Page 1 of Home Cinema On a Budget??
Hardware Forum
I recently purcahsed my 1st LCD (42" viewpia) plus a HDMI DVD player.
My home cinema is somewhat dated though (Yamaha VS10) it only has optical inputs x2 but no Coaxial input which i need to connect the DVD player. Any suggestions??
What is your budget? I have a nice Denon setup that was only £240

Who was it here that built their own screen, had a ceiling retractable projector & the screen was hidden behind a "roman" blind.
Must be going back about 4 years now, never have found the thread again. :(

It was Richard H. I would bet Paulls eyes on it.

I have been looking for a suitable "affordable" home cinema setup for a while, and found the Logitech 5400 recently (there is also the Logitech 5450 & 5500)
www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/94478 . It has 2 optical inputs, 1 coaxial, and 3 stereo inputs (or 6 channel inputs - you choose). There are only a few left at eBuyer, as this is a discontinued model, hence the price. I normally avoid eBuyer, as their customer service has been pretty poor in the past, but this order went very smoothly. Delivered within 5 days with the free delivery option.
The 5450 is the same system, but with wireless rear speakers (good price on Pixmania). The 5500 is the more recent version (and more expensive).
The systems are THX certified, and are over 300 watts (more than enough for a normal sized room in my opinion). Include Dolby Pro Logic II decoder built in, so turns any stereo source into pseudo surround-sound (great for watching TV or listening to music).
The sub is the biggest I`ve seen for a cinema setup in this price-range.
Amazing system for the price. Hope this helps!

RE: Home Cinema On a Budget??
That`s uncanny - I was about to suggest the Logitech Z-5500 and start looking for prices.
I have heard the 5500 and it is stunning. Amazing value for money. So any of the above-mentioned Logitech systems will do the same job.
On a budget, you`ll go a long way to beat it for sound quality and sheer wall-shaking oomph!
not knowing your budget, an optical - co-ax converter could be the cheapest............. ;)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

The systems are THX certified Unfortunately, since lucasfilm sold THX they hand out certification like a paedo hands out sweets at a park. Not worth much now. Not that I am calling the system, as i have never heard it.
