I know this gets posted up all the time, but I`ve had a look through the old posts and none of them seem to give me a definitive answer to my problem. So sorry for going over this again, but...
I`ve currently got a Wharfdale 750, which is around 7 years old now and it`s starting to play up, the drive is getting noisy and it`s not playing some of my disks. So was thinking of buying a new player.
Eventually I want to invest in a full system, but for the moment was just thinking of getting a cheep player to pass me over.
So was looking for some advice on which player provides top quality picture and sound for under £100.
Cheers people...
The Toshiba SD330E is consistently rated very highly. It`s available at Amazon for a penny under £70 - here.
Old chestnut, but the £40 jobbie from argos (aiwa, i think) is a hell of a steal, and it`s region and macro free out of the box

I ate what?

the cello from sainsbury`s £25 play`s everything with no probs (as yet) dunno about macro tho.
AH, LONE STAR. I SEE YOUR SCHWARTZ IS AS BIG AS MINE. ;)

Cheers for that people.
The Toshiba SD330 looks good. Richer Sounds are selling it for £56.95, plus I`ve got a Toshiba TV so a bit of consistency never went a miss.
But then there is the Sharp DVL520H for £49.95 and the Pioneer DV360 for £65.95.
Anybody know what these are like?

The Pioneer DV360 is superb.
Had one of those, and a couple of the related models 444/454.
The Toshiba 330 has had mentions on here for producing a dull/dark picture.
Can`t comment on reliability of the 330,but it`s preceding model the 220,was an unreliable beggar of a thing.
I remember threads from 2 years ago stating quite a few were going `pop`,as did mine.
I`ve avoided Toshiba since.
No other make has let me down.
I was about to buy the Toshiba from Richer Sounds, and copared it to the Mitsubishi Black Diamond for the same price (£ 60.) The only feature the Toshiba didn`t have was NTSC/Pal conversion, which could be an issue if your TV isn`t NTSC compatible.
I opted for the Mitsubishi and, fingers crossed, it has been very good so far. Multi-region out of the box and has played everything I`ve thrown at it.
Don`t know about Macrovision on this one, sorry!.
Cheers

Oh I hate buying new kit...too many ifs and buts
Cheers for your help, but still not sure which one to get. :)
I was in a very similar position to you a couple of months ago, when I went as far as to actually get the Toshiba SD-330.

Yeah I read that yesterday, very interesting.
I`ve gone for the Toshiba in the end, if I have trouble with it you can say you told me so. With any product you get a few people who have a problem with it, in this case there seem to be more good reviews than bad.
