Page 1 of scart/coaxial to 5.1 adapter?
Hardware Forum
Just bought a cheap and cheerful 5.1 theatre system after the last one Died. Unfortunately, it`s not as compatible with my dvd player as I`d like.
DVD player is a cheapy Grundig with scart, coaxial, and L/R stereo outputs. The theatre system is an Acoustic Solutions AS 133 with more input points than I`m used to.
Top: FL C SL
BTM: FR SW SR
I`m assuming the theater system is basically looking for 6 separate input feeds for each channel. Is there anything available that will `split` the feed from a coaxial or scart source to satisfy my cable-hungry speakers?

It looks to me like, although the surround system has more inputs than you`d like, they`re pretty pointless.. :(
It needs a DVD player with separate outputs for each channel (my old Yelo player had them many years ago but very rarely see them now..)
There`s certainly nothing scart related that would do the job - it`s not digital and doesn`t support 6 channels.
Not heard of a cable that can do what you`re looking for either. :(
Sounds geared to older players or PC sound cards.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Just as I feared. I shall struggle with the 2.1 output for the time being...
Weird really, as the system seems pretty new...

RE: scart/coaxial to 5.1 adapter?
This may do the biz:
Linkadeedoodah
Cheaper here:
Linkadeedoodahagain
Looks like it may have outputs for the speakers you require.
My old Wharfedale (which is still going!) does it as does one made by Mirror I had for a while.

Certainly looks the part. Shame it`s not multi-region

RE: scart/coaxial to 5.1 adapter?
There are 2 ways to get 5.1 sound and I would very surprised if the first is not your option:
1st: attach the digital coaxial or optical digital output from the DVD deck to a digital coaxial or optical input on your home theatre system assuming it has one, which it should if it calls itself a home theatre system! These input/outputs must be the same type on both devices I`m afraid or you are out of luck. This pipes the 5.1 - or whatever you select from the disc options - bitstream signal which is then decoded and spilt up into the 5.1 channels which you output as separate speaker outs. Check to see if your home theatre device has logos on it such as Dolby Digital or dts which imply decoding is onboard.
2nd: if your DVD deck can decode the 5.1 channels it can send the 5.1. analogue signals separately to your home theater device for amplification (then to the speakers). If so the DVD player will then have the 5.1 phono sockets on its rear and all must be linked to similar phono inputs on the home theatre device. This seems very unlikely from what you have described.
If you only have the exact inputs and outputs you describe, stereo is your only choice. Have a good look for digital inputs on the Acoustic Solutions; sometimes they are elsewhere on the rear of the device.
P.S. I have just found the manual for your Acoustic solutions and I`m afraid it is only an amplifying unit with no decoding of its own. So you are out of luck. Sorry!
Good luck!

RE: scart/coaxial to 5.1 adapter?
From what the OP has said, the problem is this.
His DVD player only outputs 5.1 via digital co-ax (undecoded)
His new surround sound system doesn`t decode the signal and therefore needs it to be decoded prior to input.
This is a common problem that people have, as they don`t know what to look for when buying system.
5.1 systems that only require 6 seperate analogue inputs are far cheaper than those that take the digital co-ax and optical inputs and then decode it.
The ones with built ind ecoders will state in their spec that they offer DD5.1, DTS, Dolby Pro-Logic II. The ones without a decoder will simply say 5.1 system. They won`t go into details about what sort of audio, as it is already decoded when it reaches them.
I hope that makes sense. I didn`t click on the links alrady offered, but I assume they are showing you some cheap DVD players that have decoders built in and the 6 analogue outputs for you to connect to your surround sound system.
This is your only option other than investing in a decoder/amp, which would be more expensive.
RE: scart/coaxial to 5.1 adapter?
thanks for all the advice, but I`m aware of all these facts anyway.
