Divx dvd player recommendations?

1mills (Elite) posted this on Monday, 14th July 2008, 21:38

Basically looking for a cheap divx player that has USB input.

I got one from Aldi a few years back which did me fine until my mate borrowed it and then it no longer worked (I`d lost the reciept for the warranty :¦ ).

Aldi/Lidl haven`t had a divx player since last year now either, when they used to have them all the time.

I`ve got my Xbox 360 for the times when I`m in Liverpool, but as I stay at my mums a few nights a week I could do with one that I could just plug my external hard drive into, rather than burning dvds all the time.

I`ve been searching myself but there are loads that don`t have USB input for some reason.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Looking at this one at the moment.

Here

Seems okay for the price, compared to what I`ve seen elsewhere.

I too am looking for one, preferably from a supermarket so can pick it up later today.

As above am after one with Divx playback, no need for the usb port but must be multi regionable.

Only a cheap one.

All the best

Gerald.

I did see a phillips dvd recorder in woolworths at the weekend that plays divx as well and im sure it was £39 or £49... If I hadn`t already had a dvd recorder with a build in hard disk I would have bought it.

That`s the one that I linked to originally (appears my link is now dead) and actually bought.

Please note that it does not play files off an external hard drive even thought it was USB input and it is shipped with an EU plug so you also need to buy and adapter. >:(

They said that I could return it, but once you take into account the £7odd delivery charges it wasn`t worth it as it technically wouldn`t be a "bad" player for £20 (I paid a bit less than they have it for there).

Bugger. Was going to get it as well. If you watch the video he says it does support an external HDD. >:(

How cheap ?

The Philips DVP5980 is £70 in Richer Sounds - upscaling DVD player, plays DivX (and most other things other than Xvid), has a USB port and will play files from an external hard drive (as long as it`s formatted in FAT32) and is multi-region out of the box (from Richer Sounds, easily hackable from anywhere else)

The Toshiba one on Pi*m**ia is excellent www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/885711/art/toshiba/sd-481-dvd-divx-player.html

Seems to have all you want apart from them not being a supermarket Only £53 including postage. Although the plugs are for Europe they usually send you an adaptor. Or at least they have with everything i`ve purchased including that dvd player and a couple of Archos media players.

Never tried using an external hard drive through the usb port although it does work on these Archos things. Might give it a go tonight with an old 60gb I have lying around. Wondering if the formatting of the drive may determine whether or not it can read them. Probably needs to be FAT32. Edit - I should have read your post properly GaryO.
