the couple of CDs I`ve tried with continuous music there is no pause at the index points. Also MP3 playback is a lot better than I expected. Why would there be index points on a MP3 CD apart from between tracks where a pause would be correct? If you clarify I`ll try it out for you
RE: Scan DVD Player Any Good ??
I`ve just got my scan player, from the latest batch, and I`m delighted. I had one of the older ones and it was not too bad but you could not enable the rgb output so the best picture was through composite.Apart from that I`ve had no problems at all.Using rgb shows a marked improvement in picture quality which is now excellent for what is still a budget player.Considering the spec; MP3,DTS output, CD-R replay and true multi region I think it ain`t bad.
ps Never had any lip sync problems.
macro can`t be disabled on mine.
